    Trace on.

This series has a much different feel now that episodes are double in length all while two rookies are now the MCs instead of Akane and Kogami. So it begins with a case where an immigrant-carrying transport drone crashes, and one of the passengers in Rick is nowhere to be found on it. And to solve this case, Arata is brought in as he can trace what happened, and that's how his body was found. It turns out this was orchestrated, and it traces to Yonehara and Sasagawa, two executives of the company. And then there's a lot of disagreement within the bureau, so there's just a lot of moving parts in this investigation. An interesting start there as while this season so far doesn't have the emotional toil that made the first season so memorable, it's a huge improvement over season 2 and while Gen Urobochi is not part of the production team for this season, I'm at least glad IG is back doing the animation. Anyway, this season has a much different feel than the first two seasons.

The hue is clear. The reason is not.

This episode goes to show why Makishima was so memorable as his existence pointed out the flaws of Sibyl and how there's a way to manipulate the system so that criminals can do their dirty work without registering any cloudiness in their hue. Yonehara and Sasagawa orchestrated the crash to happen so that they wouldn't be directly responsible for their deaths, all while they would silence Rick, who would have wrecked their Ponzi scheme had he blew the whistle. Too bad for Yonehara that the mafia silenced him for good before authorities could get to him with the data being leaked out, all while Arata and Kei had to disobey orders to get to Sasagawa. And then comes another case investigating an apparent suicide, and it's a great thing Arata can trace all the events to put the pieces together. That was some great drama there going to show just how overdependent people are on this system. And it's great to finally see Kogami back and being the kickass guy he has always been.

        Hitting a dead end.

So there's an election going on, and it's a dirty campaign on both sides between Komiya and Yakushiji. Yakushiji's secretary Aki is murdered, and while trying to trace the assassination back, that hits a dead end. And then Kei needs to do better with anger management as because of that, he punched someone and was booted off the case to be replaced by none other than Yayoi. And while that's going on, the family histories of the two MCs are revealed as Arata's father apparently killed Kei's brother, while Arata's parents killed themselves. And things aren't much better with Temma as he was branded a latent criminal despite being one of those genetically immune to the Sibyl system. Should be interesting to see where things are going.

          Seeing double.

Lots of action going on here as Yayoi is back on the case, and Karina has a big target on her back thanks to her ability to manipulate public opinion using her virtual sister Ma-Karina. And Enomiya was trying to attack the political debate, but instead Azusawa sends him down on a one-way trip to hell on that elevator that he intentionally caused to malfunction. Enomiya didn't know what hit him as he was nothing more than a pawn. And after a heated election, Karina is the new governor. Lots of nice action here going to show that somebody is out there trying to manipulate things committing crimes without their hues giving away their intents.

            Freedom of religion.

And the case continues to take so many twists and turns as more possible witnesses are killed and more bombs go off. O'Brien is killed, and suspicion falls on three guys in Aschenback, Shionji, and Auma. Signs point to these three involved in a smuggling ring, but of course there's quite a lot unsettled. And now, this guy Viktor is arrested, and it will be interesting to see what comes of that.

              Stop the bombs.

The mystery keeps on adding layers here as the bombers had their hues manipulated by Heaven's Leap. As it turns out, Shinogi and Auma were both trying to stop these bombings, while O'Brien turns out to be the mastermind based on deductions and that these bombings are about putting the corruption about treatment towards immigrants on display, and he faked his death. Lots of intrigue going on here as those Bifrost bastards sure hid their tracks well.

                Episode 7

                Who's the real culprit?

Just when it looked like O'Brien was the culprit, it turns out that Torri is the ringleader all along. And more people bite the dust as Shinogi gets gunned down, while Aschenbach is killed by Maiko after she was taken hostage by him. Then they realize that there's a sixth bomber on the loose as Komiya wasn't killed the first time around. So the suspects are all dead but Bifrost remains at large, all while there's something about Arata as he's revealed to be criminally asymptotic, so there's a lot to be uncovered there in the end.

                  Episode 8 (Finale)

                  Let's explain everything.

And now, some big reveals here as Azusawa was secretly manipulating everything from behind the scenes as he caused that car crash, and that Bifrost consists of Congressmen, Inspectors under them, and the "Foxes" who are manipulated so that they pass through unsuspecting, all while killing Komiya is essential to them to keep Bifrost from being found out. And it ends with Azusawa getting away, and then trying to kill Yayoi there at the end. Quite the cliffhanger things left off there, but there will be another movie coming. Seeing that I haven't watched the Sinners of the System movie series that there are quite a lot of gaps that apparently are important to this show.

Overall, this season is a great improvement over the second season, but still a far cry from the masterpiece that the first season is. While having Production I.G back made a difference, unfortunately Gen Urobochi didn't have any involvement in this season, and it shows as it's just a wild good chase that's more about plotting and scheming rather than the nihilistic things that made the first season great. Anyway, this show has a great story, intriguing characters, intense action, and a nicely done mystery angle with twists and turns. That said, this show has issues with the biggest being the use of double-length episodes as it felt too comprehensive for it to work, all while there are just parts of the show that just felt weak or confusing with the storytelling. In all, it gets back to doing what made Psycho-Pass great with a solid story concept this time around, but with storytelling that could have been improved.
