It's nice to see this come back in some form. I have the three VIZ sets so I'm good there. Should this get a physical release again, hopefully they correct the issues with VIZ's subtitles (spelling errors and whatnot). Then there's the whole given name vs family name in the subs. I know that was a big issue for some back when this first released. It was a little jarring hearing the characters say one thing and reading something else, but ultimately it didn't hurt my enjoyment of the show.

If it gets a physical release, here's hoping it's a different master than what's on Crunchyroll.

Very bizarre that the version listed as being from Discotek on Crunchyroll is such a direct DVD rip that it even has Viz's logo. Hopefully we'll actually hear something about this instead of just a silent streaming addition.

If it's using Viz' subtitles then i'll pass. They used awful dubtitles.

Honey and Clover coming to Home Video!

            - Complete Series, Honey and Clover I and II, in two sets
            - Includes the English dub and the Japanese version with subtitles
            - Not simply the VIZ version - we have received the original video masters from the licensors and are redoing all of the subtitles - so no burned-in subs, etc.
            - We are still evaluating the masters to determine if this release will be SD-BD or upconverted Blu-ray - more details TBD!

Nice to see they have home video too. Since they're redoing the subs, I may just double dip after all.

Awesome news. I have the Viz DVDs for the first season, but not the second, so with Discotek releasing the full series and sounding like they'll be improving upon Viz's releases in at least some ways, I'll happily pick up both of their sets. Definitely my most anticipated Discotek release in years.

Here is the JP BD-Box trailer https://youtu.be/L5lIo8D-UHs (via Asmik Ace). For the curiosu, it's a FORS upscale (Q-Tec).

                    ***

I'm curious who the publisher really is for this title. We're probably looking at Asmik Ace, Dentsu, GENCO, Shueisha, or maybe someone else. Asmik Ace and GENCO are more active nowadays (and primarily on newer titles). Dentsu is harder to figure out (and this I don't believe was ever listed on their US site). If this is from Shueisha/ShoPro, this will open up some very interesting possibilities...

Definitely great that they are redoing all the subs seeing that the standards for subs back in the day was much lower than it is today. While Viz was pretty bad at releasing stuff back then, I never realized that their subs were so off the mark, but it was based on something in an era gone by.

The big problem is that they used the character's first names when you could clearly hear the last name per Japanese practice. It is jarring to follow along. Hagu-chan was about the only exception to that.

THAT is my biggest pet peeve. If you can clearly hear a last name, that should be reflected in the subtitled version. [It can be a very important plot point later on!! *Looks at NISA's Cardcaptor Sakura release.*) I'll be getting rid of my Viz releases as soon as Discotek's version comes out.

They were cutting a lot of corners. No song subtitles for Inuyasha and Saikano. Heck, they didn't even use the proper title for Saikano (She the Ultimate Weapon).
