    Episode 1

    Justice for jewels.

So it begins with Seigi acquiring a ring that her late grandmother stole many years ago, and he meets up with Richard, who is a jewel appraiser that not only can determine their value, but also see the history within the jewels. And it just so happens that Seigi's grandmother was actually doing a favor to the person she stole it from as the original owner got that ring through an arranged marriage as her family was desperate to marry into a rich family and she wasn't exactly thrilled that she's marrying someone she doesn't love. With the ring stolen, she decides to commit suicide by being hit by a train, but she survives and after that she realizes that Seigi's grandmother opened her cage. Everything would have been all and well seeing that she was going to return the ring, but when she tried to kill herself, she got arrested and thus, it was never returned, and even though Seigi is offering it up, she won't take it because of the bad memories it holds. Well, I like how this show tackles mysteries in a unique way, which is a solid breath of fresh air. That said, a good portion of the episode was pretty dull, though I did enjoy the parts that really stood out like the truth behind that ring. Anyway, Seigi and Richard are now just starting their partnership, so what happens next will be critical.

As always, trial period rules are in effect and I'm giving it a few more episodes to see if it shines or breaks.

      Episode 2

      Forget about love.

Next case involves a ruby brooch that Homura gave to Mami as those two fell in love and were going to get married, but Mami just couldn't tie the knot. And thus, a mystery comes about as for the reason why Mami refuses marriage and it has to do with Mami's living situation with Akashi as it's not exactly ideal. So in the end, the marriage is called off. So after a solid first episode, this one isn't quite up to snuff as the way this mystery is solved has some issues. That said, it was quite amazing to hear Richard speaking so many languages.

        Episode 3

Keep the cat out of the bag.

And now, the next case involves a kid, Hajime, who is so upset that his beloved cat Milk has been taken away seeing that the cat prevented a lot of misfortune, such as sleeping on the car's hood so that it would stay in the driveway long enough so that it wouldn't be caught in a landslide that would have otherwise happened. But then his father comes in and clears the air in that Milk is being taken care of by his secretary because Milk is a stray cat that carries a disease that's painful for a pregnant woman, and that Milk will be back after Hajime's mother gives birth. Realizing how much pain he filled his son's head that the father promises to keep no more secrets. That was quite an interesting case there going to show that while there are some things that fathers shouldn't let kids know, there are several other things that the kids have every right to know.

          Episode 4

          Fight for all garnets.

Next client is Mito Yamamoto, who was recently dumped by her ex-boyfriend after he found a younger girl he liked, and Yamamoto is at a loss there and out of impulse, she's looking to buy a ruby or diamond ring for herself, but she also has garnet on her mind since she was born in January. So she has a session with Richard, who lets her know that a garnet would actually be the better choice since it symbolizes perseverance and are much more affordable. Yamamoto sure has that fighter's mentality and she should use that to make life better seeing that there are other guys out there who are better suited for her than that dude. And then afterwords Richard lets Seigi know to choose his words more carefully seeing that what might seem to be praise might actually be an insult in the wrong situation. Anyway, that was quite a nice way to look at life in a different light, all brought up because of a certain jewel.

So with that, the trial period ends for this show and it's one of five shows I'm on the fence on in which three of them will make the cut. So I'll need to sit down and make a decision on it as this is going to be one of the last shows in or the first ones out.

            Episode 5

            Your opal or your life.

Next client is somebody Seigi knows in Hase, and he's a nurse helping out somebody's aunt who has dementia. Seeing that Hase is looking at selling her opal to pay for the treatment to keep her alive that he's taking it to Richard to get it appraised, as well as figure out the next course of action seeing that Hata doesn't exactly see things the same way as Hase is simply stealing it without realizing his intent. And then comes the sudden downpour at the end going to show that things just aren't going to be pleasant. Just when it looked like it's going to be repetitive, this takes a much different outcome than the previous episodes as while everybody before Hase is in a better place, not this time around.

So with that, I have decided to give this show another two more episodes before deciding. It started out as one of five shows in the running for three slots, and so far one other show has locked its spot while another show has been axed leaving this and two others for three slots. I'll make a final decision after the next episode to finalize my watchlist.

              Episode 6

Those who deceive others deceive themselves.

And now, Richard is snuffing out a fraudulent jeweler as he disguises himself as Edward Baxter while getting Seigi to play along with this act. Through this charade, he confirms that the turquoise this place has been selling is a fake, as well as just about everything else that's being sold there. Those poor ladies were roped into working for a fraud, but now they are in a position to get a better job since just about anything else is more worthwhile than this. As it turns out, Richard once committed fraud before, but unlike with this guy he did so in a good faith as he realizes the customer's satisfaction is the most important thing and the customer got way more than he bargained for in this case. Still, that guy didn't get what he asked for.

So with that, the extended trial period has ended, and I really like the direction this show has been going recently, so this is the second-to-last show that has locked up its spot for the season.

                Episode 7

The past is coming back to haunt him.

