    SENTAI FILMWORKS ANNOUNCES
“Wake Up, Girls! The Movie” Home Video Release

HOUSTON, March 1, 2016Sentai Filmworks is proud to announce the home video release of Wake Up, Girls! The Movie on June 7, 2016.

It is a time of fierce competition between many rival pop idol groups. This is the story of "Wake Up, Girls!" a group made up of seven young girls who have braved the raging storm.

Green Leaves Entertainment is a small production agency located in Sendai, Tohoku, representing former magicians, pinup idols, and fortune tellers. With its last active performer having quit, it finds itself in a dangerous situation as its talent base drops to zero -- so company president Junko Tange comes up with the idea to produce an idol unit. While manager Kohei Matsuda has his concerns about the overbearing president, he heads to the city streets in search of diamonds in the rough. In doing so, Matsuda will bring about an inevitable encounter with a certain young girl...

The film was directed by Yutaka Yamamoto with a script by Toko Machida. Character design was helmed by Sunao Chikaoka, with Satoru Kosaki and MONACA in charge of music composition. Animation production was handled by Tatsunoko Production (Mach GoGoGo, The Adventures of Hutch the Honeybee, Gatchaman) and Ordet (The Miyawaka Family's Hunger, Senyu, BLACK★ROCKSHOOTER).

Sentai Filmworks licensed both Wake Up, Girls! The Movie and the Wake Up, Girls! TV Series in December 2015, and the movie is available for preorder now.

I was just saying the day before yesterday that I though Sentai might license this (and hopefully get the newer movies eventually too). This may be a sign of that, if this is not just a streaming-only deal.

Good news. I've been hoping someone would pick this up and a home video release looks pretty good in terms of happening.

However, I did some comparisons and it is the home video version they're streaming (and not the TV version as was simulcast on Crunchyroll).

Ah, interesting. Thanks for the head's up. Mostly animation improvements, I imagine? Didn't think there'd be much content-wise in the show needing changing, but maybe so. An excuse to re-watch on Hulu maybe.

Yeah, seems like little animation fixes as is usual. I used this article I came across to check.

That was certainly coming, and given that negotiations go through TV Tokyo that it couldn't be announced until it's ready for solicitation. Given the timing of this announcement that I'm thinking that it will be solicited for an April release. It's about that time of the month again, and seeing that it's the holidays that I'm expecting the announcements to come a bit sooner than usual.

SYNOPSIS: Green Leaves Entertainment is in the worst situation any Talent Management Agency can be in… they have NO talent! Desperate for an act, President Junko Tange targets the idol singer market and gives her flunky Matsuda his marching orders: get a girl group to manage, even if it means building one from scratch! Since complete singing groups rarely appear out of thin air, Matsuda's now in the difficult position of having to find girls with the right skills who don't already have contracts with Japan's music industry. That girl at the Maid Café? Good enough! A lead singer who's been fired from another group? Sure, why not? How about one who's only 13 years old? What could possibly go wrong there? They may not be on the A-list, the B-List, or even the C-list to start, but with a little love and a whole lot of hard work, it's possible that all Japan may someday wake up to the music of WAKE UP, GIRLS!
