    Episode 1

    This hero will do zero.

So it begins with Red settling in with his new life in the countryside as after being unceremoniously kicked out of the hero's party that he decides that battling the demon lord is something best left to real heroes and instead of dealing with the stress of an all-important job, he settles into his quiet life being a pharmacist in a rural village. Quite an interesting concept to say the least, and this ought to at least be a fun show to watch for the contrasting lifestyles as Red could have been fighting, but his comrade deemed him not up to snuff to fight evil with them. While the light novels are supposed to be pretty good, I'm not exactly sure what to make of the fact that the studios behind DamePri and Peter Grill are the ones animating this show. Nevertheless, it certainly is something I can get into, but if it gets slow and repetitive like what Drugstore in Another World is, all bets are off.

As usual, this show will go through the standard trial period process, and by the end of the month I should be making a final decision on this show.

      Re: Episode 1

      From Hero to Zero.

(I'd thought of it before I saw Buckeye's intro, and said, "Screw it, I'm keeping it"; it's a reverse on the 1997 Disney Hercules movie musical number "Zero to Hero").

So, we have Red, aka Gideon, the big brother of the HERO Ruty. The world in which they live is one where everyone receives a Divine Blessing, which can set up a person's life or career, even shaping their attitude. Gideon's Divine Blessing is that of Guide, which is perfect for him as his younger sister has the Hero Blessing, as in THE Hero. Guide means that Gideon starts off with a ridiculously high level, enabling him to protect and, ahem, properly GUIDE the Hero. But the downside is that while he starts off incredibly powerful with a high level, his level advances very slowly so that although it takes time, he's eventually passed by his sister and by the other party members. He's confronted by fellow party member Ares, who persuades him that he's become a hinderance, indeed, a burden, on the Hero's party. Ruty would never kick out her big brother, so Ares persuades Gideon to leave...oh, and leave his gear while he's at it, since he only got it because he's part of the party.

Gideon's a knight, but if its known he went back to them because of him being inadequate, the Knights' reputation would suffer, so he heads off to the far frontier and an isolated, relatively poor place known as Zultan, where he takes up the name "Red" and becomes known as a "D" rank adventurer who collects herbs to sell, with his goal of opening his own apothecary shop, which he achieves by the end of episode 1, where the local adventurer's guild's secretary/receptionist/employee, starts talking about him to an attractive and cute B-ranked adventurer, Lit, as the episode ends, with us seeing that Red has very much achieved his dream, and desires a slow, peaceful life, despite being secretly OPed compared to the local adventurers.

We also see from the OP and ED that Red and Lit are going to very much be an item in this series.

This is one of those properties that has had a lot of buzz, and my first impressions are all positive. It's a straight up fantasy, not an isekai, with a great result and an interesting premise: How much leeway does a person have in their life path when everyone is granted a specific blessing? I'm looking forward to next week, where, hopefully we'll learn more about Lit and her relationship with Red/Gideon.

        Episode 2

        Getting lit by Rit.

Just when it looked like Red could just quietly live out the rest of his days as Red the pharmacist rather than Gideon the hero's guide, here comes Princess Rizlet of Loggervia, and Rit is totally falling for him. That was something he certainly didn't expect seeing that this place is not exactly fit for a princess. But Rit is so attached to him because she saved her just when it looked like she would fall victim when one of the demons cleverly set out a trap. So Rit decides to move in and live this quiet live alongside with Red determined to marry him. While that's going on, the assassin Tisse has replaced Gideon in the party, and seeing how a good amount of attention is being given to the hero's party making me believe that they are going to be crossing paths again at the end of the series.

          Re: Episode 2

She's retired her tsun-tsun, and is all in on dere-dere.

So our first episode had Red triumphantly open his apothecary...and now reality has set it, with business VERY slow, with it being the rainy season, when in comes local B-rank adventurer Rit, who calls Red by his real name, Gideon. It turns out Red's not the only one laying low in Zoltan; Rit is actually Princess Rizlet of Loggervia, though she went by the name of Rit as an adventurer back when she crossed paths with Gideon and the Hero party when they saved Loggervia from the demon army. We see that she was a total tsundere back then where Gideon was concerned, but we also see that there are plenty of reasons why she'd fall for him: She and Gideon worked well as a team, he saved her life, and rebuilt her spirits after she suffered a devastating loss, and did so in order that her beloved country would be able to defeat the Demon Army with pride and confidence.

She's lying low in Zoltan because she doesn't want to get involved in a succession issue back home, as there are those who favor her (and we do see how the public does love her) over her younger brother who is the crown prince. She wants to work for Red, we even discover that Red used Rit's name as the base for his own alias in Zoltan. We also see that she's wiser in the ways of actual business than Red, which is a relief to her since she had Red on a very high pedestal.

We end with Red suddenly realizing that Rit plans on moving in with him, to his complete shock (not to the viewer since this was obvious from the OP and ED). Meanwhile, back with the Hero party, we get to meet Ares new hire, Tisse, a cute assassin with a cuter pet spider (whose name gets localized, ugh.), and meet the other members of the party: Danan who has the Martial Artist blessing and Teodora, who has the Crusader blessing. Ruti makes it clear that Tisse works for her, not Ares.

And so we end with it plain as day that the Rit, who wants to retire from being an adventurer, has also long since retired from being a tsundere: This girl is head-over-heels in love with Red. Rit is a really pleasant character, one who's that right balance in pursuing her man aggressively, but not too aggressively. She's determined to win him over, and isn't assuming that he feels the same way about her. Rit is prime waifu material, LOL.

