The protagonist, Masaru, has just inherited a big fortune after the death of his father. However, people are trying to get their hands on it by any means necessary, even if it means killing him. Narumi helps Masaru from being kidnapped after fighting strange figures. He finds out that they're not humans, but wooden puppets with amazing strength. After a hard fight, Narumi is forced to admit that he's no opponent for them; and just when he starts to think that Masaru will be captured, Shirogane, Masaru's watcher arrives from France with a weapon, the puppet Arlequin. Here begins the story of Karakuri Circus.

Heads I win, tails you lose.

The chaos continues, this time with the focus on Mingxia as she's battling Jones, the gambler. Of course, betting against him is a bad idea, not because Mingxia has bad luck, but because Jones is a cheater as he can manipulate the bets at will. So she takes matters into her own hands and takes luck out of the equation with that sucker punch that breaks him. While that's going on, George and Ashihana have their own battles, and while Ashihana was given the option to just walk away, he has his pride. It's all action here as it goes to show that Faceless means business.

    Face-off against Faceless.

Now that the backstory has been fully explained, it's go time now as things are quite chaotic. At least Masaru knows just how no-good his "father" was, and that he's determined to not let him take over, but before that Eleonore has been kidnapped, all while Faceless, who is actually Sadayoshi, is out to cause this Zonapha epidemic around the world using the silver goddesses to do his bidding. And just when Guy was about to bite the dust, in comes Narumi to save the day, and then it's back to the hospital that's under attack. Things are finally moving again, and it's so chaotic.

Papa's got a brand new body.

And the long backstory finally finishes up as last time Sadayoshi was revealed to be the cause of why all hell broke loose, with the last piece being how he managed to inhabit Masaru's body. It turns out that only a small portion of his soul made it in as Shoji sacrificed himself to keep that bastard from taking Masaru for himself as he was downloading his mind into his, but Shoji puts a stop to that by drowning in a tub of acid. But even so, Sadayoshi is back in a new, artificial body and is ready to take everything away to stick it to Shoji, and it turns out that Sadayoshi is Jin, the jealous brother of Yin. So through all that, Masaru finally understands the situation as he calls Shoji grandfather just before he dies, all while Sadayoshi is the guy who started this whole mess and needs to be stopped. And it all starts with rescuing Shirogane from him. So while the backstory was dragged out, hopefully this will lead to better things moving forward as I lost sense of a lot of things during this stretch, but I understand how important it is to make sure everything is all set up.

    Lurking in the shadows.

And the reason why Sadayoshi, or rather Dean as that's his real name, is so despised is revealed as he stole the everything away from Shoji. He used to serve as a subordinate, but then things boiled over for him when Angelina chose to fall in love with Shoji instead of him. Then to stick it to him, he put himself into Shoji's grandson. That was quite the elaborate scheme there that he pulled off, and as if all that wasn't bad enough, he has stolen Masaru's identity all for the sake of his grudge against Shoji. No wonder why Masaru is the hunted as not only does he have a massive fortune, but he has Sadayoshi within him, who is an evil man.

    The price of smiles.

Not long after Eleonore was born, automata come knocking and are after the soft stone that Angelina gave to the baby, and the automata Francine took the baby to get her out of harm's way. And after stumbling into a well, the Aqua Vitae activates causing the water there to become acidic, and Francine used the last of her life to calm her down and dispel the toxic waters. Things just continue to be so messed up in the world that the characters have been living in as it's no wonder why Shirogane has such a chip on her shoulder. But at least they got a smile out of her even when all hell broke loose. It will be interesting to see where this all leads to.

There's only one, and he's not it.

Things are getting quite complicated here as now Shoji tells Masaru that Sadayoshi is not his son, thus in turn Masaru is not his grandson. The guy to be known as Sadayoshi was adopted by Shoji, while his only child is Eleonore, who is known today as Shirogane. He was trying to make peace there as this Francine was tossed away because she couldn't laugh, and the soft stone inside Angelina was sought to convert Zonapha sufferers into shiroganes. Lots of background information as has been the case for recent episodes as what is clear is that not everybody is who they think they are in this whole ordeal.

    From a different perspective.

And now, Masaru inherits Shoji's memories of his past that dates back to a time long ago when he created the shiroganes that Masaru now uses. He learned under Yin, and then came Tohno-Dayu, or Angelina, and they fell in love with each other. But of course, things didn't exactly go well as she vanished after saving him from an inferno, and then he drank some Aqua Vitale hoping to be with her for all eternity. Pretty interesting backstory that was as it goes to show what Masaru is dealing with as he's being used like a puppet.

He's not who he think he is.

It was suspicious that Masaru obtained his fortune when his father died, and as it turns out he is Sadayoshi, at least in mind. As it turns out, Masaru is an illegitimate child and Sadayoshi transferred his mind over to Masaru, but it's not a complete takeover. But what that means is that Masaru can now use marionettes that Sadayoshi built, which saved his bacon back there. That was quite a huge reveal there going to show that something was amiss in all this as usually when someone dies one person does not inherit everything, much less to an illegitimate child.

    The joke's on him.

Narumi is back and stronger than ever after he got equipped with some new weapons, but in the end the Francine he destroyed was a fake and the real one is apparently Shirogane, whose real name is Eleonore, as the guy who told Narumi to go to the Sahara just sat back and watched all the fighting go down. That was just a bitter pill to swallow there with lots of people sacrificing their lives to put an end to the Zonapha and make Narumi this overpowered freak only to learn that they got the fake and that the real one actually might be his closes ally. Interesting to see what happens next in light of all this.

    Going down together.

Here's an episode focused on Lucille, and she saved the day with Narumi in no condition to fight after his body received so many holes. But in taking out Dottore, she bites the dust, all while both the good guys and bad guys are dropping like flies. Just sad to see Lucille going out there, but she has been living on borrowed time. And now, Francine awaits.

The gears of fate are turning.

And deeper into the labyrinth everybody goes as they aren't leaving until Francine is destroyed. The enemies and traps just keep on getting more dangerous as Narumi got hit with spikes protecting everybody, all while Rockfield sacrificed himself to stop the gears from crushing everybody who is still left. Pretty twisted all this is, but Narumi made it to the end where the four generals await, with Francine watching over everybody.

    Round and round they go.

It's off to the Sahara to square off against the Midnight Circus, and Narumi and company are in for quite a fight against the Four Pioneers. They manage to defeat their first opponents as Narumi wasn't fazed by the guy with a Merry-go-round on his head, all while Fatima and Mingxia used a wardrobe malfunction to their advantage against those brothers. They won the battle, but the war is just beginning.

    Francine doesn't laugh.

That was just totally mad what Jin did in order to steal Francine for himself. And that's how it all started as Yin made the Aqua Vitae in order to cure Francine, but it never reached her as she was locked up and burned to the ground just as Yin was ready to give it to her. And that gave rise to the first puppet using Francine's appearance and hair, but just one problem in that she can't laugh. Pretty tragic how everything went down as Yin and Jin couldn't have been more opposite of each other, and Lucille lived through all that.

    This is not equivalent exchange.

This episode tells the backstory of the aqua vitae that was exhausted to save Narumi, and it's no wonder he got the last of it as the one who created this looked just like him, while the person he fell in love with looks just like Shirogane. The two brothers ventured from China to the Czech Republic where they meet up with a poor girl from the slums who had been stealing to survive, but everything changed when a sick child died because somebody ratted her out. That's when the Narumi look-alike Yin fell in love with Francine, and that drew a jealous reaction from his brother Jin. It will be interesting to see just where all this led to as it can't possibly be good.
