Killed while saving a stranger from a traffic collision, a 34-year-old NEET is reincarnated into a world of magic as Rudeus Greyrat, a newborn baby. With knowledge, experience, and regrets from his previous life retained, Rudeus vows to lead a fulfilling life and not repeat his past mistakes.

Now gifted with a tremendous amount of magical power as well as the mind of a grown adult, Rudeus is seen as a genius in the making by his new parents. Soon, he finds himself studying under powerful warriors, such as his swordsman father and a mage named Roxy Migurdia—all in order to hone his apparent talents. But despite his innocent exterior, Rudeus is still a perverted otaku, who uses his wealth of knowledge to make moves on women whom he could never make in his previous life.

    Episode 1

Getting a second chance at life.

So it begins with the MC killed, and then isekaied to a fantasy world where he's reborn as Rudeus, and he's using his knowledge from his previous life to make changes seeing that he lived as a NEET and regrets it. But this time, he's learning stuff right off the bat, learning the language in just six months and already learning how to use some basic magic. And then he gets a tutor in Roxy, though things aren't exactly off to the best of starts there. So far, it has been a lot of narrative seeing that this show is all about Rudy's growth and transformation into an adult. It's off to a great start as it does an excellent job in establishing Rudy's character, while the narrative storytelling style does the job.

As usual, trial period rules are in effect.

      Re: Episode 1

      It feels real.

Based on a web novel that first began in 2012, and ended in 2015, it would become a light novel series in 2014 that is still ongoing with 24 volumes, but nearing its end, and also be published by Seven Seas in English, with 9 physical volumes and 8 digital volumes released. It is also an ongoing monthly manga with 13 volumes published in Japan, with Seven Seas having released 11 volumes in English.

I've not been able to confirm this myself, but there are those out there on several message boards that this property is the grandfather of Truck-kun reincarnation isekai stories.

True or not, this first episode has blown me away. An overweight neet goes to save 3 high school students from Truck-kun, saving one, with the 2 other students missing, and dies on the operating table, only to be reborn as an infant, intellect, and personality intact, and he becomes determined to be better than he was in his past life. He is reborn as Rudeus (Rudy) Greyrat the son of the local knight in charge of a small village and his wife, Zenith. The pair were former adventurers, with Zenith having healing magic. As minor nobility, they have a maid, the rather distant Lilia. We spend episode 1 covering roughly the first 3-4 years of Rudy's life, as he realizes that he's been reborn into a world of swords and sorcery, and how he sets out to learn to read and how to do magic, with his parents discovering his talent and hiring a young woman of small stature to be his magical tutor, Roxy Migurdia, a blue haired girl of short stature and small bust, with Roxy at first thinking that she's been hired by idiots who think their kid's a genius, to actually realizing that Rudy is a genius, with the episode ending with Roxy's welcome party.

This show has that rarity: It feels real. It helps that it has gorgeous animation, but Rudy's not growing up in a mansion; he lives in a decent-sized farm house. There's an ecchi-side to this show, but the ecchiness aspects of it flow naturally. For example in a house like he lives in, it would be natural to hear your parents having sex. It would natural to get distracted by a sudden panty-flash while performing magic. Upon seeing Roxy for the first time, when expecting a bearded older wizard, upon seeing the young and small Roxy, Rudy muses, Forget having a beard, she looks like she hasn't even grown her bush. This sounds like the crude kind of thought a middle aged man would have upon seeing someone you'd think would be too young for the job.

This is not an ecchi-show. The ecchiness here serves for explaining the MC's personality, but also for establishing the nature of the world. It is not excessive, and passes on multiple opportunities to show nudity. For example the MC talks about being breastfeed by the beautiful Zenith, but saying there was nothing sexual about it, musing if it might be because she's his mother. But we don't get any breastfeeding visuals, and while bathing shots would be natural, and/or casual nudity natural while bathing a young child, the only nudity we get is of pre-K Rudy being bathed.

The show just has a feeling of reality to it, and that's a very rare vibe that I get from anime. I'm very impressed by this show, and while I use the word ecchi here quite a bit, it's really adult in approach to things, with the ecchi aspects part of that adult approach. I'm already hooked.

