FUNimation Acquires Rights to Show By Rock!!
Posted by Michelle on 03/28/2015 at 6:55pm

We’re excited to announce that we have acquired the rights for Studio Bones’ new super-cute nekomimi music anime, Show By Rock!! This series is all about music and features bands of cute animal-ear girls AND handsome animal-ear guys, covering all types of music— pop, visual kei rock, Japanese, and more, with something for all audiences. The Show By Rock!! franchise comes to you in conjunction with Sanrio (yes, THAT Sanrio), and it’s got lots of popular Japanese seiyuu voice actors with popular singing backgrounds, so you know it’s going to be adorable and fun!

Here’s a preview of the bands in Show By Rock!! [see blog post]

    [...]

    CHARACTER VOICE ACTRESS PREVIOUS ROLES
    Cyan Eri Inagawa

Simulcast schedule will be announced soon, so stay tuned to FUNimation social media until then! Here’s the synopsis:

Musical merriment and cute creatures collide in this series from the dream team pairing Sanrio and Studio Bones (Ouran High School Host Club, Soul Eater)!

Set in the glamorous metropolis Tokyo Midi City, where music—and the dream of musical superstardom—is everything. Here, “battle of the bands” is more than just a teen rivalry: Dozens of ensembles compete for the honor of playing atop the city’s highest tower. When a Gothic Lolita-clad catgirl cutie named Cyan stumbles into the music world, she too is swept up by the dream of fame. After joining forces with three other colorful characters—bunnygirl honor student Chuchu, shy doggirl Retoree, and adorable sheepgirl Moa—the quartet becomes Plasmagica, the freshest band on the scene. Armed with special instruments, the girls face off with other bands striving for stardom, like the cool and passionate Visual Kei band Shingan Crimsonz, or the handsome pop idols Trichronika. Will the band find celebrity? Or are they doomed to be one-hit-wonders…

I'm interested in this show because of the variety of characters. The instrument design is a bit on the ridiculous side, especially Cyan's heart guitar and Yaiba's sword bass. I also like that Rom, the drummer from ShinganCrimsonZ is muscular. I would love to see Moa and Rom fall in love and become a pair.

Question on Tsurezurenaru Ayatsuri Mugenan. Their bassist is only known as bassist A. Does this band have a problem retaining bass players? Do they spontaneously combust?

I played the iOS game and it's seems cute. Can't believed Sanrio made this. I only tried this because I was looking for games like love live...
Edit: I hate the iPhone autocorrect....

I was quite surprised that Funimation picked up this show given what I know about it, and even more so when I read that the company that brought Hello Kitty had a hand in this. But of course, after last season's barrage of licenses, there's no sign of them stopping, and thus they are willing to go after just about anything these days. I'm not expected to follow this show seeing how down on my priorities this show is, but I'll give it a look just to see what kinds of crazy ideas are involved.

^ Thread prefix tag updated. A bit unconventional for them to do this nowadays, but I count it as a confirmation.
