  • 2021 Dubs List

    Widgets Magazine
2020 is coming to an end and as such it's now time to create a new thread that lists the dubs for 2021. In determining which shows belong in this list, as opposed to belonging to 2020 or 2022, these are the following criteria I have laid down for what constitutes a 2021 dub.
    • For TV series that got a simuldub or dubcast, as well as those whose dubs premiered on Toonami or other TV stations, it is based on the year the first episode came out. So dubs that began in airing in 2021 and continue into 2022 are included. This excludes such shows where the first episode came out in 2020 or earlier and continue into 2021 like Fire Force season 2, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Akudama Drive.
    • For TV series whose dub premiered with the release of the BD, it is based on the scheduled release date of the first volume (if applicable) or when the whole dub (at least up to the episodes in the first volume BD release) is available to stream, whichever comes first. There are some shows that put the first few episodes up for streaming ahead of time, but again it's based on the BD release schedule. Also, if the first volume of the show is released on year and a subsequent part is released in another year, it is listed based on when the first part came out.
    • For movies, it is based on when the dub premiered in theaters. If the movie is not screened, it will go by the BD release schedule.
So with that, here is a starting list of shows with dubs coming out in 2021.
    Crunchyroll Simuldub:
The Hidden Dungeon Only I Can Enter

Before I get to the usual seasonal assessment, here are the shows that have been confirmed for dubs so far this season:

    Crunchyroll
    Jujutsu Kaisen (continuing)
    Burn the Witch (movie)
The Hidden Dungeon Only I Can Enter
    Re:Zero Season 2 Part 2
So I'm a Spider, So What?

So Crunchyroll's slate of shows to dub is already been decided, and chances are they will add Bungo Stray Dogs Wan! to it with same Studiopolis cast. Crunchyroll licenses with Funimation handling the simuldub is happening is lasted under Funimation.

    Funimation
    Black Clover (continuing)
Higurashi: When They Cry Gou (continuing)
    Attack on Titan: Final Season
    Dr. Stone: Stone Wars
    The Quintessential Quintuplets Season 2
Sorcerous Stabber Orphen: Battle of Kimluck
That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 2
Strike Witches: Road to Bearlin (Fall show that will be getting simuldub this season)

So far, Funimation has committed themselves to doing eight simuldubs this season. They still have a few shows from the fall season that they will likely simuldub at some point like Moriarty the Patriot, Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club, and the aforementioned and confirmed Strike Witches: Road to Berlin.

    Netflix
    Beastars Season 2
The Seven Deadly Sins: Dragon's Judgment

Anything Netflix has, save for a messy licensing situation, they will dub.

    Aniplex
    Cells at Work! Season 2
    Cells at Work! Code Black
    The Promised Neverland Season 2

These are sequels and spinoffs, so at some point they will get dubbed. Promised Neverland is most likely going to premiere on Toonami. The other Aniplex titles could have their simuldubs handled by Funimation or Bang Zoom as was the case in the fall.

And that's all for now as I'm waiting until everything has premiered before doing my seasonal assessment.

Now that every show this season has started, it's time I do my usual dub assessment to determine how likely each show is going to get a dub. Once again, I'm only listing shows that have episodes that are at least half-length in runtime and are legally streaming somewhere in North America with the exception of Netflix shows, with the exception of shorts with a home video license (and this season there are none).

      Confirmed
Attack on Titan Final Season (Funimation Simuldub)
      Beastars Season 2 (Netflix)
Bungo Stray Dogs Wan! (Crunchyroll Simuldub)
      Burn the Witch (Crunchyroll Simuldub)
Cells at Work! Season 2 (Aniplex)
Cells at Work! Code Black (Aniplex)
      D4DJ First Mix (Bushiroad)
Dr. Stone: Stone Wars (Crunchyroll/Funimation Simuldub)
The Hidden Dungeon Only I Can Enter (Crunchyroll Simuldub)
Log Horizon: Destruction of the Round Table (Funimation Simuldub)
The Promised Neverland Season 2 (Aniplex)
The Quintessential Quintuplets Season 2 (Crunchyroll/Funimation Simuldub)
      Re:Zero Season 2 Part 2 (Crunchyroll Simuldub)
The Seven Deadly Sins: Dragon's Judgment (Netflix)
So I'm a Spider, So What? (Crunchyroll Simuldub)
Sorcerous Stabber Orphen: Battle of Kimluck (Funimation Simuldub)
That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 2 (Funimation Simuldub)

