Under the cherry blossom tree at Sakuragaoka High School?s Entrance Ceremony, Miou Aida meets Haruki Serizawa for the first time.
?My name is Miou and it means beautiful cherry blossom.?
?I?m Haruki. It stands for sparkling spring.?
As spring babies, they both feel an unexplainable connection.

Ever since that day, their eyes chased after each other.

Miou, who is in the arts club, is reserved, while Haruki, who is part of the movies club, is active and very social. Despite their completely different personalities, they found themselves walking home together after school every day.

While many mistook them as a couple, their relationship remained a little more than friends, but not yet a couple. Even as their feelings for each other grows stronger?

As they stop to sit on the steps of a deck on their walk home, Miou cannot help but ask,
    ?Haruki?do you like anyone??
    Haruki replies,
?I do like someone?what about you??

Just 10 centimeters between their hands.
It?s just 10 centimeters, but the distance remains?

The distance between them is small, yet big.

So now the focus is on Haruki and Miou as those two have several things in common that start with their names being spring-themed and the artistic type. But their attitudes couldn't be any more different as Haruki is obstinate and impulsive, while Miou is lacking in confidence and is only passionate about artwork as a hobby. Haruki sure is thinking big banking his future on winning the grand prize of some film contest. And Miou is talented to make it as a professional painter, but she's not really serious about art school. It will be interesting to see where things go and what the significance of the 10cm is.

The color of love is that of fireworks.

It's summer, and while everybody is excited, not so much with Miou as she has a lot on her hands. She does go to the summer festival, and then learns about the person who saved her life. It turns out to be Haruki's older brother Chiaki, who died in doing so. Quite a shocking truth that was and it's no wonder why the truth had been hidden as that totally messed her up. It will be interesting to see what happens now that Miou is in love with the guy whose big brother is dead because he saved Miou from that terrible fate. The truth, it's ugly alright.

Just enjoy life while you still can.

Chiaki's background is explained as he was a frail guy in poor health. But despite that, he would live life to the fullest, and he inspired Haruki to take up his filming career. So with the news that the person who saved Miou is now dead, that caused her a lot of agony and isn't motivated to do anything. That has a domino effect as Haruki's dragging along with his latest filming production. Haruki managed to win first prize at the film competition that gets him an opportunity to study filming in Hollywood, but he doesn't feel all that excited about it. Things sure took a hit there and it will be interesting to see how they recover as now that 10cm gap has widened.

          Widening the distance between them.

The revelation that Chiaki was the one who saved Miou sure did open up a can of worms there. Miou can't draw, and Haruki is having second thoughts about studying filmmaking abroad in America as it turns out, Chiaki's dream is to become a film director, and Haruki is living out somebody else's dream. In the meantime, feelings of guilt have made MIou unable to draw. As much as she wants to get back into the swing of things, there are times where she doesn't feel like drawing. But leave it to Natsuki to be outspoken and let her know that nothing that happened with Chiaki was her fault. So now that Miou is on the upswing, now it's up to Haruki to do the same, and turning down a chance of a lifetime, well that's an extreme measure for him to be doing.

Dreams don't have to be different.

Haruki has been a mess, and things go over the edge when he gets serious about cancelling his study abroad claiming that he's pursuing Chiaki's dream and not his own, but Miou is there to let him know that it can be his dream, too. It took a good slap to the face for Haruki to finally realize the error of his thinking, and then there's that video of Chiaki in the hospital after he saved Miou after falling into the river. Miou sure did pull through there, and now that Haruki's dream is back on, the question is how to deal with this relationship when he gets ready to go to America.

              Episode 6 (Finale)

No matter how long it takes, she'll be waiting.

So now everybody has figured out their career plans with Haruki going to Hollywood to study filmmaking, while Miou is off to art school to become an art teacher at the high school. And seven years later, Haruki is back after winning the award for the best rookie film director with Miou being the first person Haruki wanted to tell directly about it. It took seven years, but now that 10cm gap has closed as those two are finally together again and never drifting apart romantically even though they are going to be on opposite sides of the Pacific. Pretty solid way to wrap things up.

Overall, this is a straightforward romantic drama that does a nice job in telling a story by getting straight to the point and never getting too overly complicated. Character development is pretty good al while the show accomplishes what it set out to do. That said, this show pretty much doesn't do anything that's over-the-top to stand out against several other slice of life shows, all while the story is pretty predictable and not exactly doing much outside the box. In all, it's a nice show, and certainly one where if you enjoyed the other stuff in the HoneyWorks series, then this one is another show worth watching.

              MAL Rating:
