Naral Island, a continent with swords and magic in which humans and monsters coexist. The terrible Demon King lives there. In ancient times, the first-generation hero defeated the Demon King. Over the many successive generations since then, the Demon King has been resurrected, and the hero who opposes him has likewise reappeared. Girls attend a school for adventurers in order to defeat the Demon King when he appears again.

Though a bit absent-minded, Yusha has the body of a hero. The holy elf Seyla's trouble never ends because she is too serious. The cheerful warrior Fai loves to eat. Mei is a quiet otaku magician. As the four girls aim to be in the hero party, they live relaxed fantasy lives and show no sign of defeating the Demon King no matter how much time passes.

    Episode 1

    Making the hero a zero.

I just love that wall-breaking humor at the beginning with the ending credits rolling after these girls defeated the final boss and clear the game. In this playthrough, the Demon Lord has come back from the future, this time in the form of a cute little girl who is their new teacher at school, and she's out to get revenge on Yusha by having her party expelled so that they can't beat her like they did in the future. Her first attempt at it has everybody exploring a cave to find a treasure and while everybody else gave up, Yusha got that sword and passed a trial to thwart that plan. That was very fun and I love the characters in this show, especially Seira as she's really cute when she's panicking.

So with that, the trial rules apply, though I'm pretty sure this show will make the cut as this is one of my most anticipated shows of the season. The first episode pretty much passed my hype test.

That was kinda amusing. It didn't rate too high, had a few moments, but won't be one of my favorites of this season, even if I stick with it.
My Avatar: The lovely Mikuru Asahina from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. Why do I stick with her in a world of constantly changing avatars? Because:
      1) Her friendly, playful attitude in that picture, (despite being forced unwillingly into cosplay), reflects my own friendly, playful personality;
      2) Mikuru-chan is an excellent combo of smoking hot and super sweet cuteness; and
      3) It makes it easiier for me to find my own posts in threads.

        Episode 2

        Everybody, lead the way.

This time, the girls are tasked with picking a leader, but that's not easy to do as they are great in one thing, but terrible in another that makes each of them unfit to be leaders. Yusha has incredible luck, Seira knows everything, Fai's strength is unmatched, and Mei's magical skills are on another level, but each girl just doesn't have it all together to be the leader. That was pretty hilarious seeing those girls try and fail to be a leader, as well as that sentai-esque introduction when they decide to all become leaders. This show just continues to be fun and everything the characters do is cute.

          Episode 3

          Cat got your quest?

It's quest practical time, and the quest the girls get is to find a cat. And five more after that as they keep drawing the quest to find cats. Then they finally get a different one, but that didn't stop them from finding another cat as they just happen to stumble upon a girl whose cat was kidnapped by some giant spiders. It took a day, but they finally got the cat not realizing that this wasn't their assigned quest. That was pretty cute once again, and Seira and Mei continue to be the best characters in this show as Seira is quite a skilled archer when her eye sight isn't failing her, and Mei has collected some really powerful cards that saved the day. Next time, it's off to the beach as every show like this is bound to have a swimsuit episode at some point.

            Re: Episode 1

Wow this show is over already. Not really, but that was a good way to start and fun references even if I only got some of them. The party of 4 makes for some great eye candy and they're great in their roles. However the real fun is Mao. She's the best kind of Demon Lord. I'm rooting for her.

            Re: Episode 2

Mao admits defeat? Chibi trying to stand in response to Seira saying the leader needs to be bipedal was adorable. Speaking of, they would all be leaders in the end wouldn't they?

            Re: Episode 3

Surprise lack of Mao, but we got plenty of cats. Hopefully Mao will be back soon and hopefully we can meet the princess from the OP. In any case, this is the best show of the season for me. Was from the start, still is now.

              Episode 4

Not supposed to be a day at the beach.

Here comes a beach episode, and while the girls are supposed to be on a summer break quest, only Seira took it seriously while the other girls treated this visit to a remote island as a vacation. And of course, lots of crazy things happen mostly in the way of strange bests from a hermit crab that can move sand castles to a melon that can swell up or multiply, and mackerel with legs. And of course, an evil kraken monster that Yusha defeated with her powered-up sword, and Chibi finished if off by eating it. That was another fun episode there, and those rather unconventional style of swimsuits really suite the girls well.

                Episode 5

                Make way for the hero.

Here comes the princess as she has come into town in search for the hero, and after proving that Yusha is the hero, she gets very attached to her. She's not exactly thrilled that Yusha hasn't been getting the love that a hero does, so she puts on a festival. That was pretty funny what went down there, especially with the play with her knights role playing as those girls. And then things get out of hand when a bull goes on a rampage and Yusha had to stop it. Just when things couldn't get any crazier, Rona becomes a student at the academy. Rona sure made a fine entrance there going to show that she's doing a lot more than just being a princess.

