I was wondering why Sentai didn't announce it right around the time it came out, and while financial troubles might have something to do with that seeing that they are the only licensor still taking on simulcasts that isn't backed by or partnered with a megacorporation, it looks like Eleven Arts swooped in and were just waiting for the green light to announce it. Chances are, it's going to get a dub by NYAV Post rather than Sentai, which would be a bummer for consistency.

Didn't they get the original cast for the Laughing Under the Clouds movies?

Man, Eleven Arts really love licensing movies associated with series that other companies have. Some of these situations make more sense than others, but I really wonder how some of them happen. It's especially bizarre timing considering Sentai just went back to dub the series despite its massive cast. Given the precedent from Laughing Under the Clouds, I'd hope that they'd try to have it dubbed in Houston (or with Houston actors remotely, as circumstances have demanded), but they were inconsistent with themselves for the Eupho movies going to different studios (with the latter choosing not to bring back some of the former's casting choices within their own talent pool), so who knows?

Well, that's disappointment. Was hoping to stream the movie on HiDive whenever it comes out but guess not. And possible chance of not getting proper masters for home video release.

Movie: lots of fun, some draggy moments, but a big warm hug.
Subs: Not sure the translator understands production… or humor. Got the job done but that’s all I can say.
Video: I see Fathom Events is still 1080i MPEG-2. Looks like an upscaled DVD. Not paying $17 for that again.

I’ve heard recent Fathom stuff switched to sending DCPs (theatrical file format), but maybe they use the old 1080i satellite system as a backup and didn’t get the Shirobako DCPs out in time. All I can figure. Fathom logo at the end was as bad as the movie, so master was prob OK

Hopefully the Blu release is better.

My screening started late so I wondered if some things were the result of projector problems or the projector not being in focus, but my experience was similar. The subs looked like they were hardsubbed and they had plenty of ringing, same goes for Sentai's Shirobako TV series trailer. Many backgrounds also had aliasing/stairstepping lines. After the credits, you got the static Fathom Events ad screen with music indicating it was played via DVR. Some Fathom Events are played via the DVR, others are played via hard drive (there'd be nothing after the credits and lights turn on if it was via that). Source: I'm a former movie theater employee.

I've seen other Fathom Events via DVR and none were like this, so I wonder what happened here.

Sad that my screening was canceled due to an electrical outage that happened in the entire theatre. When the movie first started, it seemed like nothing was happening since the room lights were on and screen was blank. 15 minutes later, the power goes off. The small group of people who came to the showing waited for a good hour and the theatre decided that it couldn't operate for the day. I have to go back for a ticket refund because I bought on Fandango and the electric was out. Glad to hear that there was some problem about quality and that a blu-ray release is planned. I'll just wait for that.

It's a good thing I couldn't make it to the screening as I had other things going on as I would have been sorely disappointed with the subpar quality of the screening. If I'm going to pay $17 to see this, I would rather throw it down on the BD rather than to get a theater experience that isn't the best experience. I got my money's worth seeing the Demon Slayer movie in IMAX, but there's no reason whatsoever to get something that's worse than watching it on BD.
