Hopefully FUNimation will bring these over here. Their current DVDs are just rips of the ancient Pioneer DVDs and don't look great at all. I especially love Tenchi Universe, and it deserves better.

These are just SD on BD, presumably based on the old R2 masters (dunno about Tokyo but Universe was composite IIRC) so they won't be much of an upgrade, but will probably be at least a bit better than old FUNi DVDs.

That's an absolute shame. I agree with Purple Warrior that Universe at the very least deserves a solid BD remaster.

Yeah, I'm especially disappointed because I recently purchased this cel from the OP and was enthralled by the rich colors and details that I will now never see on my TV.

According to the Amazon.jp description, they are from the DVD masters. Though whether there's a difference between the original R2 DVDs or the 'Rondo Robe Selection's, I don't know. Unsure how both those DVD releases also compare to the 10th Anniversary DVDs either. Yeah...hard to believe (or remember by most) there was a compilation that priced more than what Aniplex or PonyCanyon ever released. I believe Pioneer used the same masters for the R1 Ultimate Edition DVD boxset, so I'm curious if this upscale will be just re-using the transfer from the R2 10th Anniversary box, which iirc, were component (at least the OVAs appeared to be, so I'm hoping TV1 series at least got the same treatment).

hah...10th Anniversary. How time flies..... never mind these commemorative 25th Anniversary SDBDs....five more years and it'll be the 30th. Hopefully by then they'll have Universe and MSPS in proper HD. 4K would be nice, but I doubt there's anything left they can re-scan and composite to that resolution, which likely doesn't mean much since 2K is pretty much the effective limit for 16mm without magnifying the inherent grain (not that it's a bad thing) and whatever other dirt, hair, scratches, in the process.
