    The Xtra week does make the whole thing sound like a joke. (Plus the need to reference the Gregorian calender.) If it wasn't.
    I think the leap week was quite serious, probably borrowing from other attempted calendar reforms that worked that way. The French Revolutionaries tried it in 1792, where their new calendar had 12 months of 30 days exactly (thus 360 days) and then a 5 day period tacked on at the end that was supposed to be a special holiday week. I guess they'd put on a 6th day when needed to correct for the extra time needed to complete a full solar orbit. We know how well the French took to this new calendar when Napoleon came to power and decided that everyone had had enough of it.
