  • [DVD/BD] [JP/HK/TW/KR] DVD/Blu-ray Release List with [EngSub] and/or [EngDub]

    Widgets Magazine
    Google Docs table link

The table is still work in progress. The table at the moment is broken down to five categories:
    • Japan (Blu-ray)
    • Japan (DVD)
    • Hong Kong (DVD & Blu-ray)
    • Taiwan (DVD & Blu-ray)
    • Korea (DVD & Blu-ray)

Release titles in BOLD indicate release is unavailable in the U.S.

Please point any errors and omissions in this thread. Suggestions are also welcomed.

      Since you do this:

Release titles in BOLD indicate release is unavailable in the U.S.
Would it be a good idea to indicate the release that have a Blu-ray version in the U.S.?

My intent was to make releases that don't have N. American releases stand out on the table.

Suggestion: List if the blu-ray is HD Native or Upscale.

I can't find the thread for this so...

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya checklist:
              English subtitles? Check
              English dub? Check
              Onscreen Japanese text subtitles? NOPE
This was sort of a deal breaker for me. I enjoy watching anime in English, so when I read this had the English dub, I jumped on it. It was then that I realized how much Japanese text is in the series and there is no subtitle track specifically for translating that (referring to computer screen conversations, notes, etc). And why didn't anyone warn me about the quality of the 2006 episodes!? Looks like I'll be rewatching Haruhi on the US dvds in the future.

I guess the point is, a Japanese blu-ray may have an English dub, but it can still be inaccessible to English viewers.

I think this is a great thread idea. It will be very useful for trying to find which releases in Japan contain English subs and/or dubs for people looking to import who can't understand Japanese.

It might be worth noting if there is a US Blu-ray release for them or not, like Damius suggests, due to the issues involving Kadokawa, as I could imagine that would be a reason people might look to import a version with subs or a dub. My suggestion would be to color the title blue if it's not available on BD in the US.

Also I have to ask why Strike Witches season 1 is in bold, but season 2 is not. Shouldn't it be the other way around now that s2 is on hiatus, and s1 is soon to be released even with a Blu-ray this time?

Thanks for the suggestion. I will keep that in mind, but for now I'm still sticking with bold black.

That's because I haven't updated the table since the FUNi July solicitations. I'm leaving S2 as it is until we get a formal confirmation from FUNimation (likely in the form of solicitation).

Not to get off topic but yeah they animation quality goes from awful to great and then back to awful again. I did however notice the fact that after episode 4, DVD order, that the quality did improve slightly over the previous episodes. So I guess your point is that it is not worth spending the money on give the quality of the 2006 is not that good?

Not creating a thread for this one. Korean BD release of Hoshi o ou kodomo includes English subtitles. Release date is 11/1/2012. LE includes 16 page booklet and slipcase.

Macross Plus is getting a remasted BD release with English sub & dub. Although the tile section of the listing on CD Japan doesn't describe the release as having English sub/dub, the details section lists both sub & dub. http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=BCXA-719

Existing thread can be found here.

The issue is with the vagueness of the listing and how you interpret it.

That to me is OVA having the English dub with Japanese subtitles. For some reason it doesn't mention the Japanese dub. Bandai Visual listing leans toward the same way. It seems more to me as an inaccurate translation by CDJapan.

UPDATE: I inquired about the specs via email with Bandai Visual yesterday and got a response. It can be summed out below:

Macross Plus OVA includes both English and Japanese audio with Japanese subtitles (can be turned off). English subtitles is NOT included.

Macross Plus Movie Edition includes only the Japanese audio (original & new 5.1 channel mix). English subtitles is NOT included.

According to This video, Library War - The Wings of Revolution has English subtitles. Forgive me for not searching for the thread if there is one. I just noticed it was not included on the list yet.

It actually is already on the list, as "Toshokan Sensou: Kakumei no Tsubasa (Library War: The Wings of Revolution)".