This episode sheds some light about Richard's background, and that he adopted his current identity from his mentor, who is much more of a father than any of his family ever could be. It turns out that Richard is nobility and is his true identity is Lord Claremont, and there is an ugly war going on between family members to see who inherits his late grandfather's massive fortune that he left behind. That was brought to light when Bertuccio, a former competitor of Richard's, arrived at the auction with Richard trying to buy that extremely valuable piece of jade that the client, revealed to be Azuma, is willing to pay whatever it takes to get back what used to belong to his grandfather. In the end, they went over budget, but they had extra sources of funding that was kept a secret until the end. Things are now getting even more interesting now that Richard's background has been revealed.

                  Episode 8

                  Don't rush into marriage.

This episode focuses on a returning character as it's one of Seigi's closest friends in college, Shoko. She was at the marriage meeting with Homura, who was Mami's fiance before breaking up deeming it not in her best interest to go through with the marriage, and while Shoko and Homura have known each other for a long time, they have no romantic interest with each other. However, Shoko is feeling the pressure to marry, and Seigi gives her an aquamarine to let her know that once she understands romance, that's when it is alright to get married as with the way she is right now, she would regret it. So with that, things are changed up greatly with the next episode as now, Richard closes shop and Seigi is wooried about why this is happening.

                    Episode 9

                    Diamond for the roughed.

And now, the truth about the battle for the inheritance is explained according to Richard's cousin Jeffrey as Seigi decides to make the trip to London to bring him back. What happened is that Richard's great grandfather disapproved of his only son's marriage to a Sri Lankan woman and was disowned. Then war struck in which he passed away without an heir, so the family dragged Richard's grandfather to keep the fortune in the family that is revealed to be a 300 million pound diamond. And then that would be passed down to the son of whoever's father married a woman closest to Britain rather than by seniority, meaning Richard is entitled. But then came the biggest condition in that Richard had to marry an Englishwoman, and that's where things are quite a mess as Richard refuses to marry. Something's definitely amiss about all this when somebody attaches this many strings, but that's what it says and realizing the situation, somebody is lying about something given that Seigi outed Jeffrey for Richard's girlfriend problems.

                      Episode 10

                      Down with the treasure.

So it turns out that there was something amiss about what Jeffrey said as in truth the great grandfather actually approved of his son's marriage to a Sri Lankan, and the exocommunication was just a cover-up since the family didn't approve of it. And the inheritance turns out not to be a diamond, but a white sapphire with the difference in the price was given to his son in secret. There's a loophole in the will in that a civil partnership is good enough to get the inheritance, and as such Seigi and Richard pretend to be yaoimates. But then Seigi decides to play the role of martyr by shattering that diamond not realizing that it's actually a white sapphire. While Seigi intended well by pulling this stunt, he should have thought things through seeing that there were much better solutions to this problem than to ruin his own life for the sake of Richard's, and it's a good thing it failed. So with everything all squared away, it's back to Japan, and Richard is back in the shop unexpectedly. That was some solid drama there as there was just so much tension built up, and then to pull that 180 on who Richard's great grandather really was. So while this feels like the ending, there are still two more episodes left.

                        Episode 11

                        Set her free.

And Seigi continues to run into familiar faces as he helps a lady who just so happens to be Richard's former educator, Chieko. She was very close with Richard, but then things went awry on that Christmas day 19 years ago. Richard's mother Catherine asked Chieko for a favor by making it look like Chieko stole her detachable peridot necklace was stolen when in truth, it was hidden in a gift box. This was all done so that Catherine can avoid re-marrying Richard's father and moving to the Amazon with the family. And it worked as his father moved to the Amazon alone while Richard got to stay, but things didn't work out for Chieko as she left for Japan with regrets galore. That is, until Richard finally made up with her. That was quite rough on Chieko as Richard's family has no respect when it comes to relationships. So with that, one more episode left to go as it's going to be about Seigi's father, who has come back home after being away for so long.

                          Episode 12 (Finale)

                          New life, new father.

To end things, Seigi is visited by his biological father Shimeno, who used to be quite abusive towards him and it's no wonder Hiromi divorced her and got remarried to Mr. Nakata, who is far more of a father than Shimeno will ever be. It's a great thing that Seigi has such a loving stepfather who showed Shimeno that Seigi has rejected him and wants nothing more to do with this poor excuse of a parent. Just like with the inheritance mess, Seigi was prepared to become a martyr by killing Shimeno and then himself, but once again he is helped by Richard who realized that something was really hurting him even though Seigi simply said he was quitting to prepare for the civil servant exam. That ending was quite appropriate to show that Seigi is now transforming into a real hero rather than someone who's all about self-sacrifice, something that Richard helped him with. So with that, this show is finished, and while it wasn't the best of shows, I had a nice time watching it.

Overall, how good this show is varies from episode-to-episode. For the most part, the show does what it sets out to do using jewels to help others improve their outlooks in life. The animation is great, the character development is solid, and the mystery parts were nicely done. On the flipside, this show gets very repetitive before venturing into more serious territory in the second half, all while the overall plot is weak. Nevertheless, the show was entertaining as it did just enough to change things up while the character development and mystery aspects made this show worthwhile.
