Not pleased with this news considering what happened the last time they had anything to do with Higurashi.

Unlike the other Higurashi: When They Cry properties, this is a Kadokawa title. I'm not surprised by this acquisition at all.

Usually, reboots will have a different production committee, and while I thought it was going to be Sentai who picks it up, they have been dealing with financial troubles as indicated by their dwindling catalog of new simulcast acquisitions and their focus more on BD releases and postsimulcast stuff. Anyway, I'm expecting to see Funimation simuldubbing this with a completely new cast list seeing that the Bang Zoom dub of the first season was done on a shoestring budget that started just before Geneon USA went out of business, and it didn't turn out to their usual standards as a result.

The only thing better than anime is sports. Get hit hard and you got JACKED UP! Or else it's a C'mon Man!

It will 100% be a brand new cast. I don't think anyone has any sort of attachment to the Bang Zoom cast. Even I watched the original series subbed because I knew the dub was incomplete. I'm surprised FUNi licensed this at all, especially since Sentai rescued the original anime.

              I do.
And I know several of those actors really enjoyed working on the show.

Sometimes it's all about who the publisher is. Most of the Kadokawa titles from the fall season are going to Funimation. This would be one of them.

Look, y’all, when you heard that the Higurashi: When They Cry – NEW anime series was announced, you knew something was afoot. We’ll get to that in a second.

First up, we’re unbelievably excited to share a special commissioned key visual for the series, as part of a direct collaboration between Funimation and KADOKAWA to make this happen!

This is the first time the visual is being revealed to the public worldwide, so let us know what you think!

                          https://www.funimation.com/blog/wp-c...Key-Visual.jpg

Fans of the original series and games might recognize the disturbed expressions of the characters in the glass shards, but probably the biggest surprise of this key visual is the presence of two Rikas—a younger-looking one from the original series and what we’ve seen in the new anime, but also an older-looking one in what appears to be a high school uniform.

What does this mean for the new series?

Oh, and surprise. Remember when it was revealed that the title of this series was Higurashi: When They Cry – NEW? Well, that’s not entirely true. The series is actually called Higurashi: When They Cry – GOU, a new title that the creators intentionally did not reveal to the world until Episode 2.

Gou, or 業, is a Japanese kanji that has multiple meanings and usages, but can be used to mean karma, or the fate resulting from one’s actions in past lives, based on Buddhist concepts.

Confused? Curious about the mystery? There’s more to be revealed, but you’ll just have to stay tuned. Until then, be sure to stay caught up on Higurashi: When They Cry – GOU. You won’t want to miss this.