        Episode 2

        Make it rain.

And now, Rudy's past life is explained as he was bullied, and that led him to be a shut-in. But one day, he was kicked out of his home and he got run over by a truck trying to save some kids from a swerving truck. In this world, he lives in a village where everybody gets along and he doesn't get picked on, and that allows him a better chance at life. And with previous experiences still fresh in his mind, he takes full advantage being able to graduate from Roxy's tutelage not long after turning five by casting that spell to call up a storm. No wonder why Rudy ended up having that outlook in life going to show why bullies are such a problem.

          Re: Episode 2

Through the wringer. Then back through the wringer. Rinse and repeat.

Here we see the background of Rudy back in his past life. We see him as an overweight NEET, living in his room, who instead of going to his parents' funeral, is masturbating while watching porn. His surviving relatives, and we've no idea if they're cousins or siblings or a mix, storm into his home, and kick him out, barefoot, into the rain, when while wandering around he sees our good friend Truck-kun, swerving and about to wipe out 3 high school students, he goes to save them and he ends up back where our story started. So, we start off by seeing what a miserable human being Rudy ended up being in our world.

His parents are at it again, and he decided to go have a bit of fun by going in and asking why they're naked (he's 3-years old at this point), but he sees Roxy in the hallway, either peeking and listening to his parents having sex, while she herself is masturbating.

Note: Both scenes of masturbation are implied, heavily, but without any nudity or censorship involved.

He gallantly decides not to bother her or confront her about it

We then go through the next 1 1/2 years of training with Roxy at 6 month intervals, up to his birthday at the age of 5. In this world, birthdays are celebrated at 5 year intervals, 5, 10 and when a person becomes an adult at 15.

However, over the course of this time, not only do we see the bonding between Rudy and his master Roxy, who insists she not be called "Master", we get to see and understand why Rudy is so traumatized that he ended up the miserable excuse for a human that he was when his life ended. He had been bullied, mercilessly, multiple times, making him terrified of the outside world. Bullied as in being duct-taped naked in a crucified pose to the school gate, mocked while everyone uses their cellphones to take pictures of him. Result, we've now seen him at his worst, but we've also seen how he became to be that bad off, and it makes sense why he still has trauma from his past life.

On his 5th birthday, at his party he gets a sword from his dad, a book from his mom and a wand from Roxy to magnify his power. Roxy is planning to leave, because she feels there's nothing more that she can teach Rudy, but has a last exam for him to advance to the next level of water magic. The test requires them to go out in the country away from the village, and the result is that it is a double test for Rudy, the magic test, but also for his terror of passing outside the garden of his home.

And, despite his terror, he survives the trip outside coming to understand what a nice village it is, with nice people, people who all appreciate and like Roxy, which he has learned is a major thing: Roxy's blue hair mark her as a demon. We also learn about a sub-race of demons with red gems in their foreheads and green hair who ran wild because of the Demon Lord Laplace, 400 years ago, and how dangerous they still are.

But Roxy overcame all that prejudice, and finally, Rudy is able to put aside his trauma of going outside, passing the first of the 2 tests. Naturally, he breezes through the magic test as well becoming a Sacred Water Magic user. Roxy also tells Rudy of an amazing magic academy in the north.

Roxy departs the next day, despite everyone wanting her to stay, as she's determined to improve her own magic abilities, with Rudy truly thanking her.

We end with a reminder of Rudy being who he is; the maid finding a pair of Roxy's panties that Rudy had stolen.

This episode was outstanding in showing us all the sides of Rudy's past life, with all of the unvarnished ugliness of it; the ugliness of what he became and the ugliness of how he became that way. It also shows a great deal about the bonding between Roxy and Rudy, and what a good teacher she is to Rudy, and why he thinks so highly of her.

So far this is an outstanding series, well-paced and providing a far deeper story than I anticipated. This is really great stuff!

            Episode 3

            Say no to bullying.

