In the decade since the world became aware of the existence of magic, the world has undergone massive upheaval. When his tranquil daily life is disrupted, he embarks on a unique adventure.

    Episode 1

    There's no killing this guy.

The beginning reminds us that this show is in the same timeline as the Negima series, first with that flashback of Evangeline's memories (now going under the name Yukihime), and then with a different version of the opening theme song from the first Negima anime series. But right off the bat, it differentiates itself with that violent scene when an assassin slices up Yukihime, and then Tota as there wasn't any such bloodshed in either of the Negima series. This is pretty much setup as all these years Tota thought that his parents died in an accident, but the truth is they were skewered and by their dying wishes Tota was made immortal by Yukihime. Interesting start this is off to, but the real test comes next week when Tota begins school.

So with that, I'll give it the usual three episode trial while adhering to the four episode rule. Seeing that there are only two Monday shows that I could possibly watch with the other two being sequels to shows I haven't watched that all it has to do is beat out the other Monday show to get in.

      Episode 2

Those who hunt immortals are immortal.

Here comes Kuromaru, who is from the same bloodline as Konoe and Setsuna, and he's a trap as while he appears to be a girl, he insists that he's a guy. Kuromaru is sent out to hunt Evangeline down, and he's just no match for her, or even Tota who he was ordered to fight in order to get to Evangeline. So as Tota's reward for winning, the two become best friends, and Kuromaru leaves a life he just didn't feel right in with his brother. That was pretty steamy there as Ken Akamatsu is known for having lots of fanservice in his works, and it's on full display here that begins with Tota meeting Kuromaru in the nude, while Yukihime is daring Tota to do something perverted. So now, it looks like the rest of the main cast will be introduced next time as Yukihime has called in the UQ Holders after Kuromaru talked about forming a team that Yukihime had all ready to go.

So with that, while this episode wasn't as good as the first, this show has locked its spot on my watchlist. While most of it had to do with the fact that it's the only Monday show of the season that I can watch with the other Monday show actually being a Friday show while the rest of the day consists of sequels to shows I haven't watched, I'm a fan of the Negima series, so I have all the reason to watch this.

        Episode 3

Feel the gravity of it all.

Tota and Kuromaru have their entrance exams where their objective is to land a hit on one of the pros, Karin for Tota and Gengoro for Kuromaru. While it sounds easy, these guys are pros who have been through a lot of training. Tota gets a new weapon in that sword that he can adjust the weight for as it talks. Kuromaru uses his immortality by striking Gengoro with his detached arm. Just when it looked like Tota was about to land his strike on Karin, Shinobu (who is based off of Shinobu Maebara of Ken Akamatu's other work) is in trouble and Tota decides to go all-out with his sword cranking up the sword to 50,000 (though just 10,000 would have done the job as it's still over 9000) to beat the beast. Though he didn't land a strike, Karin counts the damage to her clothes in the wide-area attack as his strike. Pretty entertaining episode that was meeting all the new characters while Tota finally has a kickass weapon that can do a lot of damage. With that, Tota has his first mission to exterminate the beasts in the grounds below.

Cue the manga fans being all salty over all the major changes between the anime version and manga version (i.e. Touta and Kuromaru's test; Shinobu already working for UQ Holder when she doesn't really start becoming an assistant until much later in the manga).

Might not have been a good idea to be a one cour(?) series while having key art that depicts something that doesn't happen in the manga until volume 11, as it would mean making a lot of cuts/changes just to get to the part depicted in the image.

            Episode 4

            Getting a foot up.

Tota and Kuromaru get their first mission to help Karin out in an impoverished village, and Tota shows everybody why he's just a beginner attacking those guys in suits not realizing that they are allies, while losing badly in those arm wrestling matches that made him reduced to being the cook, something that everybody is appreciative for. Tota then gets some training by one of the enemies not realizing that he is an enemy in the werewolf Kaito. As such, he's using his feet for everything in his training. And then, the enemies attack with the shadow user attacking Karin in the shower along with some Chamo censorship, all while Kaito seems to know how to deal with immortals by being faster than their regenerative powers, while the village is burnt to the ground. So much for that as this was supposed to be a mission for beginners, but it ends up being much more than originally thought.

              Episode 5

              Never underestimate an immortal.

Just when it looked like things were bad, Tota unleashes his hidden power, something he never knew he had as the Magia Erebea was inherited from Evangeline's blood. But of course, it also puts a huge strain on Tota as he doesn't want to resort to having to use it. In the end, Tota and Kaito settle the fight with an arm wrestling match, which is rather unexpected seeing that they were battling with flash steps, and Tota totally owned him. That goes to show that these guys have great potential, but they just don't realize it. And then Karin sure did go through a lot being tortured and stuff, but not only is she immortal, none of those things caused her to even bleed. Anyway, that pretty much went as expected seeing that it's not in Tota's nature to kill anybody, especially someone who taught him some new moves.