      Virtual Locks
      Horimiya (Aniplex)
      Kemono Jihen (Funimation)
      Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation (Funimation)
      SK8 the Infinity (Aniplex)
Suppose a Kid from the Last Dungeon Boonies moved to a starter town? (Funimation)
      Wonder Egg Priority (Aniplex)
      World Trigger Season 2 (Crunchyroll)
      World Witches Take Off! (Funimation)

With Crunchyroll's simuldub lineup for the season in place, everything else will pretty much depend on home video licenses. However, I do expect the World Trigger sequel to get a dub up in Canada. So except for World Trigger, all shows in this tier are streaming on Funimation. They only announced simuldub plans for continuing shows and sequels, which there are a lot of this season. There are three Aniplex shows in this tier as of the eight Aniplex titles this season, three are sequels or spinoffs and are going to Bang Zoom, though they are probably happening after the season ends, and in the case of The Promise Land it will presumably debut on Toonami. There is no question that Horimiya, SK8, and Wonder Egg Priority are going to be dubbed as they are three of the most-watched shows this season. The big question is who handles the dub as it could be Aniplex of America calling the shot, thus giving it to Bang Zoom, or they could let Funimation make that decision and dub it themselves. As for the other Funimation shows, World Witches Take Off! seems to be headed for a dub, but that's down the line seeing that Funimation still is working on getting Road to Berlin dubbed. Kemono Jihen, Mushoku Tensei, and Last Dungeon are the other obvious choices as they have the marketability.

      50/50
2.43 Seiin High School Boys Volleyball Team (Funimation)
      Back Arrow (Aniplex)
      Bottom-Tier Character Tomozaki (Funimation)
Dr. Ramune: Mysterious Disease Specialist (Crunchyroll)
      Hortensia Saga (Aniplex)
      Laid-Back Camp Season 2 (Crunchyroll)
      Otherside Picnic (Funimation)
      Show by Rock!! Stars!! (Funimation)
      Skate-Leading Stars (Funimation)

Of the remaining Crunchyroll shows, Laid-Back Camp has the best chance at getting a dub seeing that it's a very popular show, but the first season was somehow bypassed for a dub that came out when they had their deal with Funimation, all while less deserving shows like Citrus and Pop Team Epic (In the case of the latter, Sentai was supposed to have had the license for that show, but the publisher didn't allow exclusive licensing agreements and this was before Sentai had their Dubcast) got them in what was a crowded season. The other show with a reasonable shot is Dr. Ramune as that show is one of this season's sleepers. And for the remaining Funimation shows, these are all titles that should be getting dubs, but at the same time if studio usage gets overwhelmed, there's some justification for leaving these titles to be sub-only. Back Arrow and Hortensia Saga are the last two Aniplex titles, and if anything Funimation would provide the dubs for these seeing that they aren't as widely watched as the other Aniplex titles this season. Otherside Picnic has the Steins;Gate director working on it that pushes it to being dubbed, but at the same time the show just hasn't stood out in a good way. Funimation thought pretty highly of Skate-Leading Stars and they are counting on the Yuri on Ice fans for this show, but this is an inferior product in just about every way. And then there's Show by Rock!!, and seeing that they didn't dub Mashumairesh yet that this sounds about right for that show.

      Longshot
      Ex-Arm (Crunchyroll)
      Idoly Pride (Funimation)
      Scar on the Praeter (Funimation)
Umamusume: Pretty Derby Season 2 (Crunchyroll)

Ex-Arm is infamous, and that might be enough for it to get a dub, but I don't see it happening. While Idoly Pride at least has much better production values than Gekidol, it's part of a genre that's not really marketable in America. Scar on the Praeter is simply a snoozefest, and while the K vibes might earn it a dub, it's a show that's low on the priority list for Funimation. And lastly, Umamusume is a pretty good show that should be getting a home video license, but whoever does probably won't dub it as it's not exactly a marketable show. But of course, there's always the possibility it could.

