    Episode 8

    Show no mercy.

Damn, that was just brutal there as Ains goes to show just how powerful he is, and those poor adventurers just didn't know what hit them. Those Foresight guys were such fools for thinking they could take on a lord, especially Hekkeren thinking he could lie his way out of this situation. That just goes to show how evil Ains is when it comes to getting what he wants, and he definitely played the villain part well.

Looks like Ains is establishing himself firmly as the worst villain to ever exist. The only way this kingdom has any chance of surviving is if Budget Gilgamesh grovels his ass off and Ains decides to be a "nice guy" again and not just murder them all. He seems to change his alignment on a whim every few episodes, so who knows how it's all going to shake out? There's certainly no redeeming him, at any rate.

        Episode 9

        If you can't beat'em, join'em.

Jircniv was acting pretty desperate there as in light of everything that's happening, he decides to go to Nazarick and form an alliance with Ains. Quite a big risk that was, but with his empire on the ropes he had to come up with something. In the meantime, Fluder has betrayed him and Jircniv is preparing for the worst case scenario. Ains is definitely up to something there as he's playing the empire for fools, and it will be intriguing to see what comes of all this.

Oh boy, Ains is making a country. He acts so civilly it seems very much at odds with how he was right up to the very end of the previous episode, but he still has sinister plans, and Demiurge even more than him.

            Episode 10

            Ready for war.

After everything that happened, a huge war is about to break out as the Re-Estize Kingdom is planning a counterattack against the Empire. They think they can take on Ains, but they are about to find out that going against him usually ends up not going well more often than not. So pretty much, it's all setup here as everybody is getting ready to do battle. It will be interesting to see how this turns out as things have gotten quite chaotic after the beatdown Ains delivered, and all the choas that Demiurge stirred up.

A lot of talking and setup, but as long as it leads to some greatness for the last stretch of this season, I'll be happy. The idea of Ains going to war with a kingdom is pretty exciting, though I fear for the latter.

                Episode 11

                Fear the goblins.

The kingdom tries to stick it to Ains by attacking Carne Village, but they were in for a rude awakening as Enri uses her secret weapon to save the village by summoning the goblin army she made allies with. And as such, those soldiers didn't stand a chance, and Lupis is letting the arrogant prince know that those who get on her lord's bad side will not live to tell about it. That prince should have chosen his targets more carefully, but above all he should have known when to quit as it was all over once those goblins arrived.

                  Re: Episode 11

A very natural way to tie the plots of the season together, and satisfying to see it play out. Carne has to be the most dangerous village to live in. If Enri's goblins hadn't proven to be so effective at saving it time and time again, I can't imagine any humans would still choose to live there.

                    Episode 12

                    A power worthy of applause.

And add Raeven and his army to the list of idiots who just didn't realize that going up against Ains was a bad idea. They were slaughtered just like that with those monsters on the rampage in the form of those clumps of jaws as shown in the opening animation. Ains has really done it now, and it's no wonder Gazef would rather die than to turn his back on the king to become a subordinate to Ains. That was quite a show of power there, and now this season will end with a duel between Ains and Gazef as no matter what, Gazef is determined to go down fighting.

"A lot of people are going to die, but I feel nothing."

Yep, that's pretty much Overlord in a nutshell.

                        Episode 13 (Finale)

                        Do not resuscitate.

So it ends with Gazef easily being defeated by Ains as there was just no way he stood a chance. While he could bring him back to life, Gazef was hellbent on being killed off for good. As such, Ains has taken over the kingdom, and he uses a trick to make it look like he and Momon are two different people when Albedo was about to slaughter that kid for throwing a rock at his army. So the story continues, and Ains sure showed his villainous side here in this season.

Overall, this season continues to do everything that made the first two seasons good and not so good. It as great animation, a strong story, and intriguing characters all-around, all while inconsistent pacing is what hurts this show the most. This season, the show does a nice job in portraying Ains as a conquerer who will do anything to get what he wants, which is done much better in this season than the last, but at the same time it spends too much time away from him making him seemingly irrelevant. In any case, it's a story that just continues to build on itself.

                          Re: Episode 13 (Finale)

The most honorable duel Ains can give Gazef is killing him to the point of never being able to be resurrected within the first second of it. His only mercy was letting anyone escape their life, but he has definitely been even more villainous than usual. Even his showing as Momon stopping Albedo from killing innocent people was just an act to further manipulate the civilians of the city he's taking over.

This was a great season. The best yet, for sure.
