A show set in a place where music has been all but erased from the world thanks to some alien invaders, but a group of girls who were not affected are fighting back to save the world and bring the music back.

    Airs: Tuesday, October 5, 2021

In the story of the anime, one day a black meteorite fell on the world, and the world completely changed. The meteorite produced grotesque monsters called D2, which started running rampant. D2 very quickly banned all music, which was the one thing able to overcome them. But there were some people who resisted the D2. They are young women who hold the power of music, the "Musicart." These young women hold "scores" that are able to defeat the monsters. And there are also people who lead these women, the Conductor.

The anime takes place in America in the year 2047, which has fallen to ruin thanks to the D2. Takt, a Conductor, is partnered with a Musicart named Unmei. Takt yeans for music to be returned to the world, and Unmei wishes to destroy the D2. Their aim is to travel to New York.

Don't like the sound of this.

So it begins with Takt playing the piano that attracts some D2 aliens, and then he picks up his conductor baton and power up his trusty assistant Cosette, also known as the the warrior Destiny, and she takes it out. Then they travel with Anna to a D2 nest somewhere in a remote area where with Cosette's superhero strength she carries out a piano and sets up for Takt to draw out the D2s there for Cosette to fight. So far, there's not much of a story to go on, but the action is nicely animated. I'm hoping that a substantial story will develop moving forward, but in the meantime, it has made a solid enough first impression through its visual presentation, something that Madhouse and MAPPA are known for.

As usual, the trial period rules are in effect, and seeing that there are only two standard-length shows on Tuesday that all it needs to do is be better than the other Tuesday show to make the cut.

      This isn't a garage band.

And now, Takt's history is explained as he, Anna, and Cosette are living at his house in New York. Ever since Takt's father died, he hasn't been willing to perform in front of an audience, opting to only play in the garage of his home. So Cosette is changing all that by secretly taking his piano and moving it to the festival grounds where the Symphonia Party is taking place. Cosette tries to perform, but in comes Takt after seeing that she isn't exactly playing something appropriate for the occasion. The music was great, especially with the duet of Sing, Sing, Sing. Normally, this would be a joyous occasion, but with the D2s attracted to music, not so much. And the ending there, that explains why Takt loses his right arm when Cosette transforms into Destiny as it becomes a conductor's baton to power Destiny. Great stuff so far as the production team spared no expense here with great animation, but above all music to fit the mood and situation.

        It's his Destiny to conduct.

Here comes Lenny and his musicart Titan, and those two really leave their mark. Takt has quite a lot to learn about being a conductor, starting with the fact that by becoming a musicart Cosette now goes by Destiny. And then a D2 attacks, and Destiny ends up bulldozing Takt's house to defeat it. Seeing that he has no home to return to after that, it's a good time to go on a journey. Lots of info dumping here, and it's all stuff that's going to be important to know down the line seeing that Destiny is not a normal musicart.

And with that seeing that it's clear and obvious that this is way better than the other Tuesday show that this has scored a spot on my watchlist.

          Episode 4

What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.

Takt and company have arrived in what is no longer fabulous Las Vegas to snuff out some D2s, and what used to be a bustling gambling haven is now a bunch of corn fields that are somehow thriving in the middle of the desert, all while the Strip has been abandoned. While most of the casinos have shuttered, there are still some in operation, and one of them happens to have a D2 hiding in it. But unlike the last time Takt and Destiny fought a D2 that resulted in Takt's house going bye-bye, this time Takt effectively conducts her to defeat the D2s without causing widespread collateral damage. This was certainly one of the weaker episodes, but even so the fighting was still nice. And on that note, Lenny and Titan are going their separate ways.

Getting to the Big Easy won't be easy.