Rudy sees an elf being bullied, and understanding how bullies ruined his previous life that he helps the kid out and becomes friends with Sylphiette. While that's all well and good, he should have known better than to try and take a bath with someone he doesn't know for sure is a boy, and should have asked his parents to take care of that. This goes to show that while Rudy has learned a lot having imported it from his previous life, he still has a lot left to learn, and at least he took this humbling experience in stride. This show just keeps on doing a nice job building Rudy's character, this time using the thing that turned him into a NEET and using that to help someone else avoid becoming that kind of person.

              Episode 4

              Be a good big brother.

The good news: Rudy becomes a big brother with the birth of two new girls in Norn and Aisha. The bad news: Rudy's father Paul had an affair with the maid, and as such his opinion of him has taken a hit. Even so, Rudy is slowly adjusting to his new and bigger family with a sister and half-sister, though he still has a bit of animosity towards his father. But at the very least, Paul was being perfectly logical about not letting him attend magic academy seeing that he's too young, the family is broke, and of course there's the family. But Rudy is determined to go seeing that his magic ability has capped out, and not to mention Roxy now has a great job there. So Rudy decides to work towards his tuition, and in comes some freakish strong beastwoman that Rudy is going to be working with. This show just continues to deliver as goes to show just how much responsibility Rudy is willing to take on, but he's not exactly in the best environment to do so. It will be interesting to see what kind of job he is doing seeing that he got it after being knocked out and thrown into the carriage by Paul.

                Re: Episode 4

                The power of panties.

This is an incredibly good show.

Good news, Rudy! You're going to have a baby brother or sister! Bad news, Rudy! You're going to have another baby brother or sister!

So, we start off with the family rejoicing due to Zenith, FINALLY, getting pregnant again...and not due to lack of trying. And right after that, Lillia, the maid, also becomes pregnant. Yep, Paul's been having a little too much fun. All this news coming in the midst of a blizzard. Lillia plans to deliver Zenith's baby then leave the house. It'll take about a month for her to back to her home village, and there's no way that a woman who's traveling alone, worn out from childbirth, and traveling with a newborn is going to survive.

Rudy to the rescue! He thinks of Lillia as part of his family, remembers all the good things that she's done for him, especially that she didn't tell anyone about him stealing Roxy's panties, or even confiscating them. So, he sweet talks Zenith, falsely puts the blame on Paul and saves the family unit. It turns out that Lillia, having heard Paul and Zenith going at it all the time, finally couldn't stand it anymore, and deliberately arranged so that Paul could see her bathing herself off in the nude. The result is the first female semi-nudity in the series, as we get a partial view of Lillia's tush, and a nice sideboob view (no nipples).

The result is that Lillia, who we have explain to us in flashback, had always been creeped out by Rudy since he was born. But now she's vastly indebted to him, and the pair finally bond. We also learn that karma is at work: while Paul was not the instigator this time, in the past he and Lillia had been students together in a sword school, and he had sexually assaulted her, taking her virginity, and then running away from the school.

And it's baby sisters! Norn, the daughter of Zenith, and Aisha, the daughter of Lillia.

We also get a letter from Roxy, who has advanced to the next level of water magic, something she didn't think she could do, something that Rudy inspired her to achieve. Which makes Rudy realize, that contrary to what Roxy expected to have happened in her letter, he's stagnated, and isn't advancing with either the sword or magic. So, Rudy asks for permission to go to the magic academy Roxy had recommended and for Sylphie to go with him. Paul refuses giving very good reasons why, including that they can't afford to pay for Sylphie (who has become very attached to Rudy and can't bear for him to leave). Rudy then asks for permission to get a job, so he can save up to pay for Sylphie's tuition.

Shortly afterwards, a beastwoman known to Paul and Zenith arrives, and after Paul, who we learn is a really good swordsman, a master of all 3 sword styles, knocks out Rudy, who wakes up in an enclosed wagon with the beastwoman who tells him they'll be working together.

The humor here is outstanding. The story is just amazingly well-told. Of all the anime out this season, I think this is easily the best debut work, debuting as an anime, that is.

                  Episode 5

What will it take to get her to listen?

