In an unexpected turn of events, dull high school student Hiro Yuuki obtains the full dive role-playing game Kiwame Quest. Created by the best of technology, the game claims to take "reality to its extremes," from stunning graphics, NPCs' behavior, to the scent of vegetation, and even the sensation of wind brushing against the skin—everything was the result of an ultimate workmanship.

Except, the game is a little too realistic and messy to clear. Kiwame Quest features over ten quadrillion flags and reflects the players' real-life physical abilities in the game. Being hit in the game also hurts in real life and slash wounds take days to heal.

The only reward here is the sense of accomplishment. Conquer the most stressful game in history that can't be played casually!

Episode 1

This is gonna hurt.

Hiro is just lacking in street smarts and common sense there as there's just no way he should have been duped into playing Kiwame Quest instead of the game he had been saving his hard-earned money for. That goes to show that you should think before you do, which he failed to do as he didn't check that he was giving the 1000 yen bill instead of the one with the extra zero that left him unable to buy the new game he wanted, and he should have inspected the game to make sure he was getting what he asked for before agreeing to buy it from Reona, which wouldn't have happened in the first place if he had enough money to buy the latest FQ. But here he is, and right off the bat things are looking bad for this "Best Friend Killer" as by accident he killed Martin, and now he's on the run. This is only supposed to be a game, but seeing that he feels the pain IRL that Martin's player is going to have it much worse, and that's going to get him in trouble. And it turns out that because he bought it from a specific shop that he gets an added bonus perk of having a fairy navigator in the form of Reona. Pretty crazy stuff here as Hiro's lack of common sense is pretty funny, and seeing him freaking out adds quite a lot of intrigue.

As usual, the trial period rules are in effect, and I will check some more out before making a definitive decision on this show.

Episode 1

Buyer Beware.

Hiro is having a bad day. First he gets called in for a talk with a teacher who uses cliched dialogue that he got out of a motivation book. It's all about some incident, as yet unknown, that happened at a freshman track meet. Then he runs into a friend who's in the middle of practicing track, bringing up the past issue yet again. Then on the way home, he gets hit up by some thugs who want money, but he gives them a 10,000 yen note (roughly $100 USD), instead of a $1,000 yen note ($10 USD). Which means he's 1,000 yen short on the brand new game he preordered.

Looking around to see if there's a shop where it might be cheaper, he goes into Kisaragi game shop, where he gets a hard sell from gorgeous and busty clerk Reona, who does a bait-and-switch number. It's not the brand new 22nd version of the game he's been playing since elementary school, it's a 10-year old game called Kiwame Quest, which Reona dupes him into going along with for the promise of the super adult rating of the game, that's a VRMMO for "Adults", but she'll give a pass to 17-year old Hiro. He gets her number, and then goes home, where he walks into his sister Kawde changing to take a bath, resulting in sis hate, just making his day worse.

Still he logs into the new game and is greeted by his childhood friend, and her brother, Martin, his best friend, who want him to go pick apples on their farm. Hiro innocently asks how to leave the city to go to the castle, the opening quest he was given as he started the game. The pair freak out, warning him about the city guards hearing. Apparently the town is cut-off from the outside due to goblins. No one's going anywhere. Hiro decides to go slay some goblins, at which point his "friend" Martin beats the crap out of him. And it hurts like hell. This is way too realistic, but it gets worse when Hiro rushes Martin as the cocky best friend is eating a slice of apple. With a knife. Result, Martin is dead and Alicia is out for blood. After fleeing, Hiro's just about to log out and start over, when Reona appears, in a very sexy and revealing outfit. She's a fairy, and can't be seen or heard by NPCs (like Martin and Alicia) or by monsters. It's a perk given to store employees, making Hiro wonder why the players aren't getting the perks. Checking on his status by the tile around his neck, we all discover that Hiro now has the title "Best Friend Killer"!

How real do we want our games to be? It's an interesting question and one that this series looks to have a lot of fun with over everything that could go wrong with a game that's too real. Whether it'll ever show the positives...who knows?

Interesting start, so I'll watch and see.

All you need is kill.

So, Reona comes in and relates to Hiro how screwed he is, but, oh, yeah, there was this other guy who killed his best friend right at the start as well, and he's still here after 10 years. Except he's been found by Alicia who's gone absolute Yandere, and even slashes his hand. But don't worry, even if he gets killed, it'll only fell like he feel done the stairs and got completely bruised from head to toe. No thanks.

He then discovers that since he's still in combat, he can't log out. But thanks to Reona fighting off Alicia (who can't see Reona), Hiro gets far enough away that he logs out. Back in the real world, he's back in a lousy life, as his lil sis bitches at him, his best friend still insults his gaming hobby, and the bullies are still thinking of him as a bank account. But his track background came in handy, so....

Stupidly, he logs back in and still suffering from the knife slash to his hand, and meets Ginji, who also killed his best friend. He gets some advice, learning that Ginji killed both the bestfriend and childhood friend, just for kicks, but that there was this one guy who cleared the game. Oh, and your only chance in this game is how you are IRL; Ginji used to do judo, for example.

Oh, and the game's dead, no longer supported by the company, no updates, etc., only a small group of players in the game.

And proving that he is indeed worthy of his current title of "Not Human: Heartless" Ginji exposes Hiro and calls for the city guard.

This show keeps doing 2 things: Showing how bad such a hyperrealistic game would be, and how stupid Hiro is for staying in it. Just ignore Reona's big boobs, and move on.

I'm keeping watching for now, but this is one of those shows that could take a turn any moment.
