A young priestess has formed her first adventuring party, but almost immediately they find themselves in distress. It's the Goblin Slayer who comes to their rescue?a man who's dedicated his life to the extermination of all goblins, by any means necessary. And when rumors of his feats begin to circulate, there's no telling who might come calling next...

    Episode 1

    All goblins must die.

That was quite an intense start to this show, first with the goblins going perverted in stripping those ladies of the party to rape them, and then at the end where the Goblin Slayer, on a mission to exterminate goblins from this world, kill the children who haven't done anything wrong. But leaving them alone would only bring bigger problems later on as they are the type to hold onto grudges and act on them. The first 2/3 of the episode didn't really have my attention, but the last third did as there's this question of morality that is raised with what Slayer is going. These characters don't have names, so keeping up with them is going to be a bit of a challenge.

So with that, I'll give it the usual trial treatment and when the time comes, I'll make a definitive call.

I had heard this was a brutal series, but I'm impressed that there's not a hint of censorship. Reminds me a bit of the first impression of another White Fox series, Akame ga Kill!, though I didn't love the direction that ended up going, so hopefully this can maintain its level of quality or even increase it. So far it's about on the level of Slime, which I'm very pleased with.

        Well, that was...intense.

It really felt like a standard D&D scenario to start things off, although somehow the sole guy just reminded me of someone from the doomed guild in SAO. But, yeah, this was pretty hardcore, and shows the obvious side of things in fantasy worlds with dungeons and monsters: If every hero was successful, there'd be no monsters. And monsters are monsters for a reason.

          Episode 2

          Here's the silver lining.

There were quite a lot of complaints about the mature content in the first episode, so Crunchyroll puts that disclaimer in response to it. This episode, there was much less to complain about as while it continues to be violent, nobody gets raped. Just an interesting backstory focused on the Cow Girl, who is living the life as a farmer, and a quest to kill some more goblins that went much more smoothly this time around, all while Slayer shows why he's a silver ranked adventurer. And then there's the ending there as an elf has appeared in town. It will be interesting to see what her deal is and what she has to add to the party.

So after two very good episodes, this show has pretty much locked in its spot on my watchlist.

            Re: Episode 2

Not nearly as gripping as the first episode. We start to learn a bit about Goblin Slayer, but not enough to really justify spending the entire episode without much else. Still one of the better new shows of the season overall, for sure. I don't think it'll be a top favorite of the slate anymore, but I'm still very interested in the world and especially characters, and I look forward to learning more. Of course, nobody has a name, so that does pose a problem with becoming fully invested in the characters.

Wait, are you trying to say "Cow Girl" isn't a name?

This is a good show, and one of the original shows that I look most forward to each week.

                Episode 3

                Hang around the campfire.

After a chaotic opening to this show, this one is quite chill as a party has been assembled to go on a goblin extermination quest consisting of the slayer, the priestess, an elf archer girl, a lizardman, and an old guy. Most of the episode is spent talking as the party members get to know each other, but next time that ought to change now that the elf has fired the first shot, and the party is getting ready to kick some goblin ass.

                  Re: Episode 3

I've seen complaints that this episode was filler. I disagree. Definitely slower than the first two episodes, but we get introduced to 3 important new characters, and the Priestess gets a significant talk-to from the Witch. The result is some important world-building takes place, and we find out some more about the characters.

I do wonder about all the dice rolling references to gods of chaos and law. Those are pen & paper RPG dice being rolled in the OP.

Spoiler ->Will the big reveal be that this all takes place in a game, explaining why the characters don't have names, and that the "gods" are just people playing a game?

Either way, it won't impact my enjoyment of this series.

                    Re: Episode 3

That might've had less goblins than SAO. Some dragging, but a decent establishment of the main party for at least this little arc.

                      Episode 4

                      He's an Ogre Slayer, too.

While he entered this nest to take out a lot of goblins, the dungeon boss is not a goblin, but an ogre. Well, it makes no difference as while he's called the Goblin Slayer, that doesn't mean he can't add Ogre Slayer to his title as while the ogre was a formidable foe, he went down pretty easy once he tapped into the power of the sea. That's some smart thinking there, and that's going to be required if he has any hope of exterminating the goblins.

                        Re: Episode 4

With the introduction of higher-level enemies like this, I do wonder how far we'll see our characters go. Obviously this is a world in which the Demon Lord would be the ultimate final boss, but with a protagonist so uninterested in anything other than goblins, what will potentially bring us to that point?

                          Re: Episode 4

Although we've seen GS as a sort of pure killing machine, and there've been clear signs of it, this episode shows that despite his obsession, he's one smart, creative cookie, very much a thinker and plotter. His inventiveness in dealing with the situation has been on display before (such as Ep. 2 where he had Priestess use her protection spell to block the exit of a nest, causing the goblins inside to die of smoke inhalation, what he does here completely tops that by a mile.

Another great episode showing the gritty, gory and dark side of the RPG/Fantasy world.

                            Episode 5

                            An adventurer's life ain't easy.

This episode shifts the focus to a couple of struggling adventurers as the guy loses his sword when it gets stuck inside a rat he had just slain, and with a bunch of roaches on the attack, the two had to retreat and leave the sword behind. I heard of losing weapons because they broke, but not something like this, which never came to mind in an RPG. It just goes to show how tough this line of work is, and it's an even worse idea to take a shortcut like that brat did at the end when he took the treasure for himself, and it would have gotten ugly had Goblin Slayer not been there. It's good to see other characters getting some attention going to show what kind of world these guys live in.

I can't say I found myself particularly caring about these characters, but it does help to flesh out the world they inhabit just a little bit more. Hopefully some of what this episode introduced will play into future developments in a way that keeps it from seeming like a waste.