Not that this wasn't already my favorite series of the season, but Rona sure helps it move up the ranks. From 1st place to um beyond reach.

                    Episode 6

Even a demon lord gets demon lord fever.

This episode is focused on Mao as she falls ill having come down with a case of demon lord fever. And she looks back at everything that has happened since her latest defeat to the heroes that happened almost 1000 times now. But seeing that she came into this incarnation as a little girl and people are being kind to her that she's certainly has had a change of heart. Of course, things might be different should the heroes know her true identity, but for now they are just teacher and student. That was nice to see everything going down, and it was pretty hilarious how the other girls stopped Seira from doing housework knowing that she would just make a mess of things. Pretty cute to see it all going down as demon lord or not, Mao deserves all the love she is getting.

                      Re: Episode 6

Wow this episode was amazing. We get a serious look at how Mao's existence isn't a happy one. Every 3 years, she's revived just to die again. She's pretty much a trophy to be hunted for the hero with a lonely existence.

Or wait maybe they've been in a loop for awhile. If so then that means the cycle probably involves Mao losing "memories" being forced to be a lonely Demon Lord again until the next time Yulia messes up the spell. So either the loop will broken by Mao dying once more and Yulia taking another path.

Actually if the Demon Lord revives/dies on a 3 year cycle then the Hero is chosen/replaced on the same cycle too. Unless one hero kills the same Demon Lord several times...

Ok, it's possible they just picked 998 defeats and 3,000 years of memories at random.

We now have potential thanks to this episode that we might get a somewhat serious ending. One where Yulia will have to confront two conflicting sides.

Yulia does want to help people and is a caring person. However she's also seemingly addicted to the glory of being a hero and the darker sides of it. Including her desire to have an enemy to defeat, read beat up.

If/When she finds out that Mao is the Demon Lord. She might be forced to consider her "desires" now that the Demon Lord would be more than just some stranger to again beat up.

One thing that helps Endro is that it knows and understands what I call the rule of "Comedy doesn't have to mean...." To give some examples of what I mean...

Comedy doesn't have to be mean you can't have heart warming moments.

Comedy doesn't have to be mean characters can't grow.

Basically when a show uses comedy as a limiter it can be a problem. For example we get some comedy during the fights the girls have, but they don't use the fact this is a comedy to make the girls pathetic. They're shown to be quite capable. Do they sometimes struggle? Yes. But any struggling we've seen so far at least feels like a case of "Sometimes enemies are dangerous" as opposed to "Ha Ha, they're pathetic".

                        Episode 7

                        Fight the good fight.

And now, Rona is exposed to the crazy lives of the party members in a more personal way. She went on an adventure with Yusha, while things just didn't work out with Seira and Mei. But with Fai, she got way more than she could handle with her as she's and athletic freak, something that Rona just isn't cut out for. And then comes the eating competition where Fai's appetite is huge. But seeing how she had to eat her share of melons that she hit her limit, and Rona had to pick up the slack a bit. Those two sure did get along quite well there as the princess is doing a lot more than just being a princess.

                          Episode 8

                          Make way for the heroes?

The princess has been kidnapped. Well, not exactly as Rona staged this whole kidnapping so that the heroes can be heroes. Of course, that charade was pretty silly to begin with having those paper mache boulders, those weaklings posing as monsters, and those demon lord generals actually being knights in cosplay. But one thing that was real was Rona considered as a friend, and not as the princess as no matter what happens, the heroes are there for her. That was a nice way to fool those heroes there with Mao making them believe that she used a Cartado in order to hide her identity as the demon lord. Looks like next episode will be focusing on Mei as it's all about Cartado.

                            Cards do grow on trees.

And now, an episode primarily focused on Mei as she's attending a festival for Cartados in a world where they grow like plants. There, the girls take part in a contest to capture the rarest Cartado card, and just when all hope seems lost with a rare Cartado being snatched right in front of them, they find one that is larger than usual. Even though it's a common card, the size of it got Mei the win. And then it all gets burned in a bonfire as an offering. Pretty fun episode once again going to show just how knowledgeable Mei is about Cartado.

                              Episode 10

                              Only in your dreams.

And now, an episode primarily focused on Seira as the girls take on a quest that gets them stranded on a snowy mountain in the middle of a nasty blizzard. They try their best not to fall asleep, but then the tent caves in. The girls start having dreams that are just too good to be true, and that's all the doing of a monster. Being the serious and realistic one, Seira wakes up and and enters into the dreams of the girls to defeat the monster. Those were some pretty crazy dreams there with things going totally off the rails when they merged into a tasty giant Cartado. While Seira would love to have bigger boobs, she knows full well it's not happening, but a cleaner room is something she can work towards accomplishing. Pretty nice way to show what kind of person Seira is as she's the type of person who is always on top of things.
