Tamahiko Shima is the youngest son of the powerful and wealthy Shima family. Blessed with great fortune since his childhood, he grew up wanting nothing but affection from his oftentimes distant family.

After losing his mother and crippling his dominant arm in an accident, Tamahiko fell into deep despair and is cast aside by his own father for his handicap. Condemned to live isolated in the countryside where he would not bring shame to his family's name, he resigned himself to dying alone—until one day, a young girl named Yuzuki Tachibana appeared on his doorstep, proclaiming that Tamahiko's father sent her to be his bride.

As she takes care of Tamahiko, Yuzuki brings a feeling of springtime into Tamahiko's dreary life, allowing him to gradually heal from the deep emotional scars of his youth. Their lives slowly intertwine as both Tamahiko and Yuzuki taste the fruits of their first love.

    Episode 1

Banished from the main family, he decided to live a quiet life in the countryside.

So it begins with Tamahiko explaining how he had it all, and then lost it in the blink of an eye as he was involved in an accident that killed his mother and left him with a paralyzed arm. While it was unfortunate, even more so was that his family cast him out as the black sheep and would be exiled to the countryside. With his life an utter mess that Tamahiko could think about nothing but despair and pessimism. But that all changed when Yuzuki arrived, and it turns out she was bought off by his family as her family needed the money with the hope that she would marry into wealth. And thus, this cute romance begins as Yuzuki sure does everything a housewife is supposed to do and is very good at it. She's on the complete opposite end of the spectrum compared to Tamahiko as she's very optimistic and really loves him. The ball is in Tamahiko's court to requite those feelings, but at the moment he needs to get use to her antics. It's off to a great start here as seeing that the show has some great source material that I was so looking forward to this show, and so far it has delivered. The big test comes when the other girls arrive at his humble abode.

As usual, the trial process will run it's course before making any final decision.

      Episode 2

      Living Dead.

In light of his accident and subsequent exile to the countryside, Tamahiko gets a notice by his father that from hereon out, he considered to be dead. This gets him all upset and thinking about dying for real with his pessimistic attitude. On the other hand, Yuzu considers herself to be dead to her family as a way for her family to get their minds off of her, and unlike with Tamahiko it's a burden lifted off of her. So with that, the two end up making the trek to Tokyo after accidentally ruining her kimono where Yuzu buys material to make a new one. And while they are there, the two of them explore the city, and Yuzu's curiosity really is something. Those two sure are getting along with each other quite well and things with just the two of them have been going really well. But there's another guest coming as Tamahiko's sister Tamayo is moving in, and she sees this villa as a family vacation home rather than Tamahiko's humble abode. Those two don't exactly see eye-to-eye with each other, so it will be interesting to see how things play out now that there's somebody else moving in to interrupt the lovey-dovey life that Tamahiko and Yuzu are living.

        Episode 3

        Like brother, like sister.

Here comes Tamako, and she's somebody who Tamahiko doesn't exactly get along with. As it turns out, Tamako is not on good terms with her father as he's the principal of the all-girls school she attends, and the girls are all mean to her. So she decided that she wanted to get away from it all, and that led her to move out into the countryside, far away from everything. While that's going on, Yuzu takes Tamahiko out for a nature walk, getting him to realize that there's so much great stuff that's just a short walk away. And then Yuzu talks with Tamako over it, and just like that her outlook greatly improves seeing that she made a great friend. Quite a nice way to introduce Tamako there as all she needed to do was talk out her problems with somebody she can trust, which have been few and far between. Looks like things will take an ominous turn next time as there's something wrong with Yuzu in the previews.

          Episode 4

There are some things money can't buy.

It's summer, and Yuzu is hard at work as usual, but then she collapses and is bedridden with a fever. It's a good thing that Tamako is around seeing that she knows what to do in a situation like this unlike with Tamahiko as all he would do is panic. So the doctors come in and check her out, all while giving Tamahiko a scolding seeing that they think he has been overworking her like a slave, all while he thinks he can just solve all of his problems with money. And then things appear to have gotten really bad when Yuzu is having difficulty breathing with a bloodied bandage, but it turns out that she was just wearing a really tight bandage to cover her big bust. So after some resting up, Yuzu is good as new again. There was quite a lot of drama there seeing that all it amounted to was Yuzu overexerting herself, and while an outsider would think that it's because of Tamahiko barking orders and stuff, everything was done on Yuzu's own volition. That was a clever fake-out there, and in the end it goes to show the differences between the residents inside the villa.

And on that note, the trial period is over, and being one of the shows I was eagerly anticipating this season, of course it's going to make the cut for this season's watchlist.

            More than just a bookmark.

After spending some time with Tamahiko, Tamako is off to Kobe to live with her uncle. So with Tamako having moved out, it's just Tamahiko and Yuzu once again as it just so happens to be Tamahiko's birthday. Of course having never received any present that Tamahiko wasn't expecting anything. But Yuzu found out from his sister. So after going out on a shopping trip, Yuzu gifts a handmade bookmark for him seeing that he loves to read. Little did he know that there was another girl who had been stalking him as Ryo breaks in, shatters the jar of caramels, and makes off with his wallet and birthday present. While Tamahiko isn't so upset about his wallet being stolen, having his present stolen is another matter entirely. Ryo sure made quite the entrance there sneaking into Tamahiko's room with the cat, and then pickpocketing him.

              Episode 6

There are some things that can't be replaced.

As it turns out, Ryo's father is the reason why she's doing all these awful things seeing that he's squandering the family's finances to drink lots of booze while doing nothing to help out the family, and Ryo has to shoulder that burden. So Tamahiko goes to the house to get the bookmark back, and in doing so he helps tutor Ryo's little brother and sister. And then things get really confrontational when Ryo goes to return it as it turned into a heated argument with Yuzu tearing it up in order to get them to stop fighting. And then Tamahiko puts it back together and learns the importance of the bellflower that Yuzu chose for it, and it's to symbolize her unchanging love, though it has another meaning as well. While I get Ryo's circumstances, that's still no excuse for her confrontational behavior. In any case, it's quite nice to see that Tamahiko is at least doing something to help others, and this turns into an opportunity for him to contribute by being a tutor seeing that he's a smart guy who would make a great teacher if it weren't for his pessimistic outlook.

                Episode 7

                Try new things.

Seeing how helpful that Tamahiko was to Ryo's siblings that other kids start to turn to him for tutoring, and he's finding it fulfilling. After that experience, Ryotaro decides that he wants to go to Tokyo to work, though he's not quite sure what to think about him leaving his family. But after running away and being found by Tamahiko and Ryo, his big sister talks some sense into him and to give him her blessing. Quite a nice way to turn Ryo's character around here knowing full well that her no-good father has put a lot of strain on her. And on that note, Tamahiko is going to return to school in the spring, so that's some more nice development on his part as well. And while Yuzu just turned 15 and is old enough to legally get married, Tamahiko isn't ready yet. Next time, the last girl shows up as Kotori is one of Tamahiko's classmates in school.

                  Episode 8

                  Turn lies into truths.

Tamahiko is back in school after taking the last two years off. There, he becomes friends with another fellow transfer student in Haraku, whose twin sister Kotori is a famous musician. While the other kids are quick to write him off for being a member of the infamous Shima family, Haraku is being more down to earth here. And afterwards, Kotori decides to move in as she becomes close friends with Yuzu. Very lighthearted episode here as things are all bright and happy with Kotori around as opposed to the last girl that dropped by the house. Haraku is just the friend that Tamahiko needs as he needs somebody who will encourage him to turn his lie into truth as while his love for Yuzu isn't exactly genuine, he does have the ability to make it so.
