Toymaker Tomy and prodco d-rights are teaming up to launch the third generation of Beyblade battle toys, featuring a brand-new concept designed to make play more exciting.

The new “Burst” line of spinning tops from the Japanese companies physically erupt in battle, and come equipped with a digital cloud battle system that lets kids keep track of the points they earn through victories and defeats.

The new range launches in Japan this July, ahead of the global roll-out. Tomy and d-rights expect it to continue the success of the first two generations of the toys (launched in 1999 and 2008), which have generated over US$3.65 billion in combined sales across more than 80 countries.

d-rights, which is owned by Mitsubishi and Japanese advertising agency Asatsu DK (ADK), is also in the very early stages of a new Beyblade animation project. When completed, it will be distributed in Western markets by another ADK company, New York-based Sunrights.

In June 2013, Canada’s Nelvana Enterprises and d-rights produced three Beyblade spin-off series and two one-hour specials. Nelvana also lined up a range of merchandise deals for the property at the time.
Just putting "TV" prefix for now, since I'm unsure as to what exactly this will all entail. Either way, it seems Nelvana is out of the picture for this new series.

Why can't they just let Beyblade die already? I love the original 3 seasons and always will. I grew up with them so they will always have a special place in my heart, but come on, let it die already.

Toys R Us doesn't even carry the toys anymore I read, Walgreens has their remaining stock in the clearance isle for $2.19 a piece. What more evidence do they need that the franchise is dead?

Anyway... I guess we'll see how this plays out.

I'm just annoyed they come pre-assembled now.

I actually haven't bought any of the newer ones since G-Revolution around.. 2006-2007? I remember my first few Beyblade toys I actually had to have my mom help me out with building when I was really little, lol.

I don't like the voice acting in the Metal Fight series. The characters don't have the same feel that the original team did (Tyson, Ray, Kai, Max, Kenny).

At least with the time between the classic series and the new stuff there's a distinct gap, I completely lost it when they announced Bey Wheels. I am at least glad that kids of today will experience Beyblade in some capacity and hopefully will check out the original series too. :D
