For the agent known as "Twilight," no order is too tall if it is for the sake of peace. Operating as Westalis' master spy, Twilight works tirelessly to prevent extremists from sparking a war with neighboring country Ostania. For his latest mission, he must investigate Ostanian politician Donovan Desmond by infiltrating his son's school: the prestigious Eden Academy. Thus, the agent faces the most difficult task of his career: get married, have a child, and play family.

Twilight, or "Loid Forger," quickly adopts the unassuming orphan Anya to play the role of a six-year-old daughter and prospective Eden Academy student. For a wife, he comes across Yor Briar, an absent-minded office worker who needs a pretend partner of her own to impress her friends. However, Loid is not the only one with a hidden nature. Yor moonlights as the lethal assassin "Thorn Princess." For her, marrying Loid creates the perfect cover. Meanwhile, Anya is not the ordinary girl she appears to be; she is an esper, the product of secret experiments that allow her to read minds. Although she uncovers their true identities, Anya is thrilled that her new parents are cool secret agents! She would never tell them, of course. That would ruin the fun.

Under the guise of "The Forgers," the spy, the assassin, and the esper must act as a family while carrying out their own agendas. Although these liars and misfits are only playing parts, they soon find that family is about far more than blood relations.

    Episode 1

    When they're here, they're family.

And thus it begins with the guy known as Twilight taking on the fake name of Loid Forger (which is quite an appropriate name seeing that Loid comes from tabloid where lots of nasty rumors and gossips tend to appear on and it's spelled that way and not Lloyd, while it's pretty obvious where Forger comes from) needing to have a family in order to infiltrate a school for his mission. So he finds himself a daughter, a girl born in a lab who had been adopted and disowned four times due to her untamable telepathic powers, and she's the perfect child for Loid's mission. But at the same time, it proved to be problematic at first seeing that with her mind reading ability, Loid can't exactly hide anything from her. It's a good thing Loid is quite resourceful there, wearing a disguise, and then stuffing the place with flour to prevent those thugs from firing their weapons. Great start this show is off to as this was one of the most anticipated new shows since Demon Slayer. Next time, it's off to find a wife since both "parents" are needed for the next course of action.

As always, trial period, though that's just a formality given this show's tremendous profile and everything.

      Episode 2

Until mission accomplished do they part.

Here comes the mother for this faux family as she is needed in order to get Anya enrolled into the academy so that Loid can take down Desmond and avert a major crisis. After doing a search, it was love at first sight as Yor is also a formidable assassin herself. And further showing that they belong with each other, Yor stopped that tray in its tracks when some bitch threw it at her. And then they become husband and wife, at least for now with that wedding using a grenade pin as a wedding ring. Great stuff once again going to show just how hyped up this show is, and this episode continues to justify it.

        Re: Episodes 1 & 2

I started reading the manga the first week it came out, but didn't get too into it for a simple reason: It was so freaking good, I could envision anime studios knocking down the mangaka's door and having a bidding war for the rights. and as great as the manga was, I knew this was going to be unbelievable if even a seni-decent, half-assed studio got it.

They've knocked this out the freaking park with a grand slam homerun, with perfect voice casting, fantastic visuals...

The point is this: If you're not watching this show, you should be.

I've been reading each chapter of the manga since it became available and loving it the whole time. I couldn't wait for an anime adaptation and when it was announced to be coming from Wit Studio, CloverWorks, and Kazuhiro Furuhashi, I thought it couldn't be in better hands. Now that it's underway, it's even better than I could've hoped for. The best of a season with Kaguya-sama. Amazing.

            Episode 3

They're now one big happy family.

Now that Loid has formed his faux family, preparations are underway for the interview. They take Anya to the art museum, and then to the tailor to get Yor a presentable outfit, and then to the photo studio to get a family photo as quite a lot is riding on this. Seeing that Anya is telepathic could get quite troublesome, but at least it saved the day when it's thanks to that ability that Loid was able to take down that thief that snatched some old lady's wallet away. This show just continues to be amazing as it does an excellent job in balancing action with family time, and it was definitely more appropriate to focus on family life here seeing that I get the sense that Loid and Yor will get married for real in the end with Anya officially adopted.

              Watching their every move.

And thus, it's time for the interview for this faux family to get Anya into Eden College's elementary school, and there's a lot more to the admissions process than just the written exam and the interview. As it turns out, the interview process starts as soon as the families walk onto campus on their way to the interview where they are met with obstacles to weed out the unworthy. First there's a boy stuck in the mud where saving him means dirtying their clothes and automatic disqualification, and Loid was prepared with a spare change of clothes. Then there's a pack of wild farm animals running through the place, though that was unintended. And then the interview itself where those housemasters ask some really sensitive questions, though with Swan he asks some rather insensitive stuff. Swan is quite the douchebag there that got Loid to threaten him, but even Henderson realizes that what Swan was doing was uncalled for. And with that out of the way, the family sits and wait not expecting to pass after the stunt Loid pulled off, but it looks like Henderson is going to have his way. Quite an intense interview process that was, and it's all great stuff once again.

