Re: "It's 2012! Ignorance is inexcusable!"

Completely off-topic: When I read the subject my first thought was, "Whatever! It's 2009!"

I've been watching too much Adventure Time...

I thought it was an intresting article and it made a good point...except...
You can't teach people who don't want to learn...
And believe me a LOT of those people DON'T want to.
I feel the same way that ignorance is inexcusable; but try telling the rest of the country that... in fact it's almost the oppisite: Intelligence is inexcusable!
How else can you explain why tripe like Jersey Shore is such a smash hit?
      Rotten, rotten, rotten...
      Anyway you look at it...
      I am a rotten girl...

Re: "It's 2012! Ignorance is inexcusable!"

I'm glad I read this article. It reminded me of when my family got internet access back in '96. I didn't actually do anything but browse, as I was only 8 or so at the time, and I knew better than to jump onto a message board and ramble. Still, having the internet really did change my world. I could explorer whatever topic I wished, or I could read webpages written by people with the same interest as myself.

It's ironic that I read this now, as I have been ranting about certain things that it brought up. For one thing, I don't really think that a large amount of people really appreciate what they have. What got me to thinking about this was a cell phone advertisement from a few months ago. The ad was showing a loading image on a smart phone, saying something along the lines that it was horrible to have to wait for it to load, etc. To me, as someone who grew up on a 25K modem and waited minutes for pictures to load (and then not finish due to some moron making a phone call), and remembers a time when cell phones were simply portable phones, it just seems a little ridiculous for a lot of smartphone junkies to whine that they have to wait a few seconds to check their Facebooger status for the 1000th time in an hour.

The second thing I was getting at was that I overheard a conversation, where one person was wondering about the meaning of a phrase, yet had a laptop within 2 ft. that could have been used to look for the answer to the question. It drove me nuts. I couldn't understand why it is so hard to just type in a few simple words on any search engine and you would have your answer. People are just far to lazy to actually seek out the information they are looking for.

I actually don't quite have much of a point for this post outside of my reaction to the article, but hey, everyone needs to unleash their "when I was your age, we walked 100 miles to school in the snow uphill" side at some point.
