    Episode 1

Girls just want to have fun.

I didn't think that there would be another season as the second season, as short as it was with the story only spanning half a cour, pretty much ended with humanity left alone to preserve their home world with Shinju-sama's divine protection gone. But with that ending there the girls are once again called upon as something came up that Yuna and the others are needed for. What that is is something for another day, but in the meantime the girls are all having fun, and it's pretty crazy to see how fun they can have now that their duty as heroes is complete. Or so they thought. From forming a band to singing karaoke, playing survival games and going camping, those girls sure know how to have fun. Of course, it wasn't meant to last, and it will be interesting to see where things go from here now they are being summoned again.

      Episode 2

There's more than one way to be a hero.

And now, an episode that features the new characters of this series, with the focus on Mebuki, who trained hard to become a hero, but was passed over in favor of Karin even though she did everything she could, and would have been her instructor's choice had it been up to her. She still hasn't forgotten about that, and as such she's back to prove that she's more than qualified to be a hero. The girls who weren't chosen are back, and this time they are going beyond the barrier to take back the world, starting with planting a sapling. And then they get attacked by Stardusts, but thanks to Mebuki's leadership everybody survived. Mebuki sure did prove her worth there and while she's not a hero, she's still a valuable comrade to have around at a time like this.

        Episode 3

        What is she fighting for?

It's now clear that this season is adapting the side story featuring Mebuki as the MC, and this story takes place between the first and second seasons of the main series happening in nearby Ehime. So in the end, Mebuki got mixed reviews as a commander as while she did avoid casualties from the last battle, unfortunately the army of sentinels has been dwindling as many of these girls are finding out just how much pressure there is for the job. Mebuki is none too pleased that sentinels are being seen as disposable commodities. So with a day off, Mebuki gets to know Aya better, and then she reveals that she is set to become a sacrifice. The situation has really turned for Mebuki as she went from wanting to be a hero to now doing whatever he can to save her friends. It's no wonder why she was snubbed in favor of Karin as she's not the kind of hero that would fit in with what the Shinjuu had in mind.

          Episode 4

          Die another day.

And thus, Mebuki's story ends as this battle against the Stardusts goes to show why she wasn't fit to be the chosen hero. She may be a great at strategizing, but when it comes to keeping calm under pressure, that's where she fails. Yumiko ends up getting critically injured, but Yumiko is one tough girl there seeing that she was still able to contribute despite her state that would knock her out for three days. As it turns out, the side story is short, and it's back to the main story at hand as it picks up right where the first episode ends as Togo was a favor. And by that, she's being told to become a sacrifice so that nobody else ever has to be one. She's fine with it as long as her existence is erased from everybody else's minds, but then she meets Gin in the afterlife, who tells her that it's way too soon for her to die. While Yuna and friends don't remember her, they do know that something's missing, and as such they save her. While it made for some interesting drama, right now things are disjointed at the moment, and how they will connect remains to be seen.

            Episode 5

            Back to the start.

Fresh off of Mebuki's side story, now the story of the first heroes is told through Sonoko while the hero club is having their Christmas party. They stumble upon a book, but there's a good amount of it censored as apparently there's something that the Taishu doesn't want them to know about. Sonoko's ancestor Wakaba was one of the heroes, and a girl that looked just like Yuna with the same first name went berserk when Tamako and Anzu bit the dust and nearly killed herself in doing so. While the heroes were there to provide home, they ended up being a gigantic failure. This goes to show just how difficult it is being a hero. I'm still not buying into what these side stories are supposed to do this season, but I'm hoping it leads to something big where everything connects seeing that it's not doing so at the moment.

              Episode 6

              From hero to zero.

After two heroes died and one of them suffered really bad injuries, Chikage totally loses her mind. It didn't help that the public has condemned them after the disaster from the last battle, but Chikage simply goes mad here. And it's important to remember that going mankai comes at a cost in this show as Togo was paralyzed from the legs down after using it in the Washio Sumi chapter, and she healed up after being fired at the end of the first season. For Chikage, her mental stability was sacrificed here, and now she's getting all violent, and only Wakaba can restore her sanity. Things take a drastic turn for the worst there at the end with Chikage, on a mission after her suspension was lifted, attacking Wakaba as she's none too pleased that Yuna had been getting close to Wakaba. That goes to show what cruel fate awaits heroes as they either die or can't live the way they want to.

                Episode 7

Once a hero, always a hero.

Chikage really lost her mind there, but it's a good thing she was forcibly powered down before she could land the knockout blow to Wakaba, and while Chikage has a grudge against Wakaba, the reverse isn't true as Wakaba values her has a companion in spite of everything. And Wakaba would have died had Chikage not taken the fatal hit by the Vertex in her place. Seeing that Chikage tried to kill Wakaba that instead of a hero's burial, she just has a normal, private funeral, all while the Taisha is out to striker her from the history books refusing to acknowledge her existence. The girls go to her place to see just what was going through Chikage's mind and while the place was trashed, the one thing she didn't destroy was her diploma going to show that she still cared about the team. And thus, Wakaba is out to let everybody know that Chikage deserves to be recognized in spite of her actions for saving Wakaba. Pretty tension-filled that was as all Chikage needed to do was tell Wakaba what was on her mind, and she wouldn't have gone through this bout of depression and everything.

                  Episode 8

                  Going down fighting.

And thus, the Nogi Wakaba is a Hero story comes to an end as Yuna is killed after overexerting herself and activating her Mankai knowing that she's going to die no matter what. But thanks to that heroic sacrifice, the world got 300 years of peace. And so, the girls find a hoe hidden in the closet as the holiday party wraps up. Yuna meets Takashima in her dream as she learns that she is cursed and Takashima, having been part of the Shinjuu for 300 years, is willing to take it herself, but the Yuna of the present declines. Quite a story that was, and now the focus shifts to Mebuki's party again as I'm still not clear what this show's intended end game is with this season being mostly about backstories up to this point.

                    Episode 9

                    It all ends here.

It's time for the final mission, but before that Mebuki and Karin face off against each other to vent their anger and frustration seeing that Mebuki is none too pleased that she wasn't chosen to be the hero, all while Karin is upset about the curse placed on Yuna. So they square off in an intense fight seeing that they haven't met each other since becoming a hero. But in the end they make up with each other as they each have objectives of their own. So with that, it's onto the final mission as Yuna gets married in the sacred ceremony, and it's the job for the Sentinels to protect them while that's happening. It will be interesting to see how all these things come together seeing that the season adapts two short side stories and brings them all together for something that will decide the future of humanity.
