  • [Theatrical] Stand By Me Doraemon

So Stand By Me Doraemon has an English dub. I would assume that it will eventually receive a limited theatrical release in North America.

I wonder if this means the dub on DXD did well?

Only if the dub matches the heavily localized US TV dub I would think. If it's a more literal dub made for Hong Kong it would confuse all the poor kiddies.

The dub on Disney XD is actually pretty good, and from what I hear, fairly accurate dialogue-wise (it's mostly just the names, terms, etc changed). I never expected the movie to get a dubbed theatrical release, but why not?

The dub is... really weird. Like, I mentioned this on another forum, but the dub had a very good and faithful script (well, as far as they were allowed to be) and very decent voice direction. Even the casting, for the most part, is spot on. I really enjoyed those aspects of the dub. It's just everything else about that dub is kinda iffy to me, due to the over localization going on with it. Most of these changes were not so much the fault of the studio (Bang Zoom, which I even heard they wanted to revert some of those said changes), but rather TV Asahi. Wouldn't be the first time the Japanese have mandated these changes, nor the last, even if everything else about the dub is great (a similar situation happened with Eyeshield 21. Dub itself was fine, but the hacking of the footage and music made everything really hard to watch).

As for this, I'm curious whether or not this is the US cast. Even if it is, I really wonder if this would keep the Japanese music and what not intact, since it would be harder to edit the CGI (unless TV Asahi went in and re-rendered everything). Apparently the Doraemon TV series did have a screening in Japan with the English dub with Japanese subtitles, similar to what's going on here. Kinda curious what the Japanese reaction has been so far to this.
