    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

    SENTAI FILMWORKS ANNOUNCES
    LICENSE OF ICE

HOUSTON, August 15, 2011— Sentai Filmworks recent run of new anime series acquisitions got even hotter today when the company announced the licensing of the all-female, future epic ICE. Directed by Makoto Kobayashi (Dragon’s Heaven) and with character designs by Masaya Onishi (Ghost Stories,) ICE is ultimately the creation of Renaissance man Yasushi Akimoto, whose varied and prolific career as writer, TV producer and professor includes the creation of the Japanese Idol super-groups AK48 and Onyanko Club. With that background, it’s no surprise that many members of the huge girl group AK48 ended up contributing their voices to the apocalyptic tale in which all humans bearing a Y chromosome have been wiped from the face of the Earth.

Some strange virus, whether planned or accidental, has wiped out most of the population. The survivors? Beautiful women. Faced with the possible extinction of their entire race, some of these new Amazons have decided to live out their final days in the pursuit only of fleshly pleasures. Others choose to use their beauty, their might, and their minds to fight back and reclaim the planet once more. Revenge may be a dish best served cold, but anime has never been hotter than ICE!

ICE will be available this November through many digital distributors as well as on bilingual DVD.

    About Sentai Filmworks:

Digital product offerings may be found at iTunes, Hulu, Netflix, Amazon, Zune Marketplace, Anime Network, Playstation Network and YouTube.

I have zero clue about what this is. Here is the the ANN entry: LINK. A yuri themed OVA? I guess for now this will be a maybe.

I wonder if that has anything to do with why it was screened at a small film festival thing in L.A. a week ago.

        It sounds absolutely, soul-rippingly terrible.

So... when can I preorder, Sentai...?

I would say that November solicitation shouldn't be too far off. We are due for one soon.

The name sounds familiar, but I never saw it. I'll put it down as a "maybe", but it's a really low maybe.

I read a couple of review recommendations on MAL and they weren't too positive. One person wrote that ICE is "confusing and messy" and might leave you "with a unfunny headache." Another said that it has yuri but no real yuri plot to it. That being said I'll probably check out the first episode on TAN (hopefully) but with a very low priority and even lower expectations.

Wow, is it really that bad?

And I'm a little surprised that it's getting an English dub, too.

I saw this a few years back and didn't think it would get licensed. I saw some potential in the premise but ultimately it was a mess. I'll be avoiding this one.

I never heard of this anime. Checking at ANN, this is a three OVA series that was debuted in 2007. It's also quite funny that not only they picked up this anime that happens to be 4 years old, but they also dubbing it. It really reminds me the AX 2011 where someone stated "old-school" does not mean anime that was made before 2008.

                          Quite an unusual choice indeed.

I have kind of heard of this, but everything I've heard says it's terrible in a "this is so horrible it will melt your brain" way. I'll be passing on it.

It's interesting that Sentai is getting these random short OVA projects lately, but none of the OVAs they've gotten seem very appealing to me.

Wow, the Dragon's Heaven guy. I seem to remember that was like twenty minutes of animation released with an hour worth of random sub-Shiraishi live-action nonsense - design stuff, wasn't it? Since the "director" is a design guy when he actually pulls a paycheck... the description of ICE sounded like porn before I got to tl;dr.

Has anyone seen ICE? Did it have the same Moebius-influenced sensibility that Dragon's Heaven had?