I had a feeling something was up when Rudy was knocked out and sent on a wagon with a buffed vixen, and it turns out that his job is to be the teacher of a noble lady named Eris whose family Ghislaine is the bodyguard for, and it's easy to see why she's going to be a hard one to tame as she's always throwing tantrums and what not, and she's none too pleased that her tutor is somebody who's younger than herself. But things were taken to the extreme with Rudy and Eris locked away together, and while Rudy is capable of getting out himself, this forces Eris to have to trust Rudy if she wanted to get out. And then Eris gets kidnapped, and with Rudy's distress signal, Ghislaine comes in. Seeing that Rudy was warned that Ghislaine is all muscle and no brains that I had a feeling things wouldn't exactly end well seeing that the wolf lady killed the captors, but in the end Eris accepted Rudy. Eris made her presence well known there as for better or worse, her tsundere attitude certainly stood out. But now, those two are in it together, so it will be interesting to see what kind of relationship they build.

                    Some things don't add up.

No wonder Eris is who she is as she got it from her grandfather. Nevertheless, while Rudy is way ahead of her in magic and academia, Eris has Rudy totally beat when it comes to the sword. They develop quite a nice relationship there, though Rudy might want to be a bit more conscious of the situation. Going for her panties while she's asleep is not the best idea. And then they spend a day in the town where it turns out that Eris is really bad at math, and while Ghislaine is no genius at it either, at least she knows the basics. Great to see their relationship developing seeing that they are going to be needing each other even if Eris won't admit it.

                      Episode 7

Save the last dance for him.

With Eris turning 10, it is quite a big deal as there are lots of guests over at her birthday party. But above all, Eris is required to put on a dance, and given how terrible she is that she spends six months training for this moment. And then comes her birthday part where dancing with another noble kid, she is stumbling and shows just how incompetent she is. But after switching partners with Rudy taking the floor, she at least stays standing. That goes to show just how lost Eris would be without Rudy as those two have developed quite a nice chemistry with each other. And it doesn't hurt that Rudy is making those figurines of Roxy as he's making good money selling those things.

                        Re: Episode 7

Do you want to dance? With the man who invented the figure model business in this world?

A lot of fun in this episode. We get to see how good with the sword Eris has become, with outstanding moves and footwork. At the same time, she spends 6 months preparing for a dance on her 10th birthday, a big deal. And because of the extra time she needs, Rudy gets free time, which he spends learning 3 new languages, Beast-god, which Ghislaine speaks, so he gets tutoring from her, Battle-god, which isn't hard, and Demon-god, which he's stumped on. He also spends more time on making figures, which he's able to sell for a good bit of cash. He also writes to Roxy, with an amusing as hell response, as she's gotten her hands on a model that he made of her, with removable clothing, and as she puts it, the moles in all the right places. Her treatment of her sexual harassing pupil is hysterical.

Rudy then gets pulled in to help Eris in her dancing lessons, for which she is grateful in full tsundere, of the violent kind, mode. At first, the dance is a disaster, but Rudy comes to the rescue, and then figures out how to fix Eris's dancing: Apply her combat skills to dancing, which finally gets her into the proper rhythm. Dance: A success! So much so that young ladies are interested in him, which Eris is having none of. Her father's comments to Rudy: Priceless! Later, he gives both of his pupils, Ghislaine and Eris there own wands, with Ghislaine giving Eris a ring that supposedly will keep evil wolves away at night. The next morning, Rudy wakes up to discover that Eris is in bed with them; both are still in their clothes from the night before, probably tucked in by Ghislaine. He sees how defenseless she is and is about to play a trick on her, when he sees that she's still clutching the wand he gave her. He backs off thinking that Ghislaine's ring works after all.

Up early, he's interested by a nearby tower, goes up into it and hears the sounds of sex he's so familiar with. It's Lord Sauros, Eris's grandfather, and a beast-girl maid. Sauros isn't bothered at all; he's finished, and as the beast girl hurries off, he invites in Rudy to take a look at a mysterious orb above the city. It's a good thing the Lord says, because it's better that way, essentially implying that there's nothing he can do about it, and he might as well hope for the best. Rudy decides to pray: May girls rain from the sky.

Yet another great episode. We see that once Rudy figured out how to use Eris's fighting moves for dancing, the girl is actually a great dancer. It's been a while since I've had a sesaon where there are so many shows I'm so eager to watch, and this is definitely one of them.

