FUNimation Acquires Streaming Rights for Date A Live

    Tuesday April 9, 2013 at 01:30 pm

April 9, 2013 - FLOWER MOUND, TX - FUNimation announced today that it has acquired the streaming rights for Date A Live. The series is from the studio behind Cat Planet Cuties, and is directed by Keitaro Montonaga (Jormungand).

Date A Live will premiere on http://funimation.com on April 12, 2013 at 1:30pm ET/ 12:30pm CT. The simulcast will air Fridays at 1:30pm ET/ 12:30pm CT.

    synopsis:
30 years ago, a disaster known as a spacequake obliterated the center of Eurasia without warning, leaving 150 million corpses in its wake. Ever since that day, mankind has lived in constant fear of the spontaneously recurring spacequakes.

One day, an ordinary high school boy named Shido Itsuka discovers a mysterious girl at ground zero of a recent spacequake. Shido learns, through the help of his sister Kotori, that the girl is one of the Spirits: mystical creatures responsible for the genesis of the spacequakes. As captain of the anti-Spirit airship Ratatoskr, Kotori recruits Shido to help “seal” the sprits, thus ending their threat to mankind.

There’s just one catch: the only way to seal a spirit – is to make her fall in love with you.

Re: FUNimation licenses Date A Live

Well, it is a show that had be high on my interest list, but having it licensed by Funi makes me less likely to watch it during the simulcast season seeing that I have only been willing to watch one title through Funi per season, and Karneval is that show for the spring. It's something that certainly is in line with the type of shows they have been licensing as of late. I will at least check it out.

Well we knew that a little before they announced it, but yeah, cool. I'll check it out. Honestly I'd rather not enjoy stuff FUNimation streams as much just because I'd rather not have to deal with their system too much, but I guess that's not the best attitude to have.

Just like Red Data Girl, episodes 2 & 3 for Date A Live are uploaded today (http://www.funimation.com/videos/simulcast). Hulu would most likely the same later on today.

Season 1 is now licensed in Australia. The chance of FUNimation getting the home video rights is pretty high now.

This is interesting that they got the OVA which was bundled with a light novel in Japan. I can't recall but is this a Kadokawa title?

I doubt Funi will quickly release this series considering the final JP BD volume is at the end of November while the bundled OVA is set for December 2013.

Considering the last Kadoakwa title Funi released on Bluray was Maken-ki! without a delay, in which the JP BD-box that came out the same month, it be great to see Date A Live be the next one to continue on BD. Hopefully summer/fall 2014 release timeframe unless Funi is pushing to release the 1st season around the 2nd season simulcast(Spring 2014) and Kadokawa goes back to forcing them to go back to DVD only at first with a pending BD sometime in the future.

Well good to see I was guessing around the right time for Funi to release this and lets see whether Kadokawa can let them do this on Bluray like they recently did with Maken-Ki! from last year.