      Not Happening
      Gekidol (Funimation)
      Heaven's Design Team (Crunchyroll)
      I-Chu (Crunchyroll)
      LBX Girls (Funimation)
      Non Non Biyori Nonstop (Sentai)
True Cooking Master Boy Season 2 (Crunchyroll)
      Wave!! Let's Go Surfing!! (Crunchyroll)
      WIXOSS Diva(A)Live (Crunchyroll)

Non Non Biyori never got a dub, thus Nonstop won't get one. While Sentai could easily go back and dub it, that ship appears to have sailed seeing that they re-released the TV series and put out the movie sub-only. While Crunchyroll has their fair share of bad anime shows, these ones I can't see getting a home video release. And with Funimation picking up way more titles than they can dub that sub-only releases are going to happen. Of their titles this season, Gekidol and LBX Girls are pretty much shows that are not expected to have a big audience, and these are shows Funimation licensed solely for purpose of keeping them away from Sentai or Crunchyroll.

well youre forgot something, its Redo of Healer ( Kaifuku Jutsushi no Yarinaoshi ), it was being licensed by Sentai and now being simulcasted on HIDIVE and no confirmation about the DUBCAST. So, Wil Redo of Healer getting a DUBCAST or follow what German licensor did ,i heard that German stop simulcasted the anime but they are gonna release it on Home media uncensored and giving it a german dub.

Umamusume is a pretty good show that should be getting a home video license, but whoever does probably won't dub it as it's not exactly a marketable show. But of course, there's always the possibility it could.
I think that even the game was not release in west, it was gain lot of attention and it was received well by the communities due to the Story, Character, Music etc since season 1 of the anime was aired. there was a interesting thing that it also gain traction to some Dub Va's, have you saw Kayli mills tweet about the show ? in her tweet looks like she was showing her interest with the show and one of the character, Tokai Teio was her favourite. there are some other VA's like Kristen Mcguire and Marissa lenti commenting on her tweet about the show was not get a dub.

Before I get to my usual quarterly assessment with dubs, here are the shows whose dub has been confirmed:

              86 (Aniplex/Crunchyroll)
              Cardfight!! Vanguard overDress (Bushiroad)
              Edens Zero (Netflix)
Fruits Basket: The Final Season (Funimation)
              Godzilla: Singular Point (Netflix)
How Not to Summon a Demon Lord Omega (Funimation)
I've Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years to Max Out My Level (Crunchyroll)
              Mars Red (Funimation)
My Hero Academia Season 5 (Funimation)
              Shaman King (2021) (Netflix)
              The Slime Diaries (Funimation)
              To Your Eternity (Crunchyroll)
              Tokyo Revengers (Crunchyroll)
Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun Season 2 (Crunchyroll)
              Zombie Land Saga Revenge (Funimation)

To summarize, Crunchyroll is dubbing To Your Eternity, Tokyo Revengers, Slime 300, Iruma-kun, 86 and the continuing So I'm a Spider, So What?, while Funimation's simuldubs have started for Mars Red, Fruits Basket, and My Hero Academia Season 5, while they will be dubbing How Not To Summon a Demon Lord, Zombie Land Saga, and The Slime Diaries for Funimation. Bushiroad will be in charge of the dub for Vanguard overDress, while Netflix will have Godzilla, Edens Zero, and Shaman King dubbed by the time they are ready to be released. Assessments are going to work a bit differently this season as Funimation is now dubbing shows on a simuldub schedule for their prolific shows, and for their lesser shows they will release them all at once months after the show finishes rather than not dubbing them at all (with some exceptions) from the look of things.

Time for me to make my quarterly assessment. This season's simuldubs are much more difficult to predict because Crunchyroll now has the majority of the shows, but they don't have their own in-house studio to dub it. On the flipside, Funimation's load this season is much lighter than in recent seasons, so this gives them plenty of time to get caught up on their backlog. And Netflix will have three shows plus ONAs and anything they have, they will dub it. In any case, time for me to do my assessment.

