Aniplex of America licenses Durarara!! (Seasons 1 & 2)
Ryugamine Mikado was looking for a bit of excitement when he moved to the trendy Tokyo district of Ikebukuro—and excitement is just what he found thanks to the district’s colorful residents. There’s Shizuo, a street-sign-throwing man dressed like a bartender who’s always fighting Izaya (a sadistic information broker), your average group of passionate otaku, an unstable doctor-for-hire, and a mysterious female biker who’s desperate to get a-head in life. In Ikebukuro, no one can say what will happen next … but you can bet it’s gonna get loud.
For Durarara!! only: All episodes of Durarara!! Season 1, Durarara!! X2 Shou (Season 2, Part 1) and Durarara!! X2 Ten (Season 2, Part 2) will also be available in subtitled and dubbed versions.

That's interesting, this being an AoA show and all (though not too much considering they started branching out getting just streaming rights for some shows they didn't have the license to last season). Did Funi simulcast any of the previous seasons at all?

No, they didn't. This is kinda weird, but nice for Funi subscribers.

Very interesting to see this partnership progress. I guess there's no reason either company shouldn't want to do this as long as the division of rights is clear, so good for FUNimation-only subscribers, assuming there are some. As long as it's also on Crunchyroll, I'm happy.
So with this announcement, Aniplex is trying to get their shows streaming in as many places as possible. They have always been on Crunchyroll and Hulu, they have a partnership with Daisuki, they are putting dubs on Netflix, and now they are putting their shows on Funimation. Let's see how this partnership proceeds.

Sign of Confidence or Desperation you think? Are their Home Video Sales declining and they are looking for extra revenue from streaming as well as extra exposure for their titles? or gaining traction in the market and just looking to reap the benefits of that?
Serious question even if slightly skewed from my perspective of not liking Aniplex of America so much.
I think they're just trying to make up for the fact that these shows aren't widely available on home video, so they're making them available through streaming in as many places as possible.
I wonder how much longer we'll have to wait til Durarara!!x2 Ten(Second arc)'s DVD/BD releases are announced/solicited.
Well, the first cour was solicited just two days before the second one began airing, so based on that, it would be sometime later this week. Of course, the holidays alter the timing of everything, but it should be coming up really soon.

As usual, I would love to collect this season of this amazing show, but having each cour split into 2 releases really kills it for me. I might get it someday after all the volumes are released for a while (preferably with one of those fabled AoA discounts).
^ I know the feeling. Pretty much the "fabled discounts" happen around the holiday season and that's pretty much it. The "decent" discounts happen on older titles or titles that (seem to) not sell well.

Yeah, I feel the same way. This is such an amazing show and they did a great job with the first season. But with this season, the release is two installments per cour and in those flimsy slips that they have been using for almost all of their releases. I would have considered it if it had been released one cour at a time in chipboard boxes, but of course this is Aniplex after all. Thank goodness that, the dub can be watched on CR, so I have been doing that.
