Based on a mixed media project that blends fantasy, magical girl, and idol elements, Lapis Re:LiGHTs will follow a group of students as they train to become idols. Together, they'll use the magic of music and the magic of... well, literal magic... in their performances.

    Episode 1

    Everything is determined by rank.

So it begins with Tiara starting school at a prestigious academy that trains young girls to be elite witches, and Tiara gets a tour of the place led by Rosetta, a childhood friend she hasn't seen for a long time. There, she meets the other girls who would be her partners on the stage, and then it ends with the ranking system being explained, and that as Lapises that they are on the bottom of the barrel. And the other friends she made are one bad performance away from flunking out of the school. And Tiara's big sister is some sort of celebrity from the look of things. So basically, it's mostly introductions here as the concept of training idols in a fantasy world is at the very least a creative idea. But in any case, the first episode was pretty much what I was expecting out of a show like this, which usually isn't a good sign.

As always, trial period rules are in effect. In a normal season, I'm not so sure I would stick with this show, but with the Saturday lineup being unusually barren that there's enough room for this show.

The main five are nice enough and I'm invested in the two main ships. Some of the supporting girls have nice designs, but I'll keep expectations for them in check. Ie they'll likely mostly be there to say "We exist" and give the cour five development through interaction.

Speaking of ships, we got Blue+Red and Purple+Yellow, but Green needs a lover.

        Episode 2

        The duck stops here.

It's no wonder why those girls are so dangerously close to flunking out as they are finding ways to lose points, whether it be through shouting in class, breaking stuff, or in Rosetta's case working around the clock that it's affecting her studies. Lavie is always making a fuss about everything, Ashley is being reckless, and Lyn is too attached to books that she's never aware of her surroundings, while Tiara doesn't have much in the way of athletic ability. So this episode focuses on Rosetta as she's chasing after a duck that had escaped the pet shop, and that duck is one elusive bird. But it was no match for Lyn's trapping magic. And then it is revealed that Tiara wants to follow in her sister's footsteps as she's a famous idol, and Tiara wants to be just like her. Of course, she's got a long, tough road ahead of her seeing that she need to survive first before she can make it big.

          Episode 3

          Bumps and bruises.

And now, the other girls are showcased through a bumpball tournament, which is dodgeball with a magical twist to it. Thanks to Ashley forgetting Lavie's birthday by accident and Lavie not taking it well that the two end up fighting each other, and they lose the first match against a team led by the Sadistic Candy duo. But they wised up and the team won the next three before their final match against a team led by the IV Klore girls Emilia, Alpha, and Salsa. It was an intense match, but Tiara let her guard down in the end thinking that her team won after going up 15-14 not realizing that the endgame is like volleyball in that the team needs to win by 2. So they lost the final match, but they got a third place finish and respect from the Noirs. That was just silly, but it does a nice job showcasing the other girls in this show as so far, the focus had only been on the main five. So far, there has been nothing doing as far as becoming idols yet.

            Episode 4

            Flower power.

Here comes the Kotohana wa Otome idol group from overseas, and they love flowers and rock'n'roll. Nadeshiko and Tsubaki are quite passionate about it, but not so much with Kaede as she comes to Tiara asking for help. And then Nadeshiko goes missing as she went into the woods to find something and ends up hanging by a branch. While Kaede's shikigami magic was helpful, she ran out of power, and Tiara's wood magic ends up saving the day. And then comes the concert that was simply amazing. Tiara and company got themselves some great fans that will be a big help to them as they struggle to keep their heads above water as they try and make it into the idol business themselves, though that process hasn't started just yet.

              Episode 5

              It's more than a game.

Two things are going on here as there's Tiara and company playing a magical board game with Lucifer and Angelica, while IV Klore and Sugar Pockets are camping inside the forest. Whoever created that game definitely had a lot of time on their hands as it's quite amusing to see those girls doing all sorts of things. Lucifer got a summons, but opted to just brush it off as if didn't matter, so Tiara wants to fulfill it instead and plays the board game with her. Among the things, Lucifer and Angelica put on a nice performance. And then in the woods, Mary is quite paranoid when her message board gets damaged seeing that she only talks through it. Then there's that ending there as a ghost girl appears, and she's quite a talented singer there. Two things were going on here, and next time Tiara and company head out to the forest.

                Episode 6

She has a ghost of a chance with them.

Now that Tiara and company have taken on the summon, they venture into the woods, and into the haunted house searching for Mary. Alpha's hair is quite a useful weapon there able to cut through just about anything with it. Everything that happened was the result of the doll Marianne doing her version of a greeting, and also living there is the ghost girl Garnet, who doesn't realize that she is a ghost. Garnet just wants to make friends, and she's getting her wish as now she's part of IV Klore. Garnet sure has it in her to sing and dance, and this cutie is just what this idol group needs.

                  Re: Episode 2

Not really feeling Yue's group probably because Yue has to be the "mean to the protagonist for whatever reason" character.

                  Re: Episode 3

Nice way of introducing some characters through a sports themed episode. Also the Ashley X Lavie stuff.

                  Re: Episode 4

Tsubasa raises questions, but the performance with her sisters was nice.

                  Re: Episode 5

Sadistic Candy is the best. I think Lucifer and Angelica have stolen the show for me.

                  Re: Episode 6

Nice of Emilia to gain a ghost girlfriend that um really wants to be her friend. Yeah Garnet is already crushing on and lusting for her.
