There’s a daylight saving bonus hour happening on November 5th, so Toonami’s showing Makoto Shinkai’s “Children Who Chase Lost Voices.” Catch it on 11/5 at 3:00a, right after One Piece!

I can't be the only one who thinks this isn't a good fit for Toonami, right?

Huh... I guess if there's a Shinkai movie with any action, this would be it. Still weird.

So what was the decision behind airing Children Who Chase Lost Voices in the middle of the night on November 5th as opposed to running it at midnight on October 29th instead of a Gundam marathon?

Lol. DST provided an opportunity to do an extra hour of something, and the movie was presented as a cheap alternative. Airing it that late we risk nothing. The Gundam marathon did better than 90% of the movies we could afford would. Ya'll movie hounds need to let this go. Not sure what golden memories you have of all the movies in Toonami, but we've NEVER showed a ton of movies and when we have, it was always because of larger deals made by the network or even TBS broadcasting as a whole. We do not have, and will not have, a large discretionary budget to blow on one night events. We aren't HBO or Crunchyroll or Netflix, and we never will be. Not sure what else to say. The fact that anyone's first reaction to us showing an awesome movie is "but what about this OTHER THING YOU SAID" blows my mind, really.

How the hell did you convince Adult Swim to let you guys show Children Who Chase Lost Voices? I thought you said it would be more likely to win the lottery than to see another movie on Toonami?

          Got lucky, really.

Are you confident that airing children who chase lost voices at 3:00 am will do well?

It'll do better at 3am than anything else on TV, which is all we need.

So...movies [on Toonami] are a thing again?

          Probably not, tbh.

I for one would love a change. Adult Swim has gotten boring and predictable.

This upcoming March, Toonami’s celebrating it's 20th anniversary. As part of the festivities, Toonami proudly presents “Sand Whale and Me,” a 25 minute, 5 part short film from legendary director Mamoru Oshii (Ghost in the Shell, Patlabor) and Production I.G.

Presented in a hybrid live action/CG style, "Sand Whale and Me” is the story of a female paratrooper in the distant future who is stranded in a vast desert. With limited supply of food and water, her only hope is to catch a Sand Whale from a pack. If she can’t, her life may just hang in the balance.
Check out first of several behind the scenes moments captured on set. Be sure to watch Toonami on March 18th for the part one premiere of “Sand Whale and Me!”

It could have been worse, but the ratings war down from two weeks ago. It must have been because of the election coverage, but at least DBZ Kai is doing well. With Thanksgiving coming up that another marathon is coming, and Jojo's Bizarre Adventure isn't far enough to have one (it will most definitely get one for Christmas weekend that starts from the beginning as eight episodes will have aired by then). Iron-Blooded Orphans was what I was expecting, but Toonami decided to do that for Halloween instead even though it's not a holiday where people are leaving town for. I think it will be for DBZ Kai with the possibility of being for Hunter x Hunter with one of them happening for Thanksgiving and the other one for New Year's Eve.

As things stand, DBZ Kai and MSG:IBO will finish out in December before the two holiday marathons, and while it is pretty obvious that Toonami will continue on with the Buu Saga come January, it remains up in the air as to what replaces IBO. The top possibilities include the new Samurai Jack and FLCL series, and one other strong possibility is Mob Psycho 100 as Funimation has yet to announce the airdate for the Simuldub. Seeing that it is by the same guy who did One Punch Man that did extraordinarily well in the ratings that I would have to think that there's a strong push to get MP100 on. In any case, it has to be something for one cour or less as there's the second season of Attack on Titan coming this spring, and Toonami will no doubt air the show's simuldub like they did with Dimension W.

Those ratings took quite a big nosedive last weekend. This week is Thanksgiving, and Toonami hasn't announced what show is going to have its marathon yet. There's not much to choose from as Iron-Blooded Orphans had their marathon for Halloween, while Jojo's Bizarre Adventure isn't far enough (it's a sure bet for the Christmas or New Year's marathon), leaving only Hunter x Hunter and DBZ Kai as the only shows where a marathon makes sense, and I would have to think DBZ Kai gets the other December marathon weekend with the Cell Saga coming to an end soon.

I don't know if this changes before the weekend, but my guide is showing the regular lineup for this weekend on Toonami. The fact that Jojo's Bizarre Adventure isn't far enough along may have something to do with that. Episode 5 just aired last week, and Toonami needs this week to run a normal lineup along with the three weeks following (December 3, 10, and 17) in order to finish the Phantom Blood arc (through episode 9) before Christmas. Episode 10 starts the Battle Tendency arc.

Jojo's Bizarre Adventure will probably be the Christmas marathon. The New Year's weekend with New Year's Eve falling on Toonami's regular night may end up with Toonami taking the week off that night.
