    [...]

To conclude their panel, FUNimation played a video announcing they have acquired the rights to Cowboy Bebop. This will be the first time that the series will be available digitally and on Blu-ray in the U.S., FUNimation expects to release Cowboy Bebop in 2014.

Cowboy Bebop on Blu-ray: The least surprising announcement of the year but still the best. Nothing else to say, just bring on the release date announcement and solicitation.

Attention Funi, please IVTC this so it's progressive. The only reason the Japanese release was interlaced is because of the ending credits which are paged on still pictures but it's 30 fps, the episodes and opening are all 24 fps. Bandai Visual for whatever reason left it interlaced. Dropping frames from the ending wouldn't be an issue in this case.

          That was fast.

It *is* the most iconic anime of the last decade or so, though, so no surprise they're all over the hype already.

While I'm more excited over some of the other titles they picked up, I will upgrade my original Bandai DVDs with the BD release.

I hope that stays as their trailer. All Bebop needs is Tank! with a few notes about this new release. They keep some trailers shorter, but this is Bebop, so it certainly deserves its full minute and a half.

Blu-ray on this is certainly tempting, though I'm not really in a rush to replace the Bandai DVD collection on the shelf. Eventually.

Another non-surprise here. Even though I have seen the series many times, I will be double dipping on the Blu-ray.

Obvious quadruple-dip for me (Perfect Sessions, Best Sessions, Remix, BD), assuming they don't screw it up somehow (like Image did with the movie BD).

The announcement we all knew was coming eventually. Happy to see that Cowboy Bebop is licensed again, and will be taken from OOP status in due time. The upgrade to Blu-ray is an enticing offer, and one I'll be considering personally. I haven't taken the jump to Blu-ray for the movie yet, so perhaps if I double dip on the series for the Blu-ray, I'll be considering picking up the movie in similar fashion.

Cowboy Bebop on BD would be great ! Hope that they secured the same materials of the Japanese BDs.

I highly doubt that Funi would be releasing it on BD if they hadn't.

Great news. I've wanted this series forever but never wanted to get the DVD version when I figured a BD had to be coming at some point in the future.
