    Episode 18

    They ain't clowning around.

And it's another attack, this one all done in a single episode as a bunch of clowns are causing all sorts of trouble in Tokyo. Lots of changes at the top after the previous battle with Juzo taking Arima's role, all while Furuta is the new head of the CCG. So they take out the clowns with Urie going after the leader, but then he goes berserk and Saiko had to come to the rescue. The CCG sure did flex their power there at the end by executing all those clowns in front of the CCG officers going to show that they mean business, all while Saiko's relationship with Urie went forward there. Nevertheless, this episode puts all the problems the second half of :re has had as this was something that should have taken two episodes to adapt, but it was all rushed into a single episode leaving some of the finer and critical details out.

      Episode 19

      Until death do they part.

And Kakeki ties the knot with Touka here going to show that it's possible for everybody to get along, all while Touka is pregnant. Pretty nice to see it all going down as those two were certainly meant for each other. However, the good times aren't going to last very long as there's an attack on the horizon. As long as they are ghouls, there will always be conflict to be found.

        Episode 20

There's a new ghoul in charge.

And just like that, the good times ended way too quickly as Goat is being hunted down, all while Furuta is about to unleash his ultimate weapon. That was some battle between Urie and the clowns Shiko and Roma as those two were just wouldn't go down so easily. But in the end, Urie was quite resourceful. Now, Furuta has started to put his ambition into motion there killing Iwao and causing massive destruction there. Once again, the story was just poorly put together during times of action as I can't make out what all this is trying to be, but one thing that is clear is that Furuta is the biggest obstacle to Goat's goal of harmonious living that Kaneki had envisioned.

          Episode 21

          We fight together.

It took long enough, but finally the CCG realizes that they had long forgotten what their mission has been all along, and that it to maintain peace and order in Tokyo, something that had been lost thanks to all of the bad apples within the organization, as well as the vile ghouls who gave them a bad reputation. So everybody is working together, but Mutsuki isn't one of them. Not until Urie and Saiko stop him from killing himself. While this didn't have as big of an impact as it could have, it's solidly done as it's great to see everybody finally fighting in the name of justice, something that wasn't happening since the beginning.

            Episode 22

            Time to take action.

Rize has appeared in Kaneki's dream, and while Rize reminds him of everybody he killed, that just serves as motivation for him to put an end to this conflict once and for all, but he can't do it alone. And then Furuta is using those monsters to turn humans into ghouls in an instant, and that's a big problem. Not to mention, that "live broadcast" of it only makes him even more of a menace. But Kaneki has had enough sitting on the sidelines as he formed Goat so that something like this would never happen again. Hide was quite helpful there seeing that Kaneki once killed him before coming back to life as a ghoul, and that face under the mask is a reminder of that.

              Episode 23

              Rotten to the core.

And now, the final battle is on with Ayato and Kaneki going after the core, while the CCG and ghouls are taking out all the subordinates. Pretty much the same formula as the battles in this season in that there's action, and stories without much substance to them. So after taking out a lot of the ghouls, Furuta awaits for Kaneki as the final battle is around the corner. One more episode left to go.

                Episode 24 (Finale)

Making the world a better place.

So it ends with the climactic battle, and it's only natural that Nimura's background is explained as he wasn't always this much of a madman. While he was a tough opponent, Kaneki's willpower won the day, and thanks to his exploits, Tokyo was rebuilt and his dream of coexistence is now a reality, and six years later he has a daughter. While the ending was great contentwise, the adaptation just doesn't do justice to how it is in the manga going to show just how much I miss Shuhei Morita as he did an excellent job in directing even if the content of Root A was an abomination. I would take a well-adapted bad concept than a poorly-adapted great concept, though to be fair two cours just isn't enough to adapt this series.

Overall, this show is a poor adaptation of a great manga as Shuhei Morita's absence is greatly felt, as well as the way the stuff in Root A just doesn't mesh well with the season's content. The first half was decently adapted as it was clear what this show was trying to accomplish, but the second half was just rushed, fragmented, and full of plot holes that probably would have been patched up with another cour to work with. That made for a season so confusing and full of randomness that is exacerbated in the action scenes. That said, the show's content is great, the characters are full of intrigued, and the action itself is nice even if the story around it isn't. So to sum things up, just read the manga, at least after the first half as while the first half was solidly adapted, the second half was just a major rush job.
