Which was never actually released in book form (the individual chapters had made it into the last few issues of Comic AG), or even solicited if I recall correctly, before Simon Jones became ill and the company faded away into de facto closure.

I actually have a copy, and just wanted to have it in hand to see what was up before posting. Based on the 2010 dates in the book, it seems as if the book may actually have been printed and prepped for solicitation and release before going unsold, and so the copies may have just been boxed up and stashed somewhere (thankfully not destroyed), until TRSI managed to unearth them and acquire them for sale, as they are so often able to mysteriously do with such things.
I picked up a copy of Tuna Empire's Sister Summer in the recent Right Stuf sale, which I believe is the other notable title Icarus didn't get out before going dark. The interesting thing is that the indicia lists a 2014 publishing and copyright date. Does anyone know what the deal is? Is Icarus back, or publishing through Right Stuf like Tokyopop?
I noticed that too. You're correct that Sister Summer is the one other title that was never released prior to Icarus' unannounced, indefinite hiatus, though unlike Witchcraft it was at least officially solicited.

As I understand it, its release now is neither a sign of Icarus' return to active business nor an indication of a Tokyopop-like POD situation with TRSI (and I'm sad that neither of those are the case), but I'm not privy to what the specific circumstances behind its essentially brand-new print status actually are. All I can assume is that its collected volume release was put on hold due to Simon Jones' health issues and Icarus' hiatus (it's worth noting that its chapters had all been published via the Comic AG pamphlet volumes by that point), that Simon still retained an active license and the production materials, and that he very recently found the means and the ability to bring the book to print, if perhaps only for a single batch that could then be sold through TRSI.

      • Tokyo Metropolitan Government designated a manga as an unwholesome book.

About Imōto Paradise! 2, the manga version of an ero game with the same title, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's Council for the Healthy Development of Youths said, 'It unreasonably praises incest and is very antisocial,' and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government decided that the manga should be designated as an unwholesome book. The law forbids selling the manga to people who are under 18.
Kadokawa, which published the manga, has not yet decided whether they will take exception to it.

SO I just saw on Facebook that Viz has Fate/Stay Night? When did this happen? It's under a "Viz Select" label and so far is looking to be digital only. I wonder if it'll come out printed?

They released a press release about this months viz select manga last week in their monthly write up for digital manga. This weeks viz Shonen Jump Podcast fielded a question about if the viz select tokyopop licenses would see a release beyond where tokyopop stopped the series and if they would come to print. Ultimately was concluded that it depended on the reception with how popular the digital versions will be.

Darn I know Viz is turning a new leaf with a lot of things, but I hate this sort of thinking! I'm not a digital customer, but a physical one. I won't be able to support it until it is printed, but I need to rely on the digital fanbase for that one.

I really don't understand that... Here's hoping enough people get digital copies. I mean, even print-on-demand models could work.

This was a sneaky stealth release. If you were at ACen 2014 and stopped by the Vertical booth, You could have purchased the latest volume, volume 9, of Knights of Sidonia. It won't make bookstores until next month. Also, had a good time talking manga with Ed. Was a great time.

It's sad that it took me this long to notice, but I did see Future Diary in Viz's manga app now. I'm excited that they will at least be putting it out digitally, and I'm hoping they will complete the series. I had one heck of a time hunting down all of the TokyoPop releases when they were shutting down operations, but I was able to get all volumes from 1 to 10. That being said, I do hope that Viz will put the manga back into print physically for the sake of completion. I can't say that I'd re-buy all of the the volumes I already have, but I would definitely be looking to grab the last few if they were to be put out. I'll just have to hope that the series does well digitally. Maybe a release from Funimation to Blu-ray for the series would stem up some interest in the series again, and influence the demand for the manga. That would certainly be a win-win for me, and that's all I can hope for.

                      News Regarding Project-H:

Didn't want to bump the old and kinda off-topic Project-H thread, but I figured this news might be worth mentioning for a few reasons.

