Episode 13

Munching on monks.

So after Tokotsu, Fubuki, and Konton attacked and were repelled, the last member of the Perils, Totetsu, shows up and he's feasting on all the appetizing monks he can get his hands on. There's just no escaping his powerful suction move that makes meals out of most monks. And next on his cravings list is Miroku, who has since laid down his combat staff and is living a quiet life training to be a head priest while his wife Sango takes care of his kids. Even though they were meant for Towa to eat herself, those spicy foods she brought from the present came in handy there as Totetsu doesn't handle spicy foods very well. And then Setsuna's demonic blood is temporarily unsealed so that she could give him some poison to chow down on at point blank. It's great to finally see Miroku in the present as he has changed quite a lot, but of course he's still very much the same in some respects, and it's no wonder why Hisui had some skepticism about him until seeing how helpful he can be when the situation calls for him to do what a monk's gotta do.

Episode 14

We didn't start the fire. He did.

Next monster to take down is Homura, a fire-breathing demon and he's the one who set the forest ablaze many years ago leading to Towa and Setsuna being separated for so many years. Tamano was thrown in jail as Homura had an unrequited romantic relationship with her, and she escaped never to return to the mountains. She nearly collapsed, but was luckily found by Riku, and while it was dangerous to take her back, she lets that hothead know that she's through with him. Once again, no bounty, but at least they made sure a demon won't wreak havoc again. Hopefully, this will be the last monster-of-the-week as it appears that Sesshomaru will be the focus and Kirinmaru will finally show up as the big bad of this show.

Episode 15

Eclipsing the past.

After all this monster-of-the-week stuff, things are shifting gears now as Riku explains quite a lot about the past. There's the black pearl that was created by Izayoi's rouge, and were given to Inuyasha and Kagome for safekeeping. That made them targets, and to keep Moroha safe the two had their daughter live with Koga's clan. Rin is the mother of Towa and Setsuna, all while there's a fragment of the comet destroyed 500 years ago that Inuyasha and Sesshomaru together destroy. It was clear that something was unusual about Sesshomaru, and it turns out he is being manipulated by Kirinmaru, who is trying to fight off a prophecy left by the Shikon jewel. Quite a lot of info dumping here as even though the jewel is long gone, the problems and malice still exist, just without Naraku around. Next time, the episode will focus on Moroha as Koga figures to finally appear seeing that Moroha was raised by the wolf clan.

Episode 16

It's a double-edged sword.

And now, an episode focused on Moroha as she was raised and trained by the wolf clan, and she meets up with her mentor Yawaragi again. But things take quite a turn when Yawaragi's armor is slowly crushing her to death, and the only way to get it off is through the key made by the fire rats. Except that Konton killed them all and has the only remaining key that could unlock it in his possession. And that puts everybody in a tight spot as either Yawaragi kills Moroha to get the key to save herself or Yawaragi dies. And furthermore, Moroha must do it without using the rouge. But in the end Moroha adapted and learned how to wield the Kurikaramaru, while Yawaragi accepted her own death for Moroha's sake. While it was sad to see that Moroha's mentor is dead, at least she realizes that she has two cousins by her side to keep her company. That Konton is quite the bastard that deserves to die a painful death after everything he did.

Episode 17

Going around in circles.

The girls are engaging with Konton and Totetsu together, and seeing that they are dealing with two of Kirinmaru's generals at the same time that things are going to be quite difficult for them having to deal with the both of them. And indeed it is as Totetsu lures the three into a trap by going to a shrine to eat a monk, where the girls have their sense of direction messed up with Konton's trap. Of course, those girls are just way too observant and realizing the situation, Setsuna hurts herself to break the demonic field. The battle continues, and while they are out of the trap, it looks like they will meet the big bad next time, along with Sesshomaru who has quite a lot of explaining to do seeing that he is the father of Towa and Setsuna. Should be interesting to see what this all leads to.

Episode 18

Daughters, meet father.

So after busting Konton's trap, Towa and Setsuna slay the third of Kirinmaru's four generals with the prize ending up in Riku's possession, and then the last general Totestu flees towards Kirinmaru where the girls meet the final boss for the first time. And he shows exactly why he is the big bad there as while those girls have gotten strong, Kirinmaru is just way too much for them to handle, and only somebody as strong as Sesshomaru can go toe-to-toe with him. So not long after seeing Sesshomaru for the first time in a long time, he goes off with Kirinmaru seeing that he still has an obligation to fulfill with him. That was a rather underwhelming reunion there, but at the very least the girls are aware that Sesshomaru is not exactly himself at the moment, and that Kirinmaru needs to be stopped because of the Dream Butterfly.

Episode 19

For her amusement.

Fresh off the girls finally meeting Sesshomaru and getting beaten to a pulp by Kirinmaru, it's a silly episode here as the girls are fighting amongst each other all while Princess Aiya is just looking on in amusement, and it turns out that Aiya is the daughter of the Danjo clan's lord. Pretty much, this is all just fillerish material here that was quite common in the first season of the original series, and at least it's fine to have that in a 167-episode series. But here, it doesn't really have the luxury of having an episode like this. Nevertheless, it doesn't look like this show will be anywhere near complete with only five more episodes and still a lot of building that needs to be done realizing that Kirinmaru is still on a whole different level.

Episode 20

Home is where the half-demon heart is.

Setsuna's childhood is explained here as she once lived in a home for half-demons led by Shiori. She helped keep all the children safe with her barrier. However, when the solar eclipse happens, she loses her powers and the demon Gaga Gozen waits for this opportunity to attack the village. While Setsuna was able to protect it, it came at a cost as she unleashed her demon powers to defeat Gozen. But it's a good thing that Miroku was right there to seal her demon self, and that's why she carries that naginata around in order to stay human. And in order to make sure that she doesn't rely on her demon powers, it made sense to be given to the demon slayers to train. Quite an interesting piece of background information as Setsuna is well-trained, and she needs to be in order to maintain her humanity.

Episode 21

Of pearls and perils.

And now, the truth about the seven pearls is revealed as Zero created them in order to seal off her emotions after the grief she experienced with Toga's death. Riku is also revealed to be working alongside Kirinmaru seeing that he has his scent, but in what capacity remains to be seen. So with a new moon, Towa is sheltering in place at Kaede's house, but when a Dream Butterfly comes within view, of course she can't help but to chase it where she finds Riku, and he reveals that he intends to gather them to return Zero's lost emotions. But before that Totetsu attacks and while a swarm of poisonous bees that is the Achilles heel of Miroku's wind tunnel wasn't enough to give that glutton an upset stomach, being distracted by the girls leaving him wide open did the trick. Even though he has been beheaded, the head still has quite a lot of fight in him. Nevertheless, this just goes to show how naive Towa is, first chasing after that butterfly, and then giving her pearl to him without thinking as Setsuna and Moroha are suspicious about him because he has some connection to Kirinmaru, but Towa didn't think things through and did something she might regret. Hopefully, it doesn't come down to that.
