    Episode 1

    Getting schooled before school.

Azumi is off to school for the inaugural class, and right off the bat, Shuri has made quite an impression with her swordplay, all while Matoi knows how to use that doll. But before this school can get up and running, the place comes under attack by a rogue Zex in space, and while Rigel's blast is powerful, it didn't scratch it as it only revealed the enemy. And then Azumi collapses from the recoil of the attack. Having not watched through Z/X Ignition, this definitely feels different than its predecessor from what I remember watching, mostly because I remember Ignition for being all over the place where as at least this show feels a lot more focused. Anyway, my expectations coming in were pretty low, and at least it's going to keep my interest for awhile. If I'm going to continue to watch this show, I'll have to go back and watch Ignition.

As usual, trial period procedures apply, and even though I have yet to see Ignition, I feel that it's not really necessary to do so.

      Re: Episode 1

This looks like it has potential to be fun. That said considering how the episode ended, it won't be just "fun and games" for the cast. Still I like Rigel and Azumi's relationship already and it's nice they get to be the leads this time. Or well an alternate version of them anyway.

In any case, the only real benefit to watching "Ignition" before hand would "trivia" for lack of a better term. Ie being able to "recognize" a character and being able to note how they're different in this Alternate Story.

        Episode 2

        Live and learn.

And Azumi's desire to live got her to take action, but she and Rigel just aren't strong enough to take out that thing. Just when they were about to bite dust against that enemy from outer space, in comes a dragon and a bunch of veteran girls to overpower that monster. And just like that, school life really can begin. The show just lacks a plot all while whatever plot there is, that's the kind of stuff I have seen time and again. Anyway, I'll give it one more episode seeing that the mood is apparently supposed to shift.

          Episode 3

          Getting whipped into shape.

And just like that, school life starts as the reason for the new academy is revealed, as it is to train the girls so that they can attack in tandem as only an attack from every realm can hurt those monsters. As expected, the training exercise goes horribly wrong, and the girls are relegated to the run-down inn for their dorm seeing that the school admitted one more team than anticipated. There, the girls are trained by Ira, and trained really hard. Well, pretty much, it's another one of those shows made to advertise as it was just terrible all-around.

So with that just like with Ignition, Z/X has been X'd off my watchlist.

            Episode 4

They get to use a training field and Shuri is a bit too excited.

            Episode 5

We get the concept of overboost which is the Z/X helps their partner gain a magical girl form pretty much. I'm sure the guys get their own magical boy forms, but this is about the girls.

In any case, Matoi is the first one to gain a form and she has issues. Ie because of bad events in the past revolving around war, her sister, etc she now sees others as threats and her Z/X reacts to get rid of the threat even if the threat is someone trying to help her.

This is also the episode that confirms the ship between Ena and Matoi in the end. Ena is her new big sis.

            Episode 6

So Shuri isn't so much a samurai master as she is a samurai otaku and her Z/X is ashamed to have been handed down to her. Yunie gains her overboost in this episode and her relationship with Shuri moves forward.

            Episode 7

Rank A vs Rank E gets interrupted by monster attack and Azumi gains her overboost.

            Episode 8

Oh boy the beach episode. No the issue here isn't me being negative about fanservice. I don't have a hatred of boobs. It's just that shows often use this episode to introduce fun twists that worry you.

For one Azumi unlike others can't overboost on command. Everyone else that overboosted once could keep doing it, but then there's Ena.

It's indicated that Ena is a traitor, but of course there's missing information. Ie we don't know if she's being bribed, threatened, or just simply has an attitude of "Yes, I agree our worlds should be destroyed, I welcome death"

This also leads to some speculation. Ie that she'll be the next to overboost (or maybe she's always been able to, but has held off revealing it). I could see her overboosting, defeating the girls in the dramatic "things go downhill" episode, but then she herself gets defeated after that happens.

Ie Shuri gains overboost herself and Azumi gains it back. Having Ena win when only two can overboost, but then lose when all four can would be a good way to explain things. Of course the real loss for Ena will come probably from Matoi pouring out her feelings to her.

Well one of two things would happen. Either the betrayal will devastate Matoi or Matoi will be so in love with her big sis that if Ena told to switch sides she would. Ok, the latter rarely ever happens, but it would make for a really bad situation if it did.

Yeah so episode 9-10 at least are going to be a hard watch. I'm almost tempted to watch the remaining episodes together assuming this is one cour.

              Episodes 9

Mostly about the Student Council leaving and the relationship between two characters.

              Episode 10

Ena betrays them and things are dire.

              Episode 11

While Ena is betraying them, it's clear it's more of a case of her being a "weapon" that has to accept being fired as opposed to herself wanting to fire. The bad guy whom is obsssesed with destruction is the one that gave her life.

              Episode 12

They save Ena, deal with the current threat and we end with a case of the need for recovery. Ena's recovery, the school's recovery, etc. Oh and both Ena and Shuri get their overboost.

Over all the series is decent for what it is. The villain isn't much to write home about. She's your basic "I am your creator, I am god, I want to destroy everything" type.. Also what's odd is they bring up this whole cycle thing.

Ie worlds get destroyed, new worlds get created, and I'm thinking this. If she's truly their creator then she'd be the one making the worlds after they're destroyed. Yet she seems to be dedicated to destruction. Maybe she only creates so she can destroy?

Regardless the story is more about them dealing with Ena anyway. Dunamis for now just seems to exist to be the threat more than a character.

Azumi and Rigel are the main pairing, but Matoi and Ena are the pairing for me. Also Ena got to be a Cat Girl angel, so she wins.