                Episode 5

                Eden awaits Anya.

Just when it looked like Anya failed, it turns out that she was the first in line on the waiting list, and not long after the results were announced Anya got the call that she made it. And with that, they party, and then set up a stage to reenact a scene from Spy Wars. And that was quite a show they put on there, especially the part where Yor is fighting drunk. Pretty amusing episode that was as Yor is quite lively when she is drunk, all while Anya continues to be everything that Loid wants in a daughter for the sake of Operation Strix.

                  Episode 6

                  Imperial Scholar or bust.

Now that Anya is in, the next step in the scheme is going to be much more difficult in that in order to get into Desmond's head, Anya will need to become an Imperial Scholar, which requires academic excellence and while Anya is smart, she's also unpredictable that makes things quite worrisome for Loid. Case in point, Anya punched Desmond's son Damian when he was about to bully a friend she just made, and it's a good thing she was able to spin that off as protecting a friend as that would have otherwise been quite a big penalty. Nevertheless, there's another route in that by becoming friends with Damian, that puts him closer to his target as well. That was some great drama there, and while Anya has quite a daunting task ahead of her, at least she's letting everybody know that she isn't taking things lying down. So with phase 1 complete, phase 2 is going to be quite difficult, especially since Anya's judgment can't be trusted.

                    Episode 7

                    Daughter first, mission second.

This episode serves as a reality check for Loid as he tries to get her to make up with Damian, but Anya's apology is rejected. And then he has her hitting the books there, which Anya is none too pleased about. As much as he is dedicated to his mission, he doesn't realize that he needs to treat Anya as her daughter, rather than a means to an end. While he has his mission and world peace rests on it, it's also important to treat Anya like a daughter and not a tool for his mission.

I wouldn't say it's rejected. Rather, it's a case of Loid thinking that it was a rejection, when in reality Damian has gone tsundere for Anya. 😘

                        Episode 8

                        Brother is a big bother.

Here comes Yor's younger brother Yuri, and he's a member of the secret police who is out to take down Twilight, which is going to be quite a big problem for Loid if Yuri finds out his true identity and that his relationship with Yor is fake. Seeing him making an unanticipated visit really puts Loid in a tight spot seeing that he needs to have the appearance of a normal family. While Loid was able to deduce that Yuri is a member of the secret police, Yuri is not somebody who can be easily fooled, and case in point was that hand-touching reaction that a married couple is not supposed to make. So it all comes down to Loid and Yor kissing each other as Yuri's test to prove that they are a couple. Quite a lot of drama here seeing that Yuri has a sharp mind and it's not exactly easy to slip anything past him, especially since he has lived a traumatizing life with his parents being killed, and his big sister being an assassin.

                          Episode 9

                          How real is this love?

In the end, Yuri ended up getting a slap from a drunk Yor as despite asking them to kiss to prove that they are a couple, he gets in the way and is sent flying. Even though he doesn't recognize the marriage, at least he accepts Loid in a way. Realizing that Yor might have connections with the secret police that Loid spies on Yor and disguises himself and Franky as officers to question Yor. So pretty much, all suspicious of Yor has been cleared up and they can continue living as themselves for the duration of Operation Strix. Pretty funny stuff that was, from that punch to the questioning with Yor not realizing that it was just Loid in disguise all along.

                            There's no dodging this guy.

And now, it's time for the dodgeball tournament, and an opportunity for Anya to get a star by being the MVP of the game based on what Loid has been hearing. So Anya is whipped up into shape as Yor works her quite hard. Then comes the game where Anya's class faces long odds seeing that on the other team is Bazooka Bill, who looks like an adult but is actually only 6 years old. Bill is quite powerful there seeing that he singlehandedly carried the class. Anya was at least able to dodge those throws with her mind-reading, but when it came to throwing back, she just doesn't have the strength to do it. In the end, it wouldn't have mattered as this was merely an exhibition match and if anything, Bill was going to be penalized with a bolt for his vulgar language for what was supposed to be just a fun time to be had. Amusing stuff once again as it goes to show that there are plenty of screws loose with this family.

Seeing stars for the first time.

While Anya has a foot in the door, unfortunately she's not only struggling to do stuff to earn the stars, but she's not exactly motivated to do so. Her test scores are terrible, her athletic ability is lacking, and she finds community service to be boring. But in spite of all that, she did earn a star as she helped save a drowning kid after he fell into the swimming pool, and doing so quietly in a way so that the adults didn't notice him falling. But Anya's mind-reading ability saved the day, all while Loid rescued those two himself. It was a rather lucky break for Anya seeing that her motivation is just hopelessly in the wrong place, but she did earn a star for noticing somebody's life in danger utilizing her ability to read minds to do so. And thus, she asks for a dog for her reward, but that won't be fulfilled until the second half as the next episode, the last one before the show goes on break, has Anya going to an aquarium rather than heading off to a pet shop to get her new best friend.
