Doesn’t seem like it as they have a separate replacement program for the ultimate edition.
Disc 5 contains a bonus feature “THE END OF EVANGELION – Deleted Live Action Scene” that does not have English language subtitles. If you are an Ultimate Edition customer and would like a replacement disc with subtitles, please request a free disc by filling out the following information.  Fulfillment for these discs will start February […]

          • Unfortunate that they weren't able to replace the defective disc before sending out the Ultimate Editions.

Finally got my copy today. Interestingly, my friend who lives two minutes away got his three days ago via FedEx, while I got mine today via USPS. The only thing I can think of is that his address is a house and mine is a unit of a condo complex. Weird.

I'm happy with the release; my only nitpick is that the stack of art cards is just sitting there outside of the box and there's no real empty space within the box to store them. I ended up just putting them on top of all the contents for now because I don't think it'll hurt it too much, but it might be a pain each time I open it.

Any thoughts on whether to go with Official or Classic subs? I'll probably watch an episode of each tonight to see if anything stands out to me, but I'd love to see any good analysis. If I still feel undecided, I might just default to Classic since I'm not aware of any glaring issues with that like the (relatively minor) ones with Official.

            • How long did it take for you guys to get your replacement discs? I actually ended up getting my BD set today from TRS and I put in my request for the replacement almost 2 weeks ago.

Filled out the form the day before Christmas Eve and got it on the day before New Year's Eve so it took a week and was before their botching with the CE deliveries.

Finale to the Historic “NEON GENESIS EVANGELION” Property to be Released in Theaters in Late 2022

                        Followed by Home Entertainment Release

GKIDS, the acclaimed producer and distributor of animation for adult and family audiences, announced it has acquired North American theatrical, home video, and EST rights to the capstone finale film EVANGELION:3.0+1.01 THRICE UPON A TIME. The highly anticipated fourth and final installment of the new theatrical “Rebuild” editions of the EVANGELION franchise, EVANGELION:3.0+1.01 THRICE UPON A TIME was released in Japanese theaters in 2021, where it was a critical and box office success, becoming the highest-grossing film of the year with ¥10.28 billion (~$85 million) in local box office. GKIDS plans to release the anticipated film in theaters in late 2022, marking the first time EVANGELION:3.0+1.01 THRICE UPON A TIME will be available in theaters in North America since its domestic release. A release on home entertainment platforms will follow, with dates to be announced.

Created by Hideaki Anno, the NEON GENESIS EVANGELION franchise is considered one of the most influential animated sagas of all time. Since the 1995 premiere of the original television series, the story of teenager Shinji Ikari has remained one of the most iconic titles in animation history, and a global pop culture phenomenon.

Following the conclusion of the beloved 1995 television show, the legendary project received new life as the EVANGELION movie series. The theatrical film series began with EVANGELION:1.11 YOU ARE (NOT) ALONE (2007), followed by EVANGELION:2.22 YOU CAN (NOT) ADVANCE (2009), EVANGELION:3.33 YOU CAN (NOT) REDO (2012), and culminating in the finale EVANGELION:3.0+1.01 THRICE UPON A TIME.

Last year, GKIDS released the original twenty-six episode television series, NEON GENESIS EVANGELION, as well as the films EVANGELION:DEATH (TRUE)2 and THE END OF EVANGELION on Blu-ray and digital download-to-own for the first time in North America. GKIDS also handles North American distribution for creator Hideaki Anno’s prior series, NADIA: The Secret of Blue Water.

“GKIDS is honored to represent the epic conclusion of a story over 25 years in the making,” said GKIDS President David Jesteadt. “Like with so many others, EVANGELION was critical in expanding my idea of what animation could be, and I look forward to joining other fans in theaters to celebrate the end of the saga with EVANGELION:3.0+1.01 THRICE UPON A TIME.”

                        Synopsis

From legendary director Hideaki Anno, EVANGELION:3.0+1.01 THRICE UPON A TIME is the fourth and final installment of the REBUILD OF EVANGELION films, bringing an epic conclusion to the story of Shinji and his fellow Eva pilots, with the stunning visuals and thought-provoking storytelling that has made EVANGELION a global pop culture phenomenon

                        • And the messy licensing situation concludes with GKIDS getting the last of the Rebuild movies, with it coming out nine years after the third one was released. To keep things consistent I'm hoping that they can get the other movies after Funimation's license on them expired, but we shall see about that.

                          • Wonder if they’ll get home video rights for the other three. Would love a set of all four Rebuild movies.

                            • I definitely expected GKIDS to get this one. Now to see how long before they can hopefully get the earlier ones, not only to get them all in print at the same time and hopefully release a box set but also have discs with consistent dubs and subtitle tracks.

                              • Another question is who will work on the disc, Justin's involvement with the original series & films was due to Anime Limited but there's no news on a UK license for this yet is there?
