    Nothing Re-Mains about water polo.

Just like in the other MAPPA sports shows, the MC is somebody who was a stud in the sport, and then something happens that causes his career to come crashing. And that's what literally happens with Minato here as he was the captain of the junior high water polo team that won a championship. But shortly thereafter, he was involved in a car crash that knocked him out for about seven months and when he woke up, his memories were wiped out from the last three years. Even though he has amnesia, he's being pushed towards taking up the sport again in high school, and if he is to become a stud player again, he will have to start from square one and work out to get back the muscle he lost during that coma. Pretty interesting start here as I knew that this was going to be another solid sports show with the story writer of Tiger and Bunny scripting this show, and I'm certainly liking what I am seeing.

As always, trial period rules and I'm going to watch some more before making an evaluation.

Change of scenery, change of sport.

So it turns out Minato made an important promise with Chinu, and in order to fulfill it he has to play water polo in high school. The two barely know each other, so this is the start of something. While Minato is not the same player he once was, his name, image, and likeness is being used to recruit members, and they got three new guys who couldn't cut it in other sports with a baseball player, a Nigerian basketball player, and a track athlete. Seeing that the water polo club had been on hiatus for ten years that a lot of work needed to be done in order to get the pool up and running again. Those guys all show great potential for the sport, and it's nice to see that their athleticism is being repurposed as it would be a waste to have all that talent on the sidelines. Next time, the club needs to recruit one more member to field a team, and they have their sights set on a swimmer who's currently on the track team, but it will be two weeks before that as next week the show takes a break. This continues to be a nice sports show.

        Episode 3

        Getting back in the water.

Shugo had a falling out with swimming and as such, he's looking for another sports team to join. He's quite a freak of nature in the pool as he shows during the swimming match with the polo team as they are racing him as a relay team with a 20-second head start. It's quite painful to watch some of those guys try to swim, but at least they learned enough in just three days to put up a fight. In the end, Shugo edged out the team, but Minato had a strong showing there as the team's anchor going to show that at least he knows how to swim. Nevertheless, they made a deal and they lost, but I get the feeling Shugo is still going to join seeing that he experienced something that he never thought he would ever experience again.

          Episode 4

          Be better than big brother.

While the team was edged out in the race, Shugo was convinced to join the club after hearing from his big brother as the reason why he took up swimming was because that's the one thing he was closest to beating his big brother at. And while he did surpass him in a way, that felt like an empty victory since he didn't do it while competing against him. But he has a renewed sense of purpose now that he's playing a sport where he has a chance to do that. However, this team has their work cut out for them seeing that they have their hands full in a practice match against a junior team. They were supposed to have played Rikka, but they don't have enough healthy members to field a team. Quite a nice way for Shugo to realize that he's wanted on the team and to fulfill his lifelong goal.

So with that, the trial period is over, and this show continues to be another very nice sports show that comes at an appropriate time since it's the summer and the Olympics are going on.

            Episode 5

            Review the film.

As expected, the team got slugged by the junior team, and while they have superior physicality, their technique is another thing entirely as they made it look easy. So looking for answers, Minato decides to pay a visit to his old coach that tells him to review all the game film, and that's starting to at least help him return to being a competent player. And then Eitaro shows up wanting to quit the team. But after a heart-to-heart chat with him when the two return to school Minato talked Eitaro out of quitting. Great to see more development here as these guys are going to need all the practice they can get with their skills seeing that half of the team never played the sport before, while Minato needs to rediscover his passion that led him to becoming a force to be reckoned with in the pool.

              Episode 6

              No teammate left behind.

Seeing that the team has only been around for one month that they have made quite a lot of progress with training and practice. This episode focuses on Ushi as he is the soft-spoken teammate and joined the club on impulse not realizing what he was getting himself into. He joined in order to prove to the classmates that the water polo club is not one of those trash clubs. Nevertheless, he had his teammates worried there, especially when it appeared that he was going to hang himself with the clothesline, but just leave it to his teammates to let him know that he has friends within the club. As it turns out, he has quite a strong shot there able to throw that ball with such speed. So with that, the tournament is fast approaching and right off the bat the team is going to face some stiff competition.

There's something strange about this change.

While the boys continue to improve their skills, their teamwork, on the other hand, is just a mess. So Jojima makes the suggestion that they wear matching tracksuits as a sign of unity. Unfortunately, not everybody is on-board with it and it took some convincing to do so. And in Shugo's case, his current tracksuit is quite special. But in the end, they all agree that change is needed and thus, they go with one that has the character for change on the jacket. But in a mad rush to get the order in before the sale ends, Jojima ends up dropping the second character and their tracksuits say strange instead of change. It was all well and good even if the end result wasn't exactly ideal. That said, that ending there raises a lot of questions as Minato used to command the water polo team like a drill sergeant, and it's hard to believe that he used to be like that. It will be interesting to see what the deal is as if there's one reason why Minato does not want to return to his former self, that would be it.

                  Losing sight of himself.

That was a really dark episode there as it turns out that Minato was being such an arrogant jerk whose brash attitude and drill sergeant mentality resulting in a player quitting the water polo team. That guy, Ichinose, just so happens to be the one who introduced Chinu to the sport, and what she said back then, the true meaning behind those words was meant to get revenge. So he crashes again and this time he becomes that arrogant jerk that he was back then. Seeing that the team can't play without him that they are doing whatever it takes to get back on his feet and become the teammate they were hoping to get. Things sure took quite a turn there, and only Minato's teammates can help him out now, all while Chinu has really crossed the line taking advantage of the situation like that.

                    Better player or better teammate?

And thus, the old Minato has returned, but it's not all for the better. The Minato of the past was an elite player, but unfortunately he's a much worse teammate than the Minato of the present, and of course since water polo is a team sport that it's important to be a good team player in addition, and that is something that's so worrisome. But it's a good thing the Minato of the present came prepared by making that video recording of himself, and thus both personalities are finding a way to somehow coexist. Of course, while Minato's skill is back, it doesn't work with the current shape of his body, so that's something that ought to keep himself in check. Great to see Minato getting back to his senses, though he's still arrogant in a way. And Chinu just continues to be so annoying and hopefully he does something to show her the ropes.

                      Work hard, play harder.

Now that Minato has resolved his personality issues to the point where he can be a team player, it's full speed ahead as everybody hard at practice. Minato used to operate like a drill sergeant in practice, but he found a common ground that works for everybody. While Shugo is determined to finally beat his brother, it won't come at this tournament as he cramped up. And thus, this episode is more about building up more than anything. And with that, it's onto the prefectural tournament for the final two episodes of this show.