After taking care of the D2s in Vegas, the next stop is New Orleans. They just so happen to run into the Symphonia company along the way as they meet Shindler and his Musicarts Walkure and Hell. Seeing that they are headed for Houston that they travel there together before parting ways in Houston. Even though they two are fighting D2s, they definitely have some sinister plan cooked up, and by ditching Walkure after she helped Destiny defeat those D2s is proof of that. And then there's Hell as she shows just how sadistic she is in grinding up that giant D2, and the name definitely fits her personality. Then it ends with Shindler offering Takt a position to join Symphonia, but he predictably refuses as there's just no way he would fit in with them, not with the way they conduct business. That was quite an encounter there making it obvious who the bad guys that Takt will be dealing with at the end. In the meantime, it's onto the birthplace of jazz.

              Episode 6

              Where there's a piano, he'll be there.

After a few action-packed episodes, this one is a breather as Takt, Anna, and Cossette make it to New Orleans where there's no jazz being performed thanks to the D2s. Some big revelations are made here as Takt's father was quite famous as he would frequently visit the Cresent City, and Takt has the ability to find grand pianos wherever they might be hidden. And there, he plays Rhapsody in Blue. While that's going on Anna is mistaken for Maria, who is Sally's late daughter after she was killed by D2s, and Sally refuses to believe that she is dead. While that's going on, the NY Symphonica is entering the next phase of their grand scheme, and whatever it is Takt needs to become a master Maestro in order for them to pull it off. Pretty nice way to chill here as those three definitely needed a break from fighting D2s.

                  Don't say her name.

Takt's mind has only been on composing a new song ever since leaving New Orleans as Cossette is being more human, all while Anna stops calling her by her name. And then comes a big revelation there at the end as it turns out Schindler had been the one behind those D2 attacks as he used Hell's powers to attract D2s with the mission being to wipe out the weak and leaving only the strong ones left, all while it was him who was behind that D2 invasion that killed Cossette. I had a feeling Schindler was up to something, and Sagan even acknowledged it when he told Schindler not to interfere with Takt. From the look of things, his plan is to make Takt so angry so that he can awaken his powers that go out of control and carry out his mission to weed out the weaklings that remain in this world. Whatever the case may be, Takt will need to calm down before he becomes a monster even worse than Schindler as his rage is such a huge threat.

                    Episode 8

                    Conductor misconduct.

Takt and Destiny nearly bit the dust there for making irrational decision. First, there's Takt trying to fight back in his condition, but he only stands to hurt himself by doing so and Destiny took him away to make him snap out of it. Then after recovering a bit Destiny decides to fight alone and realizes that she just doesn't stand a chance without Takt. And then there's Lenny and Titan as Lenny had been investigating Schindler and found out that he has been up to no good. And then it was all settled when Heaven came in to tell Schindler that he has been dismissed and as such Hell is no longer under his command. Schindler was just a straight-faced cookie cutter villain who was way to simple to read, and I get the feeling here that the main baddy is Sagan, who is using the D2s in some shady way that will threaten humanity, and he's much more sophisticated about it. In any case, the battle left quite a toll on Takt as his arm is starting to truly fall off. Good to see that cooler heads prevailed in the end when it looked like things were going to get out of hand.

                      Episode 9

                      Don't start the music.

Takt has finally arrived in New York City, where the Symphonica organization is headquartered and where music has not returned. There, he meets Anna's sister Charlotte, who is a scientist for the Symphonica, and upon examining Takt and Destiny, because Destiny is an incomplete Musicart that Takt conducting her has been eating away at his body as the scars from using his right arm as a baton are getting nastier with each use. And then there's another D2 invasion as Destiny heard the tuning fork that attracts them, but before they go out they get a phone call from Lenny as he learned some top secret information that will shake everything up. It involves Takt's father and the Boston incident, and what it is will be revealed next time.

I have a feeling that Sagan is the mastermind behind everything, and Takt's father was a thorn in his grand scheme, so he eliminated him and did so in a way to deflect the blame onto his family. Whatever it is, there's no question that Sagan will be the main villain in this show as there have been plenty of hints dropped from Sagan taking D2 corpses to him disposing Schindler when it became clear that he wasn't going to be his obedient pawn anymore. And him being a hero is just a publicity stunt to mask his true intentions. And the death flag has been raised for Lenny seeing that things are not looking so well on his end. Should be quite a dramatic finish that's being set up.