                Confirmed
                86 (Crunchyroll/Aniplex)
                Cardfight!! Vanguard overDress (Bushiroad/Bang Zoom)
                Edens Zero (Netflix)
                Fruits Basket: Final Season (Funimation)
                Godzilla Singular Point (Netflix)
                Hetalia: World Stars (Funimation)
How Not to Summon a Demon Lord Omega (Funimation)
I've Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxed Out My Level (Crunchyroll)
                Mars Red (Funimation)
Megalo Box 2: Nomad (Funimation/Bang Zoom)
My Hero Academia Season 5 (Funimation)
                Shaman King (2021) (Netflix)
                The Slime Diaries (Funimation)
                To Your Eternity (Crunchyroll)
                Tokyo Revengers (Crunchyroll)
The Way of the Househusband (Netflix)
Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun Season 2 (Crunchyroll/Bang Zoom)
                Zombie Land Saga Revenge (Funimation)

                Virtual Locks
                Combatants Will Be Dispatched! (Funimation)
                Dragon Goes House-Hunting (Funimation)
Full Dive: This Ultimate Next-Gen Full Dive RPG is Even Shittier than Real Life! (Funimation)
                Kingdom Season 3 (Funimation)
                Moriarty the Patriot (Funimation)
The Saint's Magic Power is Omnipotent (Funimation)
                Shadows House (Aniplex)
                SSSS.Dynazenon (Funimation)
                Super Cub (Funimation)
                Vivy: Fluorite Eye's Song (Aniplex)
The World Ends with You (Funimation)

Pretty much any Funimation or Aniplex title is going to get dubbed given the reduced catalog. The only ones that are at the very least getting a batch release after the season are Battle Athletes Victory and Blue Reflection Ray, while Aniplex has Pretty Boy Detective Club, and I'll explain those below. As for which shows are likely first in line, those are SSSS.Dynazenon, Full Dive, and Combatants Will be Dispatched, while Super Cub is a show that should be easy to dub with a lot of monologuing and a small cast, all while the script is straightforward. I thought about putting a Crunchyroll show in this tier, but there isn't an obvious choice among the ones without the dub, which I will again explain below.

                50/50
                Battle Athletes Victory ReSTART! (Funimation)
                Blue Reflection Ray (Funimation)
                Cestvs: The Roman Fighter (Crunchyroll)
Don't Toy With Me, Miss Nagatoro (Crunchyroll)
Higehiro: I Shaved, and Took in a High School Runaway (Crunchyroll)
Joran: The Princess of Snow and Blood (Crunchyroll)
                Pretty Boy Detective Club (Aniplex)
                Those Snow White Notes (Crunchyroll)

Battle Athletes and Blue Reflection are looking at postseason batch releases seeing that those two shows have pretty niche appeals, and not to mention so far those shows have been terrible. Pretty Boy Detective Club I put as a 50/50 because Nisioisin's shows are notoriously known for being difficult to dub, which is why Monogatari was bypassed for a dub. As for Crunchyroll stuff, I have to say that Those Snow White Notes has the best chance to get a dub, while Joran has marketability going for it, and Higehiro with reception. Miss Nagatoro comes from a pretty popular manga series, while Cestvs has marketability as well.

                Longshot
                Backflip!! (Crunchyroll)
                Burning Kabaddi (Crunchyroll)
Osamake: Romcom Where the Childhood Friend Won't Lose (Crunchyroll)
Seven Knights Revolution: Hero Successor (Crunchyroll)

These four shows could get dubbed by someone as they all have a solid case, but I'm not really expecting any of these to get dubs.

                Not Happening
                Fairy Ranmaru (Crunchyroll)
                Farewell, My Dear Cramer (Crunchyroll)
Kiyo in Kyoto: From the Maiko House (Crunchyroll)
                Koikimo (Crunchyroll)
Let's Make a Mug Too (Crunchyroll)
                Odd Taxi (Crunchyroll)

These shows just don't have any marketability at all, so that's why I would be shocked to see any of these dubbed. Fairy Ranmaru has a niche appeal, Cramer is just a poorly put together sports anime that makes for something that won't cut it for a dub, Kiyo in Kyoto has no marketability, Koikimo has very little going for it, Let's Make a Mug Too has no chance as it's just a straight-up slice of life with not much going for it, and while Odd Taxi has a case, again the appeal I just don't see it.

