Based on the manga from original creator Takumi Yanai, Gate is a military adventure fantasy series taking place in Tokyo, where a strange gate to a different world has opened up in the Ginza District. When monsters begin pouring out and rampaging across the city, the Japanese Self Defense Forces are tasked with entering the gate to see what terrors lie on the other side.

Takahika Kyogoku will be on the frontlines as director, with Tatsuhiko Urahate handling series composition. Jun Nakai will be providing character design, and music will be composed by Yoshiaki Fujisawa. Animation production will be handled by A-1 Pictures, whose previous projects included Sword Art Online and tsuritama.

Even though this show looks horribly generic despite A1's animation, I'm kinda interested just because of all the really ridiculous things I've heard about it.

Showgate announced the series to be 24 episodes on their site. We just didn't know if it will be continuous or split. A couple other series handled internationally by Showgate are split cour as well: Snow White with the Red Hair, Ushio & Tora).

What's the likelihood of Gate getting a collectors edition and or dub?

A ton of factors go into deciding that, and it depends on how it does during the simulcast period. Certainly that's not the only factor, or a deciding factor, but it is just as important as the rest in figuring out whether something qualifies for a CE.

is gate coming back for a second seasonif yes when and is it going to be dubbed or on dvd soon?

Gate is indeed coming back for a second season, set to start January 2016 if I'm not mistaken. Yes, it will eventually come to DVD and Blu-ray, jury is still out on a dub though, but you can certainly pray to Rory for that to happen. >.>

I hope this doesn't mean that this will be one of those "you have to buy the limited edition to get the BDs" situation. I really hope it's more like the My Love Story situation.

That's cool, considering that it was a split cour show. The only other one off the top of my head is Snow White with the Red Hair which was released in two separate releases.