                Episode 6

                Feed your feminine side.

As it turns out, Kuromaru is genderless until age 16, when at that point it's up to him to decide whether he becomes a man or a woman. With Karin the only person who knows about this secret, Kuromaru decides to become a girl and go on a date with Tota in the capital. Just when things were going well, a couple of mercenaries attack and Kuromaru just isn't strong as a girl, which is quite a big problem seeing that with Tota around he couldn't just become a guy again. But in the end, his secret is still safe. That was pretty silly as Ken Akamatsu is known for romantic hijinks. Next episode is going to be about Kirie as she appears for the first time while those two were passing by.

                  Episode 7

She can just hit the reset button.

Here comes Kirie, and she has Subaru's power of resetting time when she dies with the only difference being that she can choose when to save the game. For her, that comes in handy as she has messed up so many times as there's a familiar foe on the loose in Fate, who first appeared during the Kyoto arc in the Negima series. Fate is out to capture Tota, but Kirie just keeps on getting herself killed to activate her save point power. She nearly lost it when Fate nearly turned her to stone that would have made her incapable of dying, but she died just in time to make it work. Kirie sure did make a solid impression there, and now comes the encounter with Fate where Kirie and company have a plan to put into action.

                    Episode 8

                    As Fate would have it...

The operation is on to capture Fate, and things didn't exactly go as planned as they didn't anticipate him having allies (one of them being Tsukuyomi, who is the same girl that was with him during the Kyoto trip in the Negima series). However, Kirie was able to reset bringing Fate to the underground dungeon where he is now up against Yukihime. So he bargains for his release and in return he will answer one question truthfully for each person. As it turns out, Negi is still alive, and that Tota is needed in order to save him and the world that faces a crisis 20 years later. However, Fate lied to Tota when he said that he killed his parents, and Negi comes in letting Tota know that he has something to tell him. Lots of intrigue here as everything Tota knew was wrong. But before that, it looks like a fanservicey episode is on deck.

                      Episode 9

The truth hidden in the steam.

Here comes Mizore, who is the granddaughter of Ayaka, and she's not too fond of Negi, but she has taken an unusual liking to Tota going far as to scrub his back in the hot springs and creating a huge ruckus in doing so. Lest not forget that Love Hina is set in a hot springs resort, so Ken Akamatsu needed to have something like this going on at some point. The last episode presented a lot of contradictions and stuff that just didn't add up, and Yukihime, in her Evangeline form, is spilling the beans about it. As it turns out, Fate was the one who caused the accident that killed Tota's parents, but they were not really his parents as he's a clone of Negi that was under their care. And then Negi was possessed by a witch he defeated 20 years ago and while he has been trying to keep her out, he's at his limit. While both Evangeline and Fate are doing what they can to save Negi, they don't agree on their methods. That was such a big twist there, and Mizore sure is someone who won't back down.

One question: does the anime include the idea that

Spoiler ->Negi is unable to have a kid?

                          Episode 10

Back to the place where it all started.

Tota takes a trip to Mahora Academy where Negi used to teach at for a fighting tournament that he can't fight in because it's full, and there he meets several people from the Negi's class in Ayaka, Chachamaru, the principal Mana, and the ghost Sayo as the past comes to light. Then Tota is entered into the tournament when one of the contestants gets injured, and he squares off against Cutlass, who lets Tota know he's a defective clone. And then what started off as routine match ends up turning into something much bigger when Negi, possessed by the witch, arrives and brings Nodoka and Yue with him to let Tota know what he's dealing with. Things sure escalated in a big way as the future is at stake. Anyway, that really was something seeing a number of Negi's students coming back

                            Episode 11

He has the power to change the world.

Negi's sneeze causes a massive wardrobe malfunction, and then Tota is thrown into Yukihime's memories where he learns the truth about her love life. Then the witch Ialda appears to carry out her destruction, but in to save the day is Asuna, who is Tota's grandmother, but hasn't aged as her body had been encased all these years. That was pretty cool to see Asuna doing what she had been doing best in the original series there. So it's back to the real world where everybody does their job in buying some time for Tota to unleash his power. I felt that all of it there was rushed, but with only two more episodes left that this arc needs to be wrapped up.

Actually, based on the information about the UQ Holder BD-set that's coming out next month, next week's episode is the last one of the season (if it does get another one).