So, I'm enjoying this show, but there are some issues: First, a way-too overly localized subbed version. It. Is. Annoying. Second, there are clearly budget issues with the animation and cuts have been made to the story, as we really needed a big crowd shot at the end of the Loggervia flashback to show that Rit succeeded. It would not have have taken long, but cuts were made and while the colors are good and the characters well animated, it looks clear they're going to do their best to keep crowd scenes to a minimum where the budget constraints will likely show up.

Still, this is a nice rom-com/rom-slice-of-life show. I look forward to next week.

            Episode 3

            Blessings can be a curse.

Seeing that Rit is a princess that she's used to having a luxurious bed to sleep on. But the bargain-brand bed at Red's place is woefully insufficient for her, so they take a trip to Storm's shop to upgrade the bed. And then Red steps in to break up a fight as he goes on explaining what blessings are. And then in trying to get people to take their medicine, they come up with a way to do it by baking it into cookies. Red and Rit sure are building quite a big reputation around town. While that's going on, there's the hero's party that booted him out, and Danan realizes that chemistry has really suffered since Ares unceremoniously kicked Gideon out of the party and is determined to get him back, and Ruti agrees seeing that he is her brother. I had a feeling that the party was going to miss Gideon, and while he's useless in fighting evil, he's a great strategist that has held the team together, which is something Ares didn't consider when he made his decision seeing him as just a liability than a much-needed support guy.

              Episode 4

              It's getting hot in here.

Here comes Albert, and he's not exactly pleased to see that Zolton's top adventurer has retired from adventuring. And then it's off to the bath house where Red tests his tolerance to the extreme there. But he, Rit, and Nao are there in order to help out the owner as the place has been struggling, but the owner is motivated once again. While that's going on, the hero's part continues to be in quite a big state of disarray as without Gideon's wisdom, things are not well and good there. Seeing that this was all about going to the sauna that naturally there would be plenty of moments for fanservice there, and of course there's that perceived pervert trope happening when the ladies walk in while Red was using the place. Just another slow day where Red doesn't have to worry about fighting evil, but it's only a matter of time before crossing paths again having realized how important team chemistry really is.

So with that, the trial period is over for this show, and I'm on the fence about this one. In any case, I'll need to step back and evaluate everything before making a final decision.

I find it amusing they talk about the loss of trust, but what lead to that was our protagonist trusting the extremely suspect words of Blatantly Evil. Granted people have a bad habit of trusting the wrong people

Rit is the true power and best aspect of the show so far.

                  Episode 5

                  When Gideon met Rit...

After dealing with a thieves guild who are trying to buy Rit from Red, it's a flashback episode to the time when Rit first met Red while he was in the hero's party. It happened during the quest through the Bewitching Woods led by Yarandala, and after witnessing Ruti's fearsome strength and seeing just how close she is to Red that she bailed not realizing that Ruti is his sister. From that point on, Rit had decided that returning to Loggervia to become the princess was not in the cards for her, and thus she embarked on a life as a humble adventurer and not as a princess without any freedom. A lot gets explained here seeing that it's no wonder why Rit had her sights set on Ruti. In the meantime, Ruti is so mad about Ares dismissing Gideon from the hero's party that she blows a hole in him and then heals him up. Things are getting really interesting now that the hero's party is even more serious than ever to drag Gideon back.

Too much of anything is bad.

Things got quite serious here seeing that this is supposed to be a relaxing environment that Red is living in. So it begins with somebody overdosing on a painkiller. And then members of Albert's party go berserk leading to Albert killing them as it turns out that Albert is quite frustrated with his recent bout of laziness and he's always striving for greatness, all while it becomes a very dangerous situation for his party members when they can't match his standards. While that's going on, Danan has reached Zoltan looking for Red as Ruti is just feeling more and more miserable. I knew that things were bound to get serious at some point, but I never thought it would happen so suddenly like this.

                      Episode 7

So much for the quiet life.

Just like that, things have gotten chaotic as Red wanted nothing more than to not find any more trouble, but now trouble found him. First off, there's Ademi attacking Al's family with an ax that would have ended badly had Red not arrived just in the nick of time. In the midst of this, Red and Rit train Al on how to wield a sword. And then Gonz and Nao let him know that Tanta was taken away, and they see Moen, who is Ademi's father and is apparently the reason why Ademi hasn't been dealt with. It turns out that it was the doing of a drug that grants a person a second Blessing. Then a bunch of invaders attack, and Rit is a sitting duck having fallen for a trap that disables her ability to use a weapon, but Danan arrived just in time to save her. Then there's the ending in which Ruti and company find an airship that will go a long way in helping find her brother. It's total chaos there as now there's a lot of fighting between people, and a different kind of battle is starting up. It will be interesting to see just how Red deals with this.

                        Episode 8

                        Devils in disguise.

And just like that, Bighawk's big scheme has been exposed as he's the one who has been handing out the Devil's Blessing that is behind the plague going on in Zoltan. He set up Al to execute Ademi after the drug caused him to go on a rampage, but Al knew better seeing that he probably would have killed him had it not been for Red's training and guidance. As it turns out, Bighawk is actually the demon Belial, while Albert was none too pleased that he was rejected by the hero's party. Bighawk was thrown into the slammer, but he doesn't stay there long as Bui, who is actually the demon lord's general Shisandan who was believed to have been killed by Ruti, has him forming a new contract with Albert and they break out of jail as they try to force their way into the hero's party, but Ruti sees right through them. Quite a lot of plotting and scheming going on, and while Bighawk would have fooled a lot of people, Red and company were right on top of things. So the threat has been extinguished and it's back to the quiet life, though the hero's party is coming for him seeing how bad things have gotten without him.