It's now onto the summer season, and now that I have watched every show thanks to the ridiculously staggered premiere schedule this season thanks in large part to Magia Record and Jahy being shorter than usual, I can now do my assessment of dubs for the season.

                  Confirmed
Battle Game in 5 Seconds (Crunchyroll)
Higurashi: When They Cry Sotsu (Funimation)
How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom (Funimation)
I'm Standing on a Million Lives Season 2 (Crunchyroll)
                  Magia Record Season 2 (Aniplex)
Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid S (Funimation)
My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! X (Crunchyroll)
                  Record of Ragnarok (Netflix)
                  Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness (Netflix)
That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 2 Part 2 (Funimation)
Transformers: War for Cybertron - Kingdom (Netflix)

                  Virtual Locks
The Case Study of Vanitas (Aniplex)
The Detective is Already Dead (Funimation)
The Duke of Death and His Maid (Funimation)
The Dungeon of Black Company (Funimation)
                  Getter Robo Arc (Sentai)
The Honor at Magic High School (Aniplex)
Life Lessons with Uramichi Oniisan (Funimation)
                  Love Live!! Superstar! (Funimation)
                  Re-Main (Funimation)
                  Scarlet Nexus (Funimation)
                  Sonny Boy (Funimation)
                  Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy (Crunchyroll)

Pretty much everything from Funimation is likely going to get a dub (plus the Aniplex shows they are streaming), especially with their backlog clearing out after going on a licensing spree until last spring. Of course, some of them might be batch releases for low-profile shows or something they want to outsource to NYAV or somewhere else. Sentai has three shows, one of them is obviously not going to get a dub (Tsukipro) and given their enthusiasm towards Getter Robo that I believe they will dub it, while the other show I'll explain in the tier below. As for the remaining Crunchyroll shows that weren't announced for simuldubs, I think Tsukimichi has the best case for a dub, so it remains to be seen if any more of their shows get dubs this season, whether commissioned by them or through another partner in Sentai, Viz, or Discotek.

                  50/50
                  Aquatope on White Sand (Crunchyroll)
The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated! (Crunchyroll)
The Idaten Deities Know Only Peace (Crunchyroll)
                  Kageki Shojo!! (Funimation)
Mother of the Goddess' Dormitory (Sentai)
                  Night Head 2041 (Crunchyroll)
                  Obey Me! (Funimation)
                  Peach Boy Riverside (Crunchyroll)
                  Remake Our Life! (Crunchyroll)
                  Seirei Gensouki: Spirit Chronicle (Crunchyroll)

Of the Funimation shows, Kageki Shojo and Obey Me! has a pretty low profile, so they would be the least likely to get them, though relatively speaking still more likely than not for dubs. Since Obey Me! is a short that it will be cheap to dub. And pretty much for most of the remaining Crunchyroll shows, they are coin flips as each of these has a pretty good case for dubs as either they have great reception (Aquatope, Remake our Life!), high marketability (Night Head, Peach Boy Riverside, Seirei Gensouki), or have a bit of both but not to levels that make them obvious bets (Great Jahy, Idaten Deities). And then there's Mother of the Goddess' Dormitory as while fanservice is generally a great selling point and this show is at least way better than Redo of Healer, it still is held back by its reception. So I have it at 50/50 given the trends.

                  Longshot
                  D_Cide Traumerei (Crunchyroll)
                  Drugstore in Another World (Crunchyroll)
                  Girlfriend, Girlfriend (Crunchyroll)

These three shows just are forgettable and something viewers are unlikely going to want to go out and buy BDs for. At least they have an outside shot due to the genres. But for the most part, don't count on it happening.

                  Not Happening
                  Idolish7 Third Beat (Crunchyroll)
                  Tsukipro Season 2 (Sentai)

Both of these shows have very low marketability, and although Idolish7 is actually a good show, this is part of a genre that just doesn't sell outside Japan.
