    Crimson Star Media’s First Acquisition

NEWNAN, GA. June 29th, 2013 — Love can be found in the strangest places. Check out Crimson Star Media’s first acquisition: Looking Up At The Half-Moon! Based on the light novel Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora by Tsumugu Hashimoto, this six episode series is directed by Yukihiro Matsushita (Maria Watches Over Us), and features character designs by Mitsuru Ohara (Peach Girl), music by Shinkichi Mitsumune (FLCL, Rozen Maiden) and animation by Group TAC (Black Blood Brothers, Gilgamesh).

Yuuichi Ezaki was recently diagnosed with Hepatitis A and admitted to the hospital to recover. One day after sneaking out, he returns to the hospital only to be confronted by the head nurse, Akiko. Later that same day while on the rooftop, Akiko makes a deal with Yuuichi. She will overlook his sneaking out of the hospital in the future if he will befriend a new patient at the hospital. The girl, Rika Akiba, has just recently been moved into the hospital to get the proper care for her serious heart condition. What ensues is a friendship that grows into something more as Yuuichi and Rika begin to bond looking up at the half-moon.

Crimson Star Media is a group of avid anime fans that started out working in fansub groups, subtitling and releasing anime every season as it aired. We loved anime so much that we decided to try our hand at getting into the industry. Crimson Star is still in the beginning stages and trying to raise capital. At the moment we are currently in contact with many various Japanese licensors for particular titles. Also we are trying our hardest to form partnerships with other pre-existing companies to help in our endeavors. We hope to bring some good news anime fans way very soon. So stay tuned.

Always interesting to see a new company enter the scene. Considering they're starting from nothing, I have no reason to expect anything more than Anime Midstream, but it should be interesting to watch their early moves anyway.

Also for anyone who prefers to use Facebook, their page is here. I think it's interesting that if they get enough support (275 pre-orders) for their first title they will be looking to dub it. It's definitely a different approach to what Discotek is doing. It does make sense though, considering it's only a 6 episode OVA series. I personally am ready to throw money at this title, as I even suggested it to Anime Sols, but I guess it was a little too late for that one. This just might be a better outcome in the end. I encourage anyone to check it out and support this endeavor!

Re: Crimson Star Media, a new anime licensing & localization company

HanTsuki as their first title? Consider me interested.

Maybe they will be dedicated to licensing those '00s shows that are perhaps considered too old for the companies dedicated towards newer stuff, but not older enough for those licensing the "nostalgic" stuff? Could they be the company that finally licenses stuff like Mahoraba for North America? Time will tell, I guess.

In the meantime, let's hope they know how to make good-quality DVDs...

Oh neat, I saw a few episodes of that, but never finished it. I did remember liking what I saw, though. I could possibly be in for supporting their first release if it is that.

Believe me if the title we announce Saturday sells well I already have another license lined up that I think a lot of people will be happy about.

Looking over things, it looks like they're auditioning to actually allow fans to do the voices for the dubs--in other words, it would be a professional fandub.

I suppose it's the only way they can be reasonably expected to dub something and keep the costs down. Not sure about everyone else, but I'd still be interested in hearing such a dub.

If this is indeed CSM's first title (clues do lean towards this title) then count me in, too. Seems like a good first license for a fledgling company.

Re: Crimson Star Media, a new anime licensing & localization company

Well this is some interesting news. Kind of bizarre it seems like their going for a professional fandub route but Funi hired most of their original VA's off the street at first so who knows. Dunno what to expect from these guys but it's always good to have new blood in the R1 market since the amount of companies started dwindling down over the last few years. Hopefully these guys are successful and don't end up becoming as irrelevant as Anime Midstream...

Interesting development here with a new distributor, and one that is formed out of Atlanta. Let's hope things work out with this company.

I was skeptical at first, so I did some digging in the Georgia business portal thing.

It's run by Corey Maddox. I'm sure we all remember the guy. Scammer and big criminal record guy.

There's no way this is legitimate.
