    Episode 1

Like a fish out of water.

The two leads are introduced as there's Fuuka, a former idol who found out that her childhood dream wasn't what she had imagined. So she's moving back to her home in Okinawa to return to her family and figure out where she wants to go for her career. And then there's Kukuru, who is enthusiastic about marine life and hopes to become a marine biologists when she grows up, but life isn't exactly going very well for her, either. The two have a fateful encounter at the aquarium where things are set into motion. An excellent start to this show as the production team that produced Nagi no Asukara is back at it again, and their signature art style is on full display with that imaginary scene where Fuuka goes under water in her mind. Now that the two have met, it will be interesting to see where things go, and with this being a two-cour show that there's plenty that can be accomplished.

Like always, trial period, though it's more of a formality with this show than anything.

PA Works really likes their girls working hard anime. don't they? And with added yuri. And it's 24 cour, so we'll see Kukuru and Fuuka's relationship develop nicely.

The way the first episode ended was great. Here's hoping the potential will be realized instead of ruined. For now this might be my favorite of the shows I've tried so far.

          Dreams dead in the water.

The first episode was about Fuuka as her dream of becoming an idol has been sunk. And now, the focus turns to Kukuru as she's running the aquarium, but with financial troubles, worn-out equipment that needs to be upgraded, and the director retiring that this place doesn't have much longer to stay afloat. But Kukuru is not giving up as she takes over the role of director and is having Fuuka helping her out. Fuuka has quite a lot to learn seeing that by spilling all those fish, the penguins were fighting over it, all while she took a nasty dive into the pool. While Fuuka's dream has been crushed, she's doing what she can to support Kukuru's that's hanging by a thread, and that adds quite a lot of intrigue. It will be interesting to see what comes from this friendship, especially with what Fuuka will do for her future now that the idol gig is dead.

            Remember to treasure life.

This episode is all about life as Kukuru is hard at work caring for the animals, especially that old penguin she first met as a kid as it has sore feet. While that's going on, one of the biologists there, Takeshita, goes into labor and needs to be rushed over. It's a good thing Kukuru has a friend in the tourism department in Karin who knows a shortcut as thanks to her daringness, Takeshita delivered her baby in great health. Great to see that Kukuru is learning more and more about responsibility as she will need everything she can take if her dream of keeping the aquarium going is going to stand a chance of being realized.

              Episode 4

              Idol identified.

While Fuuka ended up in Okinawa hoping to keep a low profile after quitting the industry, looks like her dream could be resurrected as she has plenty of support from her fans to return to the stage, but that's something for another day seeing that for now she's just an attendant and she has no intention of trying to go back to fix up her shattered dream. Among the co-workers there is a giant who has the look of one of those creepy idol fanboys in Umi-yan, and is a big fan of the idols coming from her former production company. And then there are visitors who recognize Fuuka the idol as the touch pool exhibit opens up. Fuuka is settling in quite nicely, but now she will need to answer to her mother seeing that she's none too pleased about how things are transpiring to say the least. It will be interesting to see where this all goes.

                Episode 5

                Helping others before helping oneself.

Here comes Fuuka's mother who came to the aquarium to bring her back home to Iwate, and while there was some hesitancy, in the end she agreed to let Fuuka remain in Okinawa for the rest of the summer. Quite a nice response that was by Fuuka to let her know that by working, she's motivated to find out what she wants to do next. She's helping Kukuru realize her dream so that she can find a new one for herself, and that starts with continuing to work as an attendant so that the touch pool exhibit can stay open. It will be interesting to see what Fuuka will end up deciding on as she only has until the end of summer to figure things out, and giving the amount of publicity Fuuka got for being a former idol, I have a feeling she will become an idol again, but in a different capacity.

                  Episode 6

                  The art of shaved ice.

In another attempt to bring customers to the aquarium, Kukuru comes up with the idea of selling homemade ice cream. While it sounds all well and good, there's just one problem in that a permit is required to sell it and they aren't easy to obtain. So instead they come up with the idea of selling shaved ice instead, while also needing a permit it's a lot easier to get. To help them out, they enlist the help of Udon-chan as the restaurant owner's daughter came up with some really artistic ways to serve it. Quite a nice way to showcase Udon-chan seeing that the focus had been on Kukuru and Fuuka just about all this time. They are definitely a hit, and with Penstagram the word can get out.

You can never escape permits! In any case, the show tends to lose me when it decides to go all magical. I get the magical moments are meant to fill you with wonder, but I just keep worrying they'll consume the narrative and not in a good way.

                      Episode 7

                      Everybody needs a break.

Kukuru has been working just about nonstop at the aquarium seeing that it's on the verge of closing and there's the big summer vacation rush that is critical if the place is to remain open or not. But even she needs to take a break in spite of the place's uncertain future. So they go out to the beach where locals don't wear swimsuits due to the constant UV exposure they are dealing with. And then there are the great schoolers in Rui and Maho who are regular visitors, and Rui is in love with her, but wants to prove himself in a challenge against Kuuya, who even when holding back is still freakishly strong. It turns out that Kuuya is a high school dropout and he loves to tease. So pretty much, this episode is all about enjoying the time they have left and then cross that bridge to uncertainty when the time comes seeing that there's just no telling what's in store for everybody.

                        Episode 8

                        Bring the aquarium to them.

And now, Kukuru brings the aquarium to a children's hospital as part of her traveling aquarium campaign, and one request that the nurse who asked for the aquarium to come there is that there would be no crabs as she's afraid of them. But low and behold, a crab sneaks on board and instead of calling her co-workers to take care of the situation, she tries to handle it herself and she made a bad problem worse as the crab is on the loose. After chasing it around, it ends up climbing the nurse, but in the end it was a hit with the children. At the very least, things worked out well seeing the kids were happy and a complaint would have been filed if not for that. Nevertheless it goes to show that Fuuka should seek assistance if such a problem like that were to pop up.

                          Episode 9

It's not supposed to be all fun and games.

Here comes an employee who will be working at a new aquarium that's opening up soon in the city center, and she is being sent to Gama Gama in order to learn under the legend that is Kukuru's grandfather. The fact that the aquarium was closing soon would be reason enough to be skeptical about this assignment, and after seeing that a high schooler was in charge, even more so. Kukuru's handling of the job just reeks of inexperience seeing that they are talking quite a lot while some of the kids there are not exactly at the aquarium to see the marine wildlife there. After all that, the trainee asks to work at a different aquarium, all while Kukuru makes a trip to the city center to get a glimpse of the new aquarium that will come to replace the one they have. This goes to show how much Kukuru has to learn about running an aquarium as she wasn't exactly being a good influence on her trainee. It will be interesting to see how things play out here as I would have to think that as things stand, Kukuru will end up working over there where she can still pursue her dream of becoming a marine biologist, but her pride just won't allow herself to let the aquarium her grandfather ran for so long shut down without a fight.

                              Episode 10

                              Illusion confusion.

So after the trainee bailed going to show just how woefully unprepared Kukuru is to take over as the aquarium's director, her next plan is to showcase a miracle after seeing an illusion from the aquarium. Problem is that not many people can see it. Kukuru was about to make a huge mistake there trying to lure in customers using that miracle illusion, but after realizing that in all likelihood they won't see it that Kai talked her out of it as going through with it would have damaged the aquarium's reputation, and in this case because it's on its last legs, irreparably so. In the meantime, Fuuka is being sought after to return to the idol industry, and I have a feeling that by the end of the summer she will return to being an idol again seeing that she has so many fans, it was her lifelong passion, and she knows deep inside that she wants to get back on the stage, but under more favorable conditions.
