Checked out a couple episodes. There?s some DNR, but it?s not too bad IMO, grain is still there but just a bit reduced and blobby. Maybe about the same as G Gundam. Not the best 16mm on Blu-ray, but still a significant upgrade from DVD, even in City Hunter?s case where the R2s were already from component remasters.

Good to hear. Still a bit of a shame, but glad it's not completely wiped of grain.

My box is still showing as released from customs but hasn't moved since so I probably won't receive until tomorrow.

Some parts look a bit more DNRed than others, but since I'll be re-encoding to put on my Plex server, I can mask most of that up with a film grain script.

On another note, Buster are you gonna go see the new movie in theaters? Would love to see that on the big screen.

I usually don't bother going to see something in the theater because I have a projector, but I might go see it if word of mouth is good. I seem to remember hearing that the mokkoriness will be turned down in order to not offend certain people, but I could be wrong.

Just got in the season 2 box set. Will try to post a few pics here, but I expect it's going to look about the same as S1 with respect to DNR.

As for extras, it's another framed art picture and a CD case with what looks like postcard pictures.

So how did the second series turn out? Was looking forward to hearing more. I wonder if Discotek will get do their own encode with the masters, and perhaps use less dnr.

It's pretty similar to the first season. It's been degrained but it's not horrible. I'd choose the BDs over the DVDs hands down.

It would be interesting if Discotek didn't use any DNR. My issue with them mostly is their compression is never quite as good. Things look too compressed merely to save a few bucks on having an extra disc or two in a box set. For example, I can buy a 20 pack of Sony BD-50s from Japan for around 300 yen a pop and there's no way they are paying more for a disc than I would be paying retail.