                          Episode 8

                          No longer short-staffed.

Two years later, Rudy has his 10th birthday, but it comes at a bad time since there are monster outbreaks everywhere that prevent his family from attending. Seeing that Rudy is just way too strong of a wizard to not have a staff that Philip decides to change that and give him a staff as his birthday present. Not just any ordinary staff, but one personally crafted using only the finest materials. And then Rudy tries to have sex with Eris, but this would be the last time he tries to do so after realizing just how reluctant Eris is, and not to mention this is not that show, so no way that happens here. And then monsters arrive as things are about to change in a big way now that the land is on edge. Not to mention, the arrival of the legendary hero's aide and then a mysterious light. That ending there, things have really changed in a big way as it had been all about training and bonding, but now those things are really going to be put to the test.

                            Re: Episode 8

The name's Cliff, Cliff Hanger. Pleased to meet you.

Intrigue. Infodumps. Intercourse. Wait. Scratch the intercourse.

It's Rudy's 10th birthday, and the Boreas Greyrat clan is preparing a surprise birthday party for him, a fact he discovers prior to the event. We learn that his dad, Paul, is actually Paul Notos Greyrat, with Paul's even scummier brother being the head of the Notos family, which is one of the 4 main Greyrat families. Philip lost out on a power struggle, and his 2 sons were taken to be raised in the main Greyrat household. how connected this was to the lost power struggle, or if it is a genuine custom....?

Party time! And Rudy has fun, first pretending not to know about the party yet acting in ways that threaten to expose it, and then pretends to be overwhelmed by the event, even wondering if his parents have come. His reaction tugs at the heartstrings of those present, with, first Lord Sauros declaring to the private, household party that he's ready to overthrow the Notos family and put Rudy in charge. Then Eris's mother, Hilda, she of the mighty bust, who has always been cold to Rudy, declaring her love and care of Rudy, calling him "my" Rudy, and suggesting marriage between Rudy and Eris. After things calm down a bit, Eris gives him a present, a mighty and powerful hand-crafted staff (as Buckeye notes, there's no way she personally got this for him just by herself; how much of the idea was hers, how much manipulated by her father, unknown). After the revelry dies down, Philip has a serious talk with Rudy. He explains why Hilda had hated him, due to her sons being taken from her, and another Greyrat male walking around like he owns the place...instead of her sons. But she's now on his side, and Philip has a proposal, overthrow the Notos family, to make Rudy the head. Philip will even tie up Eris and toss her in Rudy's bed tonight if he agrees. Rudy doesn't even have to do a thing: Philip will take care of everything.

But Rudy doesn't want conflict and declines, writing it off as he says to Philip as "idle chatter over wine".

And then instantly has regrets, as he realizes that he just missed the chance to have a harem of female beast girl servants. Oh, well....

And he gets back to his room to find Eris in a cute nightie, wanting to sleep with him tonight, since she thought he'd be lonely. Rudy is instantly suspicious of Philip and Hilda having sent Eris and decides not to do anything other than tease her a bit. But when he tells her that because it's a special day, he might do something dirty to her, she responds that it's okay if it's just a little.

At this point, Rudy bundles up his sense of reason even faster than he strips down to his undies, and tossed reason out of the building when he realizes Eris has no objections. Eris, however, said "a little" and that's what she meant, so he goes too far, and gets the violent tsundere treatment as Eris leaves the room. He reflects, regrets and is about to go off to apologize to Eris when she returns. He instantly goes full dogeza apologizing to her, and she accepts his apology, which amazes him. It's too soon. He needs to wait 5 years. She tells him goodnight and that she'll see him tomorrow.

Rudy is elated! Eris promised! All he has to do is wait 5 years! A which point he then remembers: Sylphie! Conflicted heart time. Or would be if we spent the time to reflect on it.

