    Episode 12 (Finale)

    High and dry.

So it ends with Homare building a makeshift raft and escorting Shion back to the island. But doing so wasn't easy as the two were dehydrated and unfortunately drinkable water is unavailable there. So Homare got creative once again, but sending that dirty water down her butt, and the two made it back to the island. And it ends with the girls setting up a trap that Shion gets caught in, and Homare's father coming to the rescue. It wouldn't be much of an ending without some drama there, but nevertheless it works as a stopping point short of the girls getting rescued, though help is on the way. It's another typical episode there just with a bit more drama.

Overall, this show has a great concept, amusing antics, and some decent character development. But seeing that this is a short that it has the issues that are typical for a show like this with mediocre animation quality, too much repetitiveness, and a lack up upwards movement in the overall story. Above all, the show gives Homare way too much attention and not enough to the other girls to make it fulfilling. That said, it's watchable and satisfying as long as you don't expect too much out of it.

    Homare to the rescue.

And Homare is out to go and rescue Shion, and it's a good thing she had the presence of mind to wait it out on a nearby island seeing how she foolishly tried to do too much to try and impress everybody. It was a tough search seeing that Homare was doing it all dehydrated from the sun, but she utilized her survival instincts well and had the presence of mind to look things from a bird's eye view. And that's how Shion was found.

    Sweet rewards.

Bees are sighted, and there happens to be a hive near the camp. But it means the opporunity to have something sweet, and Homare knew what to do. She suffers a few stings in the process, but she can handle it. So while they got their honey, Shion goes missing while going fishing. So now, the girls need to go out and rescue their friend as she's nowhere in sight.

    Daddy knows best.

Homare's father sure taught her well as she's ready for any situation. No sunblock? No problem as squid ink will do the trick provided that there is one available. Need to pee? Anywhere will do in a situation like this. It's pretty convenient how Homare's father taught her everything there is to survival that I can't imagine that he was a normal daddy.

Where there's smoke, there's an onsen.

As it turns out, the smoke was just the steam from a cliffside hot spring that's conveniently there for the girls to enjoy. Too bad it didn't last for long as a storm comes and brings lightning along with it. Asuka should think before she goes into the water seeing that she doesn't realize that water conducts electricity. Even after the storm, there are still ways to get shocked immediately afterwards. The girls survived this storm, and it will be interesting to see what's coming as it's going to be a backstory about Homare and her father next.

    Learn about this place.

With help nowhere in sight, the girls are taking the time to see what their setting is around the island, and Homare finds something inside a broken-down house indicating that there was somebody who was also stranded a long time ago. So through this exploration trip, the girls get some food, a new tool, and they know a bit more about their surroundings. And then there's a pile of smoke there at ten end indicating that there might be somebody else there, or something else. Whatever the case, there's an oasis and what that is remains to be seen.

    Feast on rabbit.

The girls caught a rabbit, but it felt like a horror show for the girls to turn that little fellow into their next meal. Mutsu couldn't kill it, all while Asuka had to bear the burden of cutting it up with a makeshift stone knife. Shion had the easy part in cooking it as she has tasted rabbit before. Nevertheless, it was pretty scary for the girls, but they got a great meal out of it in the end.

Look at what got washed up.

Homare's survival instincts just continue to amuse, first with the starfish that are edible when she was looking for turban shells, and then digging up some fish during low tide that got washed up on shore. The girls get to have a feast for once. Next time, the girls are eating rabbit as the trap has caught something.

    It's a trap!

After fishing for hermit crabs, the girls are building traps to catch another food source. They trap a poisonous frog using a skirt seeing that they are poisonous, but their legs are still edible. And then they build a trap to capture a rabbit, but instead they catch a girl wearing rabbit panties. Pretty humorous take on survival instincts seeing that these girls don't look like they are surviving without really trying, and they have Homare to thank for that.

So with that, the trial period is over, and it will either be this or Magical Sempai that makes the cut. This show has the edge, I would say, but again it's a process.

Homare continues to pull through with her godly survival instincts, first by stopping Asuka from eating what appears to be a taro root but is actually something poisonous, making a shower for Shion, and then making a feast out of hermit crabs and using the old magnifying glass trick to start a fire. She's definitely deserving of the title of the island master seeing that these girls are not as panicked as they normally would be in a situation like this.
    Re: Episode 3

    Master of her domain.

Homare continues to keep the other 3 alive, from saving Asuka from death by poison, to making a shower for Shion, to going seafood shopping for shellfish and hermit crabs with Mutsu, who's willing to help as best she can. I'm trying to remember the last anime I saw that used the plastic filled water bottle as a convex magnifier to light a fire, but I'm blanking.

Now onto more important stuff: Fan Service!!! And the Fan Service here is of lovely young ladies in their undies getting seafood and Shion getting naked for her shower. I'm of the opinion that there is no such thing as gratuitous nudity of an attractive female, but the Fan Service here all has a sensible reason for existence. Indeed, we should actually be getting more than we are, considering we have 4 girls alone on a tropical(?) island. IRL, the girls would be playing a balancing act of having enough clothing to cover them to avoid the worst effects of sunburn and wearing as little as possible out of the sun to cool off. Again, no one would be wearing a sweatervest.

So, this program remains a fun little thing, although it's had some real issues with the suspension of disbelief.

If you wanna live, you gotta eat.

Homare continues to be the very reason why these girls are still breathing seeing that they wouldn't resort to doing all those gross things like drinking water straight from the soil, eating cicada brains, or urchins. Next order of business is to build a shelter, which will be for another day seeing that they could withstand another night on the beach. This show just continues to be quite lighthearted given the situation.

Despite the grim situation the girls are in, things are pretty lighthearted, relatively speaking. Homare's father sure taught her well seeing that these instincts are what keeps the girls alive. Pretty gross stuff there with the fish blood and urine, but the girls will need to do some of these things as their lives are on the line. A rather amusing start there, and it will be interesting to see how exactly they are doing well.

So as usual, the trial period rules apply, and seeing how empty Tuesdays are this season that there's a solid chance this makes the cut. But again, I'll need to wait and see if it is worthwhile moving forward or not.
    Re: Episode 1

And in the real world, they all drowned, trying to swim with all those clothes and even wearing shoes. The shark was very happy. The end.

Well, this was fun, yet dumb. No one seems too sad that they're apparently the only survivors, and as I'm living with a broken AC right now, the girls wearing their jackets with or without a sweater vest, is both dumb and dangerous. And then there's the aforementioned swimming with too much clothing and shoes. Try and swim with a jacket and your shoes, even in a pool, and you'll find out how difficult that is. Try to do that for the hundreds of yards they'd need to have done in the open ocean...fighting the tide all the way. They're all dead in the real world.

Now, what they would need their jackets for is as sun shelters. But wearing them on a tropical island? Hello, heatstroke! To say nothing of sweater vest girl.

    It's a short, and I watched the first 2 episodes back-to-back.

I did laugh, so I'll keep up with it for a bit.
