Time never betrays dreams. But on the flip side, dreams must not betray time.

Well, that's something I wasn't expecting to see. I wonder if this would be worth double-dipping for the Blu-ray upgrade, as well as the inclusion of the OVA. Not to mention this is still being published by ADV Films. It's something I will definitely be considering.

Comparison shot of the JP BD-box have been posted on the JP threads on both Mania forums and here:

The level of detail is probably around 540p. I don't think you should really expect too much more from a nearly decade show old digitally animated show that wasn't made with HD in mind. That they recomposited instead of just pushing out a lazy upscale is appreciated. Look like that redid all the text for titles/credits as well. They also added a credits page for the HD mastering after the end of the credits.

One thing I do wish is that it came in a chipboard box. Occasionally lower priced JP box sets (like this one) don't come in chipboard boxes, but it would have been nice.

Ahhh damn. I'll probably end up with this. I hope the packaging is nice, although it's Sentai so that seems unlikely. BD is really surprising. I guess that Japanese BD release ultra flopped or at the least, isn't moving enough units anymore for there to be reverse importation fears large enough to trump money from a license.

The JP BD-Box was released in December of last year so 9 months later for a US release is good timing to bring it over here.

So Elfen Lied is being re-released on DVD yet again, this time with the OVA, and we're also getting the BD, nice.

While the BD is not a huge improvement, I'll still go for that anyway.

Only thing that could make this release any better, would be to get the soundtrack.

It's also streaming on a lot of sites. It's on Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Anime Network.

I just randomly checked TRSI, and the order page has been updated to "Reserved for your order." so I think this should be shipping soon.
