Specifically noted as an upscale from SD materials in the product description on the Toei Video page. Another in the growing list of Toei upscales... I've got plenty in my backlog right now but I might've picked it up eventually if this was in true HD.

This is a great show from the little I've seen (the opening theme is really nice), I hope we get it properly released here in the states, even on DVD, same with the 2001 series.

Upscale aside, any idea why the first series is being skipped? I'm aware that it's from 1968 & that it was done in black & white but that can't be the only reason can it?

Would Blu-ray really that much of an upgrade for a black and white TV cartoon (especially via an upscale)? I'm aware that black and white films benefit greatly from HD, and the 1930s Betty Boop cartoons are on Blu-ray, and while those look great, I can't imagine it would really do much for 009. Toei would probably do an upscale anyway, and I highly doubt the show would see much if any improvement from it. I've seen the first few episodes, and it's a great retro anime, but I'm not expecting to ever see it in HD.

Also, I would imagine the 2001 version was animated in digital SD, and would need an upscale to be viewed in HD.