I was rather surprised when I saw the company decided to license the book, Coffin of Cerebrum, by Tokihara Masato, since it contains both incest and shota-con (content Project-H states they will not publish).

I just happened to see over at ANN a chapter was removed due to "strong violence." Of course, delving into Project-H's various avenues for communication (original Facebook post), the related update on their forums confirms Chapter 4 was removed because it depicts sex with minors (based on legal precedent and for PR purposes, I guess one can claim this to be "violence" towards children).

Also worth noting, the ANN article currently suggests only the print edition is affected; unless I'm missing something, based on the official communiqué, this doesn't really seem to be the case, with both versions having the content removed.

As mentioned above, Project-H has also vaguely stated in the past they would not publish content with incestuous themes. Their forum admin posted the following comment in response to a chapter in the book that does feature siblings:
As far as the incest thing, that call was made by someone else and I disagree with it. The company before was working on the assumption that fictional incest was illegal in the U.S. and I have since corrected them on it. Because of that assumption, our company usually stayed away from incest manga, but I can safely tell you that we're changing that and I am personally pursuing manga with incest themes.
I won't be buying Coffin of Cerebrum, but depending on how they handle the incest chapter (meaning, whether the two are outright referenced as blood relations or just vague "prince" and "princess/queen"), I would at least be willing to support books without removed or censored material, as long as I no longer have to worry about content featuring adults having purposefully altered translations.

I have to say, I was disappointed to learn of the Coffin of Cerebrum issue (and even moreso that I can't even really go down the whole "they shouldn't have licensed it in the first place" road because of the apparent licensing particulars involved), but I'm taking as a positive the fact that it resulted in the above-quoted public declaration/clarification regarding incest content, and the hopeful future non-editing thereof.

Another US manga publisher enters the stage to address the Wanimagazine Hentai ero manga scene

                          Introducing, FAKKU Books!

When I created FAKKU seven years ago I never thought it would grow into the massive community that it has. I never thought we would be invited to speak at conventions in front of thousands of people. I never thought someone would draw porn of me in a horse head mask having sex with our mascot. And now I am excited to share the next big thing that I never thought would happen, starting today FAKKU is an official manga publisher.

We have entered into an exclusive partnership with Wanimagazine to release their catalog of hentai tankōbons and magazines in English. Tankōbons are the compiled works of an artist into a completed manga, specifically, it is the compilation of various individual chapters and it’s basically what you’ve been reading on FAKKU this whole time. We will be publishing them as both physical books and digital releases under the FAKKU name. These books will be coming directly from us; we will be handling the translation, editing, and everything else about the release (so you know it’s going to be awesome). I couldn't be more excited and proud that FAKKU is a part of something this big.

Oh, did I forget to mention that all of our releases will be completely uncensored? No more black bars. No more mosaics. And these won't be redraws, these are the original uncensored versions coming directly from the artists.
fakku.net but the site is pretty nsfw

                            Well, that's certainly interesting.

In general, it'll be good to see another US publisher of adult manga, and Wanimagazine's catalog is definitely of more interest to me than the majority what is being licensed by DMP/Project-H. At the very least, FAKKU's three initial planned releases have my attention, so hopefully things will go well with this partnership.

All I can say is...ho...ly...shit . I never thought the day would come that Wanimagazine's catalog would be available in English. Wani is easily the most represented publisher in my imported ero manga library, and they publish the work of many of my favorite ero mangaka like Homunculus, Hisasi, Kisaragi Gunma, Cuvie, Thomas, Tosh, and Hanaharu Naruko, to name a few. It'll be great to finally have their work in English, uncensored. The press release on FAKKU's website mentions that these will be their first four releases:

                              Renai Sample by Homunculus
                              TiTiKEi by Ishikei
                              Punikano by PyonKti
Welcome to Tokoharusou by Kisaragi Gunma
Heh, the only one of the four I haven't already imported (but would have eventually) is TiTiKEi, but assuming the technical aspects of their releases are satisfactory, it'll be great to finally be able to own these books in English. I'm so happy .
