Some breaking news from the #Amecon industry panel for you: Mawaru Penguindrum has been licensed for a UK release.
    LINK
First out of the hat from Kaze was Mawaru Penguindrum (aka Spinning Penguindrum), director Kunihiko Ikuhara's surreal and abstract tale of fate as it entwines itself into the lives of a group of characters, all of which face their own circumstances coloured by a terrorist attack on the Tokyo subway system that has affected them all. There's no further news on the exact release strategy for this twenty-four episode series from 2011 at this point in time, but we'll keep you posted if we learn more on this series which is still yet to have a North American licensing deal officially announced.

I'll be curious if they know anything on whether it will be dubbed or not. It's rumored to be licensed in the US. Hopefully won't be long until someone announces it here. I'm not sure if I'm interested enough to buy, but it is one I want to see come out.

If it doesn't get licensed stateside R1, I will most certainly import it whether it be on DVD or more hopefully BD also.

In fact I think because Kaze UK is the distributor, I think this adds credibility to NISA's claims. What's more, they don't seem to have anything that either doesn't or won't get an English dub so the field can be narrowed down to FUNimation, Sentai (full BD release) and (seeing as how Kaze is pretty much a European analog to them) Viz. My personal money is on Sentai.

Well I would like a copy of this series so I'll either be getting this or a US release (if it gets one) ... which will depend on release dates and if anyone puts it out on BD ...

I'm thinking that this announcement serves as another indication that Penguindrum has actually been licensed in the U.S., especially if it gets a dub. And if it does, it would pretty much have to be either a Funi or Sentai license (my gut instinct would be Sentai, but I don't know which is actually more probable).

                (regarding dub/sub):
Cannot comment just now due to no US licensee - we'd like to hope so though, will confirm before release in 2013 .

They licensed it but dont know how they will release it? Is this common in the animu industry?

I don't know about the animu industry (what do they release, crisps? porn? cheese? zebras?) but in the UK anime industry recently it's become increasingly more common.

A more accurate way to read Kazé's comments aren't that they don't know what they're doing, but rather that they know who has the US rights, can't say obviously, but we can infer that it's a company that may or may not dub it.

Kazé aren't in the business of dubbing things themselves except in a few rare instances, so if it's gonna get a dub it's by the unannounced US rights holder.

So not Funimation, and not Nozomi or NISA, as they're the extreme 'dub everything' and 'sub only everything' examples.

It could be, like they say, they are hoping a dub will become available prior to release (Manga's license for Blue Exorcist included provision for a dub should one become available - which it has, although the timing was off..)

They also could be under NDA and unable to say or even hint anything (Manga announced a couple of titles prior to the US license was announced and outed FUNimation then had to backtrack)

When MVM got Mayo Chiki they knew Sentai had it (but didn't say anything about it) and were expecting it to be dubbed.

Kaze dub loads of stuff... Just not in English.

I think Kaze's only English dub is Professor Layton, which they had done at Side UK who worked on the games.

When did FUNimation say they didn't have the rights? Don't get me wrong, my money's on Viz right now but I don't remember FUNimation ever stating specifically that they didn't have them.
