    Episode 14

    The glass is half-full.

Now that Mahmut has regained his Pasha title, he will now use his authority to make a stand against the Empire, and his first stop is Argyros. Things don't go well as Rohmonov is not exactly willing to get political as a merchant, but just when it looked like Mahmut was going to come away emptyhanded, in comes Niki, who just inherited her father's caravan. She's having it quite tough, but thanks to Mahmut she's able to get her business on her feet. To do that, they see someone from Chinili while disguised as woman, and that guy buys up a lot of Venetian glass. As it turns out, it was meant to get Venice to turn against the empire as that transaction meant a lot of wheat would be required to cushion the glass, as opposed to becoming provisions for the empire. That was some great thinking by Mahmut as he realized that helping out Niki was a great opportunity to gain a valuable ally.

      Episode 15

Don't get left out in the cold.

Next destination for Mahmut is the frozen tundra of Urado, and this place is completely sheltered from the outside world. Mahmut attempts to get their allegiance, and this place is just dead. However, Mahmut and company find the key to turning things around in this country in the form of fossilized bird poop on the beach, which is high quality fertilizer. The beaches have a lot of them, and thanks to Abiriga knowing what they are that Mahmut was able to get Urado's allegiance, all while the Imperial envoy is headed for execution seeing that this country is pretty secretive about what they do. Once again, Mahmut is resourceful as ever, and he found the answer that will turn this country's fortunes around, something that the Empire could never hope to offer as all they can do is protect them. Of course, there's just no settling when there's an opportunity for even greater things.

        Episode 16

        War is upon us.

Now that Urado has sided with the Turks, the Empire is making their move. While the Turks alliance has put themselves in a great position, L'isolani is causing quite a lot of trouble by renegading on the pact to side with the Empire. Not to mention, Lucio and Zigmund aren't exactly seeing eye-to-eye. And now, Louis is laying waste as the Empire is on the attack. That was just setup there, but nevertheless it accomplishes what it needs to do.

          Episode 17

          Neither friend nor foe.

The Empire has made their move, and in the meantime Mahmut is in Fiore as they try and get them to join forces. Things were looking quite promising as Suleyman and Caterina have some romantic relationship going on. But in the end, it didn't work out as Caterina decides to form a third party that sides with neither the Empire nor the Turks, this coming as Suleyman learns that Scoglio is now under imperial possession from someone who got the message out moments before he was killed. That was a tough break there seeing that this place is not exactly on best terms with the Turks. They tried, but they realized that it wasn't going to be easy like the other places they visited. It will be interesting to see what comes next as they are going to need all the help they can get, and this decision doesn't exactly help things.

            Episode 18

            Strength in numbers.

Just when it looked like the Turks were rebuffed, in comes the news that Scoglio has fallen, and the spy's heroic sacrifice was the difference as that got Caterina to join the Turks realizing that their military strength just can't compete with the Empire's. So now that Florence is on board, the next objective is to form an alliance with Tauro, and to do that Mahmut engages in a mock battle, and those Spaniards just were no match. And then he buys up quite a large band of mercenaries to help their cause. Pretty much, this is more buildup as the Turks are going to need all the help they can get as the Empire is laying waste and gaining power with each place they conquer, with the latest being Campana with only a little boy managing to escape the destruction alive. One last place remains before the forces meet on the battlefield as Cielo is the only place that hasn't formed an alliance with anybody. The next episode should be the last before the fighting begins.

              Episode 19

              Trapped in the cage.

There is just one last place that hasn't sided with anyone in Chielo, and with that the war is in full force. Chielo is a agricultural gold mine, which explains why their welfare system thrives in a place where it would otherwise be a bad idea. Vasco has a secret weapon that Halil refuses to use, but Vasco is still going to build it. So with that, the two forces finally meet each other on the battlefield, and while this trap set up to burn the Imperial army was sound, it was quite a risky one as if anybody picks up on the plan, that means certain doom. The imperials realized that they were being lured into a trap, and now the Turks are in big trouble after all that.

                Episode 20

                Next man up.

Halil was totally outsmarted there as thanks to Lily, Pino and company could not only ambush Halil's unit, but take away their terrain advantage with a nasty surprise. The Turks thought they had a two day advantage, but the Imperials took the river down on their disassembled ballistas to show up out of nowhere, and then put together the ballistas to nullify the terrain advantage. And then they lead Halil to a trap where only death awaits for him. That was quite a bitter pill to swallow seeing that the Imperials have some really great commanders and they are going to be tough to beat as they just pulled out from their bag of tricks there. Zaganos sure did rally the troops there at the end, and now Mahmut will now have to step up seeing that this is a country that just wanted peace, but that slowly changed over the past 13 years as Zaganos knew that the Empire was going to invade someday, and now the moment of truth has arrived.

                  Episode 21

                  The alliance strikes back.

Things have gotten quite chaotic there, and the Turks are in a dire situation with Halil's head being taken as a trophy, all while supplies are running thin and the Venetians are too busy trying to deal with a blockade to help out. But just leave it to Mahmut to learn from Halil's mistakes, and this time they have the advantage against Pino and the imperial army. They realize just how important supplies are, and their next move is to lure the army where a nasty surprise awaits them. Mahmut has put the Turks in a position to turn the table, and now they will have to execute the plan.

                    Episode 22

                    Right back at 'ya.

That was sweet retribution for Mahmut and company using their own strategies against them, and that quickly cut down their army to size. Pino sure didn't see that coming. And in a last ditch effort, Pino is now going after Espada. Pretty much, Mahmut knew exactly what they were up against and did a detailed job in ensuring that everything that brought down Halil's troop doesn't happen again.

                      Episode 23

                      United they stand.

And just like that, Pino and Lilly go down as they were totally outmatched as Espada's size advantage was the difference. It was so bad that even Frentzen decided that they were beyond salvageable. While that's happening, there's a lot of discord in Chielo, and Carvajal accepted his execution thinking about the long-term future of the citizens before anything, and that the torch would be passed to Cassandra, who will gladly work with the alliance. Carvajal sure did take one for the team there as it was quite obvious what needed to happen. One more episode left, and it looks like it's going to end with something bigger looming on the horizon. That was pretty rushed, and I'm not expecting much closure as this series comes to an end.

                        Episode 24

Love the people, hate the war.

And so it ends with a transition from the first battle to the next as Mahmut has his work cut out for him, especially if he wants Turkey to be a benevolent place unlike the Empire. Pretty much, Mahmut learned from the tragedy that war is what he hated and not the Empire as the citizens had nothing to do with it, and as such he puts that to use by transforming Cielo, which is the first territory claimed by the Turks, into a place where the citizens are treated like people and not war resources. So with that, the series ends with the next battle with Zaganos leading the charge in Halil's place. It ended the way it needed to end, and it did a pretty good job at that.

Overall, this show was a mixed bag as some parts of the manga were well-adapted while other parts, not so much. The parts from when Mahmut is stripped of his Pasha title up through the end of the Civil War were nicely adapted and they were the highlights of this show, but the other parts, especially the first battles of the war with the Empire, were rushed. There were plenty of good things about this show while others not so good. It has a strong MC, great animation, a story concept full of intrigue, and excellent drama that made this worth watching. However, the biggest problems are the pacing and the way the show handles the large cast as characters were being introduced too fast to keep up with them while a number of characters that are supposed to be relevant like Kiros and Abiriga were seemingly forgotten. And on top of that, the show got way too comprehensive to be easily understood. That said, I was quite into this show, but it's not for everybody.