Instead, we then go see what's been going on at home: Paul's been fighting monsters who are appearing all of a sudden; it's why the family couldn't go visit Rudy. But they're in the process of preparing gifts to send to him. The little girls are growing up, though Norn is a crybaby. But there's a strange cloud building up...
There's a sudden massive buildup of mana taking place...
                            Which is noticed by Roxy...
And by a wanderer who isn't bothered by a massive blast of dragonfire and scares away the dragon with just a glare...
By the self-proclaimed (female loli) Great Emperor of the Demon World, Kishirika Kishirisu...
And by the legendary hero, Perugius, who think it resembles the light of summoning, is worried that someone is trying to lift the seal on the demon Laplace, and sends his minion, Almanfi the Radiant to investigate and slay anyone suspicious.

Meanwhile, it's early in the morning and Ghislaine and Eris have gone a long way out of town so that Rudy can test out his new staff and show them his most powerful spell. The new staff is amazingly powerful, and just as he's starting, he stops as the sky goes weird and wild. He didn't do it and doesn't know what's happening.

At which point Ghislaine takes off and is battling an unseen foe, who turns out to be Almanfi. Ghislaine declares herself to be a Sword King, and in the name of her Sword god master, declares that they have nothing to do with it. Almanfi was attempting to kill Rudy, with him being in the wrong place at the wrong time with a powerful staff. Almanfi accepts their word, just as the world turns white. We see that the mystery orb over the town, which Rudy earlier had thought was growing larger, collapses on itself, resulting in a massive blast radiating outward. Almanfi teleports away and Ghislaine is consumed by it as she rushes to Eris and Rudy. Rudy and Eris run for it, but she falls down and Rudy dives to protect her, with both of them consumed by the blast as the episode ends. The title of the episode? "Turning Point 1".

Well, that was quite the episode. With a big shift at the end (c'mon, this is episode 8, there's more story to come!), we also have a lot of fun here:
-Rudy using the chance of him spoiling the party to get Chislaine to show him the base of her tail, for "artistic" reasons (his modeling), Ghislaine's nonchalant willingness to completely drop trou (Thong Song time!), Rudy's fascination by how muscular she is, and the beast-girl maid's reaction to discovering them in that position when she comes to call Rudy to "dinner". LOL!
-How much Eris really is into Rudy by this point.
-That clearly a lot went on offscreen with Sylphie and her reaction to Rudy leaving (but bullying problem? Solved.)
-That the Rudy's home's household is clearly content and harmonious at this point.
-The introduction of a number of brand new characters.

So lots of fun things this episode, setting things up, as it becomes clear that it really was Eris who planned to sleep with Rudy (and we do mean sleep with not too much more meaning than that).

Also fun, putting things together and realizing the "gift" that maid Lillia plans to send to Rudy.

This episode shows signs that a good bit has been cut regarding Sylphie. Whether we ever get to see it, who knows?

As to Hilda attempting to have Eris marry Rudy, this is a medieval fantasy world, and in our world's medieval periods, a 12-year old girl who had hit puberty was considered marriageable (as just one of many examples, the mother of Louis XV, king of France, was married on her 12th birthday; she would also die at the age of 24). Puberty played a major role in whether someone was marriageable in our past on this world. Rudy appears to be inspecting one of his own pubic hairs at the start of the episode, which would be a sign that he has also hot puberty. However, in our world, generally, the boy was usually around 14 before being considered marriageable. There were exceptions amongst the nobility, IIRC.

Naturally we are NOT in a medieval world anymore. Attempts to wed 12 or 10-year olds will result in a visit from local and/or federal members of law enforcement, which is better than my suggestion of a visit from the local members of the PTA armed with blowtorches. Always obey the law!!

The point being that there is oodles of historical basis for Hilda's statements (just as there are oodles of historical reasons that Hilda's statements now lack any validity whatsoever).

                            Another outstanding episode.

                              Episode 9

                              Supards are superb.

And now, a new arc begins as Rudy and Eris get transported to the demon continent, and were found by Ruijerd, and it's a good thing he was there or else things would have been really ugly. Ruijerd is a member of the Supard race, which have a bad reputation. That's because they are mind-controlled by those cursed spears leading them to become mindless killers, and Ruijerd is trying to do something about that. And thus, the journey home begins, as well as the mission to let the world know why Supards aren't who they think they are. Seeing that Roxy is one of them that it's all the more motivation as Roxy's father is quite a nice guy.
