  • Otaku in Paris

Volume 1 of Otaku in Paris: 'Fu'rench Filles Journal (Story by Ōshimizu Sachi and art by Yasu. 'Fu' is written as '腐' of 'fujoshi'.) was released in April in Japan.
Otaku in Paris is a manga about four Parisiennes who are fans of anime and manga and enjoy chatting about otacky things at Le Club Otaku, their periodic tea party.
Do you want to become the protagonist of a manga about otaku which is set in 〔insert the name of your town〕?

I wonder how the translator will deal with the 2ch dialect used by Amélie, one of the four girls, if Otaku in Paris is translated into a non-Japanese language.

Hi guys, I was wondering if you are also familiar with some manhwa (Korean anime/manga)? I mean I definitely am into anime/manga, but I just came back from a couple of months Korea and discovered that they also have quite a large comic scene (called "manhwa") which seemed pretty good to me. Just wondering what you guys know about it and if you have some good tips maybe

The U.S. Government even sent some scientists to Japan in order to research Ika-musume. Perhaps the United States Government Publishing Office or the National Technical Information Service should get a licence for the Shinryaku! Ika-musume manga.
Anyway, I hope that a North American publishing firm will get a licence for Shinryaku! Ika-musume.

Good to see more Junji Ito licensed.

Wish I could be excited by the mention of Bakemonogatari, but the lack of clarity over what actually got acquired, leaves me fearing it's only the first novel. I hate when news like this hits and there's no official or trustworthy source to immediately provide detailed information. In truth, I'd be less pessimistic had the companies involved not decided to begin the North American editions with the third book written in the series (regardless of where it falls chronologically).

New novel announcement: BAKEMONOGATARI The volumes starting December 2016
Lovely that Vertical's own tweet remains somewhat ambiguous. I'm going to assume specifically stating Bakemonogatari along with "volumes" means we'll at least be receiving all the stories comprising the first two novels.

Hopefully the number of US books will be sensible (the references I keep seeing to the number three are off-putting) and that they'll maintain a tight release schedule. I reluctantly bought Kizumonogatari; I'm not sure I'll do the same, if December roles around and we're looking at six months to a year's worth of Bakemonogatari, without any word on further entries in the series being licensed.

At least the intention is to release them month-after-month. Now Vertical has almost a year to explain how and why this needs to be three separate books, instead of two. There are apparently a good number of Bakemonogatari short stories, some of which could make nice additions to the English volumes. I just hope we are looking at the possibility of extra content and not a less than consumer-friendly business plan.
