The third season to the Railgun side-story. This season starts off with the Daihasei Festival that took place in the second season of Index and while magicians caused quite a lot of havoc, there are lots of plotting and scheming on the science side as well.

Mikoto Misaka and her friends prepare for the Daihasei Festival, a seven-day athletic competition between esper schools. Academy City opens to the public for the event, but with the whole town abuzz, no one notices when trouble stirs behind the scenes.

    Onto the next stage.

It's time for the Daihasei, and things are going to be much different in this series than from what happened in the second season of Index. Mikoto and the other competitors give their pledge in the sports festival, and while that's going on cheer squads are battling it out for the stage, all while Gunha comes in to show off his level 5 power. While that's going on, Kuroko is nowhere to be seen in the action as she's rehabbing after getting injured during the last arc and that pain is nothing compared to not being Mikoto's partner in crime for the festival. And then Kazari and Ruiko are back trying hard to keep the peace seeing that with so many high-level espers gathered into one place that destruction is inevitable.

It's great to be back with this show since this spinoff is better than Index and Accelerator. The third season of Index was totally botched, while Accelerator just didn't have that spark that made Index and Railgun what they are, so hopefully this season does things right, and what's promising is that this season will be canonical from start to finish unlike the first two series where the show ventured into filler territory during the last 1/3 of the series.

      Let the games begin!

And the competition has started with the espers using their powers to gain an advantage in the first event, the three-legged race. Of course, some of them just use them recklessly and think they have won the race after using it, and that got them in trouble. But Mikoto, paired up with Kongo with Kuroko sidelined due to injury, didn't fall for any of the traps, and in fact helped saved one of the competitors after their attempt at sabotage goes horribly wrong. So it begins with a win for Tokiwadai, but the next event one of the Misaka clones is competing due to a mix-up. That was some nice action there in the heat of competition.

        Sorry to burst her balloon.

It's onto the next event, the Balloon Hunter contest, and the Misaka clone got roped into doing the event in place of Mikoto herself. And while she was doing well, unfortunately she was undone by a robotic mosquito that injected a nanodevice into her, and she's feeling the pain well after the event. At the very least Mikoto was able to keep up the charade to make others realize that it was her all along, but that was quite a tense situation. While that's happening, Uiharu and Saten are after the rumored Shadow Metal. While the clone did well, unfortunately she just doesn't have the judgment the real deal does.

          Memory mayhem.

And now, things have really gotten out of whack as Shokuho has been manipulating memories with her Esper power to do some evil deeds. It starts off with what appears to be some evil white suits are just security officers doing their jobs. But then things get really problematic when Mikoto finds that Misaka clone taken to some lab rather than the hospital in an ambulance as the driving history doesn't match up with what the drivers said. Further proving that memories are being tampered with is that Mikoto's friends don't even know who she is. Things sure are getting out of hand as Shokuho is definitely a dangerous person.

            Episode 5

It's possible to talk with animals.

With all the chaos going on, it's now up to Kongo to do her part as she recognized that Mikoto as the Misaka sister and is well aware that Shokuho is up to no good. And where she disappeared, Kongo finds a cat who tells her everything she needs to know leading to some mad scientist who sends a bunch of robotic dogs to do his dirty work. She had quite a tough time against those dogs, especially after one of those mosquitoes stings her with a nanodevice, but she got some help just in time. There's an awful not happening between the festival, the missing sisters, and other shenanigans and Mikoto can't exactly be in all those places at once, so it's a great thing Kongo is willing to help out.

              Don't ever hurt her friends.

That scientist managed to split up the group with his pack of robotic dogs and squares off against Kinuho. He things he has the battle won by getting her away from water, but he failed to realize that there's plenty of it underground and that's exactly what Kinuho needed to do in order to turn the tide. And then Maaya comes in to manipulate buoyancy and then he desperately brings out his most powerful robot, but even that's no match against Mikoto, who is just so pissed off that somebody attacked her friends. Way to show that guy what happens when he messes with the Railgun.

                Episode 7

Trust the eyes, not the ears.

And just like that, Shokuho's memory erasure has worn off as Kuroko is back by her sissy's side and came through to rescue Kazari and Mikoto's mother from that girl who somehow has the ability to be in two places at once. As it turns out the one holding Kazari captive is a liquid metal clone. So after taking care of business, it's onto the next phase of the investigation as the answers lie in some deleted piece of data that Mikoto brought back with her power, and that confirms that Shokuho is behind all this. That was quite a statement that Mikoto made there. So with that, the show takes a long break as COVID-19 has been wreaking havoc on this show's production.
